Am I the first to post? I didn't see another thread on it. My apologies if I missed it.

I received a great box from RobinC from Oregon on Sat. We decided to do cookbooks and I have to say that I think I'm getting the better end of the deal on this one!:D And being the foodie she is she couldn't stop at just a book. (I won't beable to either I'm sure.:o )

My box contained the cookbook Wildwood - Cooking from the Source in the Pacific Northwest It looks like a great book. Lots of beautiful pics and recipes. Can't wait to settle in with it one night to look it over in more depth!

Marionberry syrup. This looks yummy, can't wait to try it.

Chocolate with great wrappers with scenes of Oregon on them.

2 tins of hazelnuts...YUMMY! We already opened one. These are so fresh and crunchy, I'm spoiled now!

A cool magnet from Oregon a great letter...boy I hope I didn't forget anything.

Thanks Robin I love it. And promise to get your box in the mail soon!

Thanks Lara for organizing this swap.

So glad to hear you liked your gift.

I couldn't possibly send just a book. If you are going to do some NW cooking, you have to have hazelnuts. If you learn anything about food in the NW, then you have to try marionberries. :)

I love the Pacific NW and enjoy sharing my passion. :)

I received my swap package yesterday from Terri (TLee4) and it is absolutely wonderful! Terri noted that we do not have a Trader Joe's in South Carolina and sent a box of goodies:

Tacconi Pasta & Vodka Marinara - looks wonderful and DH was quick to say he can't wait to try.

Toasted Coconut Cashews - these look sinful:)

Tangerine Brown Sugar Scrub - I can't wait to try this!

Golden Berry Blend - Terri mentioned that these would be good in muffins but they look like they would be great from the package.

And a wonderful note & photos. Thanks Terri, you made my day!

Thanks also to Lara for organizing.

Hi Kim, I have purchased 3/4 of the things that I am getting for you. The toughest part is wrapping it up and getting it out, which I hope to do soon. No, you're not late. ;)

ok...I'm almost finished, but now I'm scared :o :D I thought the limit was around $15 - $20? It sounds like everyone is going way beyond that ...I'm worried that my swap buddy is going to be disappointed :(

JeAnne, I wouldn't worry. Good things come in small packages.

I figure that I want to spend about $20 US on what goes in the box, and then mailing costs. But I usually stick in something that I've made myself (so that doesn't count :D ).

But really, I just get excited about the idea of getting a present when it's not my birthday :) I'm also jazzed about creating a box that I'd like to get...I seem to be heavy on the chocolate this time...I hope Debie doesn't mind

Cheers,
Sarah

NJ is famous for produce. How do I wrap that up? :D

Hey, you're making the rest of us look bad. Stop mailing those packages! I'm doing a cook book swap, too. I have my book, now I just need some "goodies". I have one thing. I'm working on the rest. Maybe some sand from the Jersey Shore?

I don't think you have anything to worry about. You are a thoughtful person and I am sure that whatever you send to your swap buddy will be great. :)

I can just see myself sitting on my deck, overlooking the lake  (Huron, hardly saltwater, but it's the same feeling) and enjoying a wonderful meal from it - breakfast, a sunset supper, or a buffet of little somethings.

Aw shucks Gail,
I'm so glad you liked the package(I did not even know the salsa was low sodium...it's the only kind they make...it's not a complete grocery store so they only make one of most things!) I had a great time making up the box! This was such a neat thing to do! I hope you enjoy the cookbook too!

That, I haven't tried, but I had heard good things. Kim will have to let me know how it is. Maybe that will be my "treat" next time I go. Less dangerous than the cashews...!

I just opened my wonderful swap package from Tyra (tbb113). She's in the Oakland/SF area of California. Tyra packed some wonderful goodies in the package including:

* A bottle of wine from Gilroy, CA, the garlic capitol of the world". It's by Chateau de Garlic and has a description on the label that says "grape wine flavored with fresh garlic." This is definitely going to be an interesting bottle of wine!!! :D
* A cookbook called Savoring San Francisco, Recipes from the City's Neighborhood Restaurants. This looks so wonderful!!! (Yeah! I have a new "novel" to read!)
* A jar of Pacific Olallieberry Jam. It's supposed to taste like blackberries! I love the name of these berries!!
* A huge hunk of dark Ghirardelli chocolate! :D :D :D Can we all say 'happy girl'? :D

Thanks so much to Tyra for an awesome swap package. And big thanks to Lara for organizing this swap!

