Last night we hosted three very nice young men who are biking across the country. Two years ago, I started a similar trip that was cut short for various reasons. Anyway, I had posted my name on a Warm Showers list--a weblist of hospitable homes across the country who make themselves available to bike tourists for shelter, shower, etc.

I had completely forgotten about this list, so when i got a phone call yesterday from a complete stranger asking if he and his friends could camp in our backyard, I was a little surprised...especially since I'm only in town vising my family for the weekend, and no one really knows I'm here!

These poor guys had been riding for six days, and yesterday poured down rain on them all day, and they just wanted a floor or a yard to sleep in. So once we met them and determined that they were sincere, we offered them our shower, washing machine, and the guest bedroom. They were very appreciative!

Anyway, I just wanted to get their trip up on the BB so any other interested souls with a backyard or a basement floor to share might contact them as they make their way across the country. They're headed to Niagara Falls tonight (80 miles!), and I think they have a place to camp there, but you can follow their progress at their website:

They periodically get to check their email and update the website.

So think good biking thoughts as they head across the US!

Rebecca - how cool! If they were driving through MI.... And, they mentioned your house on the website!

Woohoo! I'm famous!

For anyone who's still interested, check out today's update on the biking website. My parents and I are mentioned. Too cool.
