Anyone, have or seen any cute ideas for a baby shower cake? I have been tasked with making a cake for my cousin's shower on Sunday and I'd like to do something cute and original (but of course not too hard!)
She does not know what she is having. I would really appreciate any help you guys can give me.
Thanks,
Kristi
Kristi,
Although I've never had to make the cake, I've been to a lot of showers (huge family) and seen some cute ideas. (That said, I'm not much of a baker, so I have no real concept of how hard any of these would be.) How many people will be attending the shower? I guess that will also determine how creative you want to get. (I've been to showers with 5 or 6 people and ones with 50!) Crowd favorites have been umbrella-shaped cakes (Showers of Happiness for Mom and Baby) and cradle-shaped ones. I'll see if I can remember some more. Good luck!

how about just a plain sheet cake (13 x 9) and add baby booties to it. You can make the booties by stacking to marshmallows one on top of the other and a third in front for the toe portion of the bootie. Then just star tip the whole thing in pink or blue. you can do this on a plate then transfer it to the cake, so if you make a mistake you can try again.
Good Luck Ann

If it is a smaller shower, I had one that was creative. A baby buggy.
Use an egg cake pan. Bake both sides of the egg. When cool, cut one side in half and invert it on the flat side of the other. Now you have a buggy shape. Icing the egg and use oreos for wheels. Decorate with little plastic cake accessories, found at local cake/candy shop.

Thanks for the ideas. It's about 30 people--and I didn't realize that it probably will make a difference as to the type of cake I can make.
Keep the ideas coming!

I don't remember where I saw this idea, but I liked it. It was a cake in the shape of 4 baby blocks iced to spell out "BABY." Really cute pastel icing, and it didn't look too tough to make. Just layer cakes cut and arranged into 4 big cubes.
Good luck!

I once had a shower for a friend and on top of a sheet cake I had little footprints(about 3 " long) cut from another sheet layer. I made the template out of cardboard and used a paring knife to cut out the feet. Then iced them like petits fours using a glaze instead of regular icing and then piped royal icing around the top edge. The feet were pink and blue since we didn't know before hand the sex of the baby.

how about a white layer cake with one PINK layer and one BLUE layer? you can just put a regular pacifier on top for decoration.