Melanie:

Glad you like everything. By the way the winery is called Rappazini, the wine itself is Chateau de Garlic. They also make "normal" wine including a wonderful white with apricots and an almond sparkling wine.

Whoo hooo! I got the loveliest package in the mail from HUNGRY! this week! She included a cookbook from Virginia with a number of yummy sounding things - I especially can't wait to try the peach ice cream! Also, some pepper jelly, Senate bean soup, blackening seasoning from a local restaurant, and a really great smelling soap.

What a nice introduction to Virginia and the North Atlantic! Thanks again to my great swap partner and to Lara!

I got my swap package from Leigh (lhall) and what a great thing this was. She sent me brochures from the historic places in and around Marietta, GA (is she trying to get me down there?).... so I feel like when I next vacation down that way, I'll definitely have some places to see!

Next was a jar of peach preserves, which I can't wait to try! DH is allergic to peaches and nectarines, so these are all for me!

And finally a book, Georgia's Historic Restaurants and their recipes.... I am so inspired, but hardly know what to make first. I am thinking about an all southern menu sometime soon! I just have to share this recipe, though, because this most likely will be the first one I'll try:

Anthony's Plantation Restaurant's Soused Salmon

Anthony's in located in Atlanta in an old 1797 plantation house. This restaurant has been named one of the top ten continental restaurants in the U.S. every year since 1993 by the Amer. Academy of Restaurant Sciences...

rock salt
3 lb. fresh salmon fillet, skin on
1 fennel bulb, chopped fine
1 leek, chopped fine
12 white peppercorns, crushed
2 bay leaves, crushed
5 branches fresh thyme, chopped coarse
juice of 10 fresh limes
1/2 c. red wine vinegar

Lay rock salt in a pan large enough to hold salmon; use enough salt to cover bottom of pan completely. Lay salmon skin side down on the salt. Mix remaining ingredients together and let stand 15 minutes. Drain the liquid and set it aside. Carefully place leek mixture on salmon. Pour 1/5 of rserved liquid over leek mixture, cover, and place in the refrigerator. Let stand 4 hours, then add more liquid, repeating the procedure until allthe liquid has been used. Cover pan tightly and do not disturb for 24 to 36 hours. Remove salmon, discard everything else, slice paper-thin, and serve. Serves 6 or more.

A box of sunshine sitting on my front porch!!!

Oh THANK YOU Gail(GabbyH)! We have had nothing but cloudy skies, rain, and humidity here lately so this was a big bright spot in my day today. Everything was so wonderful. My box had a nice canvas "Florida" bag which will come in handy this summer(if we ever manage to get beach weather here:mad: ), some beautiful hand towels/napkins, lime cookies, orange honey(my kids love honey), an orange coconut marinade/dressing, and a bottle of Floribbean Key Lime juice(can't wait to use this!!!:D ) along with a "Miami" cookbook. THANK YOU!

I can't wait to sit down with my new book, and if the rain breaks for the weekend, I think we will try out DH's new Father's Day toy-a new gas grill(A BIG one) and use some of that marinade...hum...thinking..??..kabobs(?chicken) in the marinade...???perhaps with onion, red pepper, and pineapple...I am salivating already!!

Many Thanks!

Yipee! I got my swap box from Molli today and I wanted to share it with you. I can't wait to browse through the Detroit's Eastern Market shopping nad cooking guide. The photos make me want to get on the plane and go shopping there! I reminds me of the market in the North End of Boston but Detroit's seems to be much bigger and better. If I ever get to Michigan I need to visit this market. As you can see Riva was excited and noisy to see what was inside. The bread is delish.....had to have a slice to taste. I love Michigan dried cherries and was hoping to receive some because the package that SandyM sent me has been used. ;) Chocolate sauce will be saved until I make a batch of vanilla ice cream and the candy bar will be tasted tonight while reading the guide. Thank you so much Molli! ;) Your package should be ready by the weekend and ship out beginning of the week.

Oh no! Don't feel bad at all! It's quite alright. DH has lots of food allergies and we've just worked around them. I eat shellfish when we go out, but we NEVER NEVER EVER go to a Red Lobster or restaurants that serve mainly shellfish - his food always seems to get contaminated with shellfish and his tongue begins to swell.

