Amazon has an All-Clad 12-Quart Stainless Multi Cooker with Steamer Basket on their Friday sale. It's regularly $99 and they have it on the Friday sale for $59. This looks like a pretty nice deal. I checked Williams-Sonoma to be sure this is in line with their pricing, and they have the exact item for $99.

Here's my question. Does anyone have this multi-cooker? How does the 12-quart multi-cooker differ from the 12-quart stockpot???? Both descriptions say they're made of 18/10 stainless steel and both say they have the aluminum disk in the bottom for even heating. The pictures look identical. Any ideas why the 12-quart stockpot is listed at $310?!?!?

I think this multi-cooker could be invited to come live at my house before the day is done. :D I need to replace the CHEAP multi-cooker that I've been using for making jam for years. This looks like something I shouldn't resist.

Edited to say I just called William-Sonoma. The stockpot has the aluminum core all the way up the sides of the pot. The multi-cooker doesn't. The salesperson said the multi-cooker would probably be excellent for making jam. She thought that soups/stocks that needed to be cooked for a long time would probably be better in the stockpot.

My impression is that the multi-cooker is a low-end All Clad piece. I looked at one at Macy's and didn't think it stood up to the other lines. It is made overseas and is a lot less expensive than other All Clad lines. I think All-Clad is trying to expand their audience by making "entry-level" pieces. I bet the pot would be a real workhorse and it sounds like a good deal.

Do you have this and do you love it? I found one yesterday at Williams-Sonoma outlet for $50 and got it, now wondering if I'll ever really use it or was just seduced by the good deal. It seems like it would be useful, but took 1/2 hour to boil water when full and is quite heavy. For just my husband and I, doubtful I'd ever use to boil pasta, corn or even lobsters often enough to justify. But...maybe for company? or have you found it to be useful and are glad you have this pot? Thanks!