The peach/nectarine/apricot allergy produces a different, non-life threatening reaction that causes him to have to stay near a bathroom. ;) He can have some if he wants to pay the price hee hee.

That book is uniquely interesting and I'm enjoying reading about the various restaurants and the history... as well as the recipes. I'm sticky tabbing the recipes with post-it notes as I read through it.

I was honored with 2 shipments from my swap partner(Gracie, ie Loren). What fun to have 2 boxes with presents in the summertime! I received a grand total of 4 cookbooks....Coastal New England Winterfare and Holiday Cookbook, Cooks by the Yard, Boston Globe's Cookbook, and the Yankee Magazine Country Inn Breakfast Cookbook. Wow! Also included in a goody package were Harvard pencils and keything, maple syrup (yum!), a really cute stuffed lobster and a couple of lobster soaps...which is really good since I have one bathroom with a beach/seashell theme. Thanks so much Loren! This was really fun. I hope my package to her and live up to what she has sent me.

This was way more fun than I would have imagined (this is my first swap). I had fun "meeting" another person on the board. My partner was akairo (Tamara).

I loved exchanging notes with her, and it made it more personal when I got to choose fun things to send!

I got the package today- I am home sick from work, and feeling a little sorry for myself! So, when the doorbell rang, I was so excited to see my package!

Tamara sent:

"The Bear Flag: Sierra French Roast Coffee". Perfect for us, as we try to save money and make our coffee at home. Also, strawberry blueberry jam. How good does THAT sound? And, Mr. Micah's Grubbin BBQ sauce. We are having a BBQ this weekend, so maybe we will use it (or maybe we'll give them the local stuff and save the goods for us!) And, Milda's Mustard. I love recipes with a little kick, so that will get great use. And, "Seasoned with Love"- a cookbook from her neighbor's church. By far, that is my very favorite type of cookbook. How fun to get people's favorite recipes! AND- she included a beautiful necklace. I love jewelry even more than cooking.

Tamara also included a note, and pictures of her four adorable children including the newest one- who was born at the end of March.

Thank you so much. I really, really enjoyed the whole swap. I hope you enjoy my package as much.

(My DH sent my package, and teased me because we paid so much in postage- I had to laugh when I saw that you spent as much!)

Ditto what mst said! I had a great time and this was my first swap also.

I was partners with Judy (boys03) from North Carolina. She sent me a beautiful book from the Magnolia Grill, a restaurant in Durham. It's owned by a husband-wife team where the wife is the baker and the husband is the chef. Beautiful pictures and nice information/background about each recipe. This is a cookbook to read!

She also sent me some country ham, a Duke bookmark (since I sent her the Harvard stuff!) and a jar of molasses made from molasses cane, which she said tasted different than the stuff I buy in the store.

I can't wait to get into the book and make some gingerbread from my molasses!

Thanks Judy!

I came home on Friday to my package from Muriel. What a great way to start the weekend. I also got a good chuckle as I opened the package cause it was mailed in a Penzey's box.

I got some dried blueberries (YUM!), Cherry Cabernet Preserves (YUM! YUM!) and all mine. :D I made homemade biscuits for breakfast yesterday so I could have an excuse to eat some preserves. some Nutmeg Dough for the kids. You mix the dough with applesauce and cut out shapes for decorations. This is so cool and will make great yummy smelling ornaments for our Christmas tree. (I long to have the tree decorated in all handmade ornaments like I had growing up). Oh, and a Michigan Cookbook and other things. The cookbook has some yummy looking recipes and some neat stories. But, I don't think I'll be making the Roast Bear Paws  I'll probably do the pickled beets first as DH loves those.

Thanks Muriel!!

I just got a terrific box of treats from Sami in Maryland. We agreed to do a general swap since we both have more cookbooks than we can handle right now:rolleyes:

She sent:

A box of Berger cookies, a local cookie that looks like a little cake dipped in chocolate. Can't wait to taste these!

A big bag of sliced almonds that are processed in her area. Perfect for toasting and tossing on salads or coffeecakes or muffins or cookies or...

A Ghirardelli chocolate.

A beautiful blank journal with a drawing of Tuscany on the front. She didn't know it, but DH and I are going to Tuscany (Florence) and Rome this fall and I am going to use this as my travel journal :)

A map of her region that shows her neighborhood, where the streets all have names from The Hobbit. I told her DH was a Tolkien fan.

A letter and a picture--Sami is lovely and has such a friendly smile.

Generous and creative--thanks Sami.

This was my third swap and my other partners were Robyncz and islandgirl (Karen), both of whom also sent fabulous packages.

Not only was my CL in my mailbox when I got home, I had a package from SueK. It was a red letter day!

Sue sent me a large Hershey's candy bar that had the Penn State 2003 Football schedule printed on the wrapper. I'll have a little taste of it tomorrow after my WI at WW. She also sent some lion shaped (Penn State Mascot) pasta that is way cute. There's a jar of Herlocher's Penn State dipping mustard---YUM! I can't wait to try this with some pretzels. Postcards were included and a cookbook called Seasons of Central Pennsylvania. Everything is wonderful! I can't wait to pick out some recipes to try.

Thanks so much for all the goodies, SueK.

A bottle of Maine Maple Champagne Mustard
A tube of Wild Maine lip balm (how did she know I LOVE peppermit lip balm????)

Wild rice.....a favorite of mine. Jessica also put in her favorite CL Wild Rice recipe which I can't wait to make.

Candy (a nut roll and nut goodie) made locally in a factory near her. I ate the nut goodie(milk chocolate nut clusters) for dinner and it was delicious. I will be good for a day before i eat the nut roll.
There was also chocolates made in Minneapolis that look yummy.

Two Penzey spices! Bangkok blend, which I used on vegetables tonight
and Vietnamese cinnamon.

Aveda peppermint shampoo because Aveda was founded there.

Two postcards of St Paul.

I am a happy camper. This is my second swap and it is such fun.

I opened my box from MST and screamed with delight....Salt water taffy was the packing material!!!!I love the stuff, but hate what we get out here. Do I have to share?:D Maybe just one.;)

Once I finished eating some taffy I move on and discovered Fluff. I had no idea what to do with it until I read the label. Of course then I couldn't move on until I had made a Fluffernutter sandwich. (For those that don't know it is marshmallow fluff and peanut butter between bread. Yum Yum!!! I gave everyone a bite and realized that I am going to have to find an outlet to buy more. I do believe that I am addicted.

As I moved on I discovered more delightful things... Apple butter, creamed honey (can't wait to try this) and one of my favorite gifts maple syrup.

This has been a great swap.

:D I got my swap package from Beth (fci5767) yesterday. She sent me some wonderful stuff from North Carolina! I received:

A cookbook called "You're Invited" from The Junior League of Raleigh, North Carolina - lots of recipes I'm excited about trying. Sunday Morning Cinnamon Orange Biscuits, Old North State Barbequed Chicken, Tar Heel Cupcakes....just a few of the recipes that caught my eye as I was looking through the book.

Cheese Straws - Cheesy snacks are a favorite of mine. I'll be digging into these soon :)

Pigman's Famous Outer Banks Bar-B-Que sauce - I've never tried North Carolina style BBQ sauce & I'm looking forward to following the directions on the bottle for authentic Eastern Carolina BBQ. mmmmmm
getting hungry thinking about it.

A chocolate Tar Heel - There are several versions of how North Carolina became known as the Tar Heel State & the package on the chocolate tar heel reveals them. Plus, its chocolate.

Notecards and a postcard from the North Carolina Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill, NC They are beautiful! I would like to go to North Carolina some day & visiting the botanical garden is on my list.

Thanks Beth! Thanks LaraW for organizing this swap - it was fun!

Thank you MKSquared (Mary Kate)!!

I received an absolutely wonderful cookbook called "Reinventing the Midwest Table." (did I get that right? I don't have it here with me at work) I went through the first two chapters last night and announced to DF that we had some good breakfasts to look forward to this weekend. It looks great!

I also received a soy candle, "pearnilla" flavor. It smells great and I love that it will burn clean.

And last, but certainly not least, an Ohio State pen! My alma matter doesn't have nearly the school spirit of Ohio State, so I will use this with pride and no pangs of guilt.

Everything was all wrapped up like it was Christmas. Thank you so much, Mary Kate!!

I really have such a hard time believing that Fluff is regional. Sorry that I did not include directions on how to use it, I just can't get over that some people DON'T have peanut butter and fluff sandwichs!

Glad to hear that you enjoyed everything...I have been too excited with my gifts to actually use them!

Tamara:

Fluff is the same thing as Marshmallow Creme, you should be able to find it in the baking aisle of most grocery stores (I know Safeway carries it)

I got my package from Robin (aka rmg_CA) last week, but I did not get to open it until about yesterday. Last week was finals week for me at Ohio State, and it totally kicked my butt with tests and essays that were due. My box was more than I could have ever expected and I feel like such a heel for mailing mine so late. Robin should have hers by Thursday, I'm tracking that darn thing!

I got:

Dear S.O.S book- it is a cookbook from the Los Angelas Times, the most-read newspaper. It has recipes from local resturants, how perfect is that. There are more than a few things that I know I am going to try.

Southern California Guide book- Robin included this because I expressed high interest in someday visiting that area. It is making my mouth water and making me very jealous of all the areas around her!

Orange Chipotle Sauce from Tom's Farms- This is from a local farmers market in Southern Cali. I can not wait to try it this weekend when we grill out.

California Hot Sauce- um, can you say YUMMMM!!!! It is great.

Santa Rosa Plum Jelly- I am going to have this tommorow for breakfast with some toast or bagels. I tasted it strait up out of the jar and it is Mighty Fine!

Coconut Cashew Brittle- Unfortunately this undercame a bit of an accident and I did not get to try it. THe accident's name being my mother. As soon as I took this out, she goes, my favorite nut! and you know I love cocounut. I figured she would take a piece and leave me the rest. Not the case. I came home from work and it was all gone.

Chocolate LIcorice- This was so good, was good because I finished it! Thank god it had no anise, licorice flavor, just yummy chocolate, oh it was so good. I hate black licorice, but I loved this!

Three postcards that again made me very jealous!

THanks again Robin, you were an awesome swap partner!

Collectingcoke and greysangel... be patient with me. It's a busy time at work but I hope to get your goodies out to you both this weekend.

I got a wonderful package from Kismet yesterday! It included TWO cookbooks- The Gunflint Lodge Cookbook and the Pure and Simple Cookbook (from a local gourmet grocery store). I can't wait to try the rack of pork in the Pure and Simple book. She also sent a Minnesota travel guide, some postcards, wild chokecherry jelly (I can't wait to try this!), a nut roll and a nut goodie (local candy), maple syrup (this won't last through the weekend!), and some wild rice. I can't wait to try it all! Thanks so much Kismet! And thanks Laura for setting this up. I had just come home from taking a final exam after a very long day of work and it was so nice to have goodies on my doorstep!

My package from Sarah arrived yesterday and I was so thrilled to see CHOCOLATE!! My oldest son and I ate the box of truffles before I got out the rest of the things from the box!!

I also received several brochures on Toronto (in anticipation of my trip there next week); an issue of Canadian Living- very cool! A Muffinmen Cookbook - all about muffins! Several candy bars that I'm unable to get here in the States, and a tatted angel that she made herself, along with a nice, long, newsy letter telling me about herself and her life in Canada.

Great swap!!!

I'm glad you liked it Debie. I love putting those boxes together, and getting one in return :D

I'm so excited to try everything I got!! Debie sent me 3 bottles of her homemade jam (raspberry, peach marmalade, and strawberry banana), a mug and chocolate spoon from the Rocky Mountain chocolate factory, 3 different dip mixes from a local farm, a bottle of Michigan cherry juice concentrate, and some smoked pecans (yum! But this is the only thing I've tried so far). There was also a note, some postcards and pictures of her family.

This has been so much fun! Thanks Lara!

WOW!!! What a treat I received yesterday from our superlative swap organizer, Lara. I arrived home to a notice from UPS that a package was in the office, and I couldn’t even think what it could be – that’s how crazy the week has been. There it was, addressed to me, and in a box clearly marked “Penzey’s.” What could it be, who could have sent it, did my mother think my spices needed some help last time she visited??? (“motherhood,” the gift that keeps on guilting ;) )

But I was completely surprised when I unwrapped the box and found my Swap Sister had done herself proud, and pleased me to death. By the time I finished unwrapping all the goodies inside, I felt like a kid at Christmas with a stocking full of wonderful things. Also felt like making a trip to the Rockies to continue expanding my knowledge of Colorado!!!!

In layer after layer, I received a packet of Columbine flower seeds (the state flower); a box of Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea (their best-selling flavor, made in Boulder); a jar of apple butter that, are you ready for this, LARA MADE HERSELF with her supper club group; a copy of Sunset magazine, dedicated to the western US; a container of “western slope” honey; a bottle of Fat Tire beer from a Fort Collins microbrewery; and a bottle of red wine made at a local vineyard.

It really was a treat. I’ve been having lots of fun sampling, and thoroughly enjoyed learning about our new mom-to-be.

Thank you, Lara. Thank you very much. I am a very happy Virginian (the wine is wonderful), and hope a little bit of my new home state reaches you in a day or so. :D

I have had so much fun picking out things for my swap partner (Judy boys03), receiving a wonderful package from her and reading this thread to find out what everyone else got! I check this thread every day! Everyone has been so creative.

Can we do this again? Pretty please? Real soon? :D Thank you so much Lara for putting all of us together. I'm sure that was a lot of work.

On my front doorstep this afternoon was the very box I sent Janet just a week ago! ;) This time, my name was on it, and the gifts were for me! Yay! Janet sent me a great cookbook from Pike Place Market. I've already gone though about half of it, and there are some incredible recipes I want to try. (Coffeecake from SBC, anyone?) I also received (and tried!) Raspberry Tea Cookies which are as good as Janet promised. Those are yummy! And the best part, to go along with today's mid-60's weather? Coffee from Seattle's Best Coffee. :) I usually brew Starbuck's, but I've always been really curious about the SBC stuff. What a great way to try it. :)

Yesterday I got home after a VERY long day at work to find a package on my front porch! I was so excited, because I just KNEW it was my swap package from my swap partner, lakelady1. And sure enough, it was!

DH got home the same time I did and said "did you order something from Virginia?" I said that it was my swap package.

So before I even started dinner or looked at the rest of the mail, I had to open this box. Inside was a treasure!

There was a package of Southampton Smoked Bacon, about 4 different varieties of peanuts: peanut brittle, peanut squares, buttercrunch peanuts and regular salted peanuts. Let me tell you that DH just about devoured that peanut brittle. He said it was a treat to have it at some other time than Christmas. She must have known that peanuts and peanut products have been a favorite of mine since getting pregnant!

Also in there were 2 jars - Peach Preserves and Apple Butter (how funny is it that we sent each other apple butter!). I had some of the peach preserves on my English muffin this morning for breakfast.

In the last swap, Mamasue was my partner and she sent me a bag to make Boston Baked Beans. Well, part of that recipe calls for using salt pork with the rind still on it, and the bacon that lakelady1 sent to me is the kind with the rind still on it, so I will be able to use 2 swap gifts to make my Boston Baked Beans! How cool is that!?!

Thank you so much, lakelady! I had fun doing this. And thank you to everyone who has said something about my organizing the swap this time. It was a lot of fun.

Peggy C.

Lara that is really cool about the baked beans! And just in time for picnic weather!

lakelady1
06-20-2003, 07:41 PM
I'm so glad you enjoyed -- and DH, too! To make the bacon and beans story even more "serendipity," the reason it took so long to arrive is that the company was out of the bacon. I didn't really want to wait an extra week, but my eldest daughter (married to an Air Force man who spent a year at the culinary institute) insisted I include real Virginia smoked bacon (couldn't afford to send you a whole ham -- or I would have!).

As a new resident of the Commonwealth, I'll add the following from a friend who is a "native" -- "To be a Virginian, either by Birth, Marriage, Adoption, or even on one's Mother's side, is an Introduction to any State in the Union, a Passport to any Foreign Country, and a Benediction from Above." (But, I think any Virginian would be in better stead if they would bring along some Colorado wine -- obviously good vinyards do not cease at the California border.)

This was great fun.

I got my swap package on Friday from my wonderful partner Catharine! I was so excited to open it! We decided not to swap cookbooks but opted for regional items instead. I recieved a bunch of yummy Virginian treats:

Crab House Nuts: These are gourmet Virginia peanuts with Chesapeake Bay style seafood seasoning on them. I have already sampled these and they are YUMMY!!!

Homestyle peanuts from the peanut shop. These look delicious too! I love love love peanuts!

I also got a bottle of Vidalia Onion Vinegarette that was made in Virginia. I am excited to try this on a salad. Also included was a miniature bell with the Virginia state flower and bird on it. It will have a special place in my home. And last but not least was a sampler pack of Burt's Bees products.

I love all of it! Thank you so much Catharine for being such a great swap partner! And thank you Lara for organizing it this time around! I can't wait for the next one!

After finally discovering that my swap package had been sitting in the house for a few days (darling BF forgot to tell me  and it blended with all the other boxes in our production area), I got to open my gift from Peggy C.

The Silver Grille Cookbook - From a well-known local establishment. Lots of history. Peggy took the time to make several personal notes througout the book. Very thoughtful :)

Malley's Fudge Sauce - made at a local candy store. This looks really good.

Stadium Mustard - Served at local sports games, this brand claims to be "one of the originals"

Arabica Coffee House Coffee - Samples from a local chain of coffee houses that has been around since the 70's

Postcards - To show me the sights of Cleveland Ohio

Thanks, Peggy C. for the lovely swap gift. :)

I got home last night to find Alton's (aka Madpots) package waiting for me. What fun after a loooong work weekend! :)

I received a Las Vegas magnet, a bag of treats for Gertie (she has already tried them and licked the carpet when she finished- always a good sign), a tin of tarragon, some cute chili pepper dishtowels, and not one but TWO cookbooks!!! One is a vegetarian cookbook called Meatless Dishes in Twenty Minutes- that sounds like exactly what I will need for my upcoming busy summer!! The other is a copy of Alton's own family cookbook- she's had it published so it is bound and everything! How cool is that?!?

It's called More Madpots and includes recipes from her extended family (Alton is a great-grandmother), restaurants they've visited through the years, plus lots of family anecdotes. What a neat way to learn more about someone!!!

Thank you Alton! :)

And thanks Lara for organizing the swap!

P.S.- If you are interested, I believe Alton has additional copies of her cookbook available!

Woo Hoo!! What a treasure box! I received my swap box from another wonderful Susan, swquilts, from sunny California. She sent me a huge assortment of goodies:

A bag of pistachios that I'll have to hide immediately

A jar of locally made apricot jam (can't wait to make a loaf of bread and try it out)

A honey bear filled with locally raised orange blossom honey (mmmmmmmmm)

A bottle of Mexican vanilla (awesome, awesome, awesome)

The coolest covered stainless steel salt cellar. I've always wanted one, but would never buy one for myself.

A jar of homemade BBQ rub that we all sniffed and sighed happily over.

Some postcards of local sights

And (bless her heart) a copy of MasterCook that she had extra...which, unfortunately, didn't survive the trip :(

This has been an awesome swap and Susan is a great swap partner!! Can't wait for the next round! Thanks, Susan!!!!!

Peggy!! You sent all the best things from home! :D :D Malley's Hot Fudge!!!!!! I'm just old enough to remember the Silver Grille. I loved the little cardboard "ovens" I got when I went to eat there. I also remember hauling my well-loved teddy bear to a teddy bear "reunion" that the Silver Grille had ... and of course, the real mustard. Nice choices. :) Nobody has chocolate like Malley's, do they? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

MK, I loved the cardboard ovens...I wish I still had one. They had them at Christmas time at Tower City as a gift with purchases. But it was ridiculous, they wanted you to spend like $200. Which I have no problem doing, just not at this mall!

I've already found a couple of things that I want to make! There was also some peanut brittle made locally. I ate about half of that yesterday
:o !! I didn't tell DH about it! She also included some wild rice from MN since she was visiting there recently. I can't wait to try it! And also inside were 2 great pictures of RD Chef and her BF. What a gorgeous couple they are!

I got my package from Shannon (Brittanyelise) on Friday. I tore open the package in anticipation and got the following yummy things:

Tony Packo's Hot Dog Sauce - Hubby just about whirled on his heels! Can't wait to try that one!

Olde Time Hot Pepper Jelly - We love hot stuff and I'm going to make some chicken to try this with tonight. I've never had hot pepper jelly so this will be a new thing for us!

Sunnyside Bee Farm Honey - Mmmm, fresh honey!!

Robert Rothschild Key Lime Curd Sauce - I love sour!! We will be savoring this over some vanilla ice cream shortly. It looks delish!

Walnut Creek Honey Almond Crunch Granola - I love granola in yogurt and this stuff is a yummy blend.

Mrs. Miller's Homemade Noodles - These look really fresh and healthy, no cholosterol. I'll make these with a low fat alfredo sauce that we love.

Mike-Sells Potato Chips - I must admit, we went through these on Friday night in the car as we took off for a weekend away. They were really light and not as greasy as other chips. Very good!

A copy of Columbus Monthly - We just started reading that last night. Had a good chuckle about one of the ads "Two Buck Chuck comes to Ohio". We have been discussing the $2 wine on the bulletin boards lately and they sell it by the case to just about every shopper at our local Trader Joes.

Some fresh Penzeys vanilla beans - Oooooh, I've never had real ones before!! Can't wait to try them!

Thanks Shannon for such great goodies, you were a fabulous swap partner! I loved doing this!

kima's package arrived today from British Columbia (not bad- one week). What a treat, or should I say what a bunch of treats!

Sea vegetable soap from a store called Lush. Smells wonderful! I checked out there website (http://www.lush.com) and I KNOW I'll be shopping there in the future! DH thanks you in advance for tuning me in to this place. ;)

Empress Afternoon Blend Tea from Murchie's, who apparantly created this tea exclusively for the Empress Hotel in Victoria (Maureen's hometown). I can't wait to try it- once the weather cools down.

British Columbia magazine and Victoria tourism info- full of things to do and see in BC, perhaps our next vacation destination!

Homemakers magazine- cooking and so much more! Food, health, travel, fitness, etc. Checking to see if the send subscriptions to the US...

And the piece de resistance... a cookbook from Rebar, a vegetarian restaurant featuring "modern food" in Victoria. I'm in heaven... Szechuan Noodle Salad, Squash & Smoked Cheddar Tart, Roasted Vegetable Pasticcio, Parmesan Corn Risotto Cakes- just to name a few! Y-U-M!

Maureen, thank you SO VERY MUCH! What a delight- and just in time for my vacation!

Glad it arrived so quickly Andrea!!!
Rebar has a website if anyone wants to check it out. it is a great, funky restaurant!!
Lush is all the rage here-my DDs love that place!!! It does smell heavenly in there! I had fun trying to find something that would travel well and not smell too much (we are known for our high grade pot as well!:o :p ).

Hope the magzine and tourist info does entice you to come out this way-the kayaking is apparently incredible!

I just threw the Homemaker's magazine in for a lark-thought the recipes looked quite good in this month's issue!

Thanks for letting me know it arrived Andrea! I look forward to yours arriving soon!
Oh and it's never too hot for tea up here!!!!:D

Yay! I got my package from Kara (karamel) yesterday! Fresh from the beautiful state of Washington, I got:
Market Spice Tea - I'm drinking it as I type. Very good, sort of a citrus/spice combo.

Salty Snack Mix - BBQ flavored, looks yummy

Chocolates - need I say more? :D

Scone Mix - Kara said these are served at their big fair - I think I'll save these for when I go home next month to share w/ my mom

Jellies - to go with the scones, including my favorite, "Northwest Slug Butter". It's am apple raisin walnut spread, and I love the fact that on the label it actually says, "There are no slugs in this product." Phew! :D

Vanilla Cream Soda - from Seattle, which survived the cross country trip in one piece!

She described everything to me on a cute notecard featuring the Seattle skyline.

Yum! Thank you so much Kara!

I received my package from Minky yesterday and it was really cool! Sheila definetly outdid herself.

First there was a present from her dog Ginnie to my dog Hera, some homemade dog biscuits with recipe. Hera received one right away and enjoyed it thoroughly.
The first thing I opened was Sun Valley Amber Ale Mustard which was broken into right away and it is yummy! She also included sourdough pancake mix with huckleberry syrup. Can't wait to try that this weekend! Along with that was Sun Valley white cloud coffee (:D ) yay! And a bar of wonderful smelling soap which will go into our newly remodeled downstairs bath.

The coolest thing though, (besides a spud scrubber that looks like a spud) is the package of Pepper Belly Beer Bread. I so can't wait to make this and we love hot things of all variety so I'm excited about that one!

Thank you so much Sheila, and your's will be out on Friday!

I received my wonderful package from Kim (ISAIAH30_18) yesterday. Wow!! She sent me some lovely things from MS.

They include: some salad dressing called Come Back. The restaurant says that the dressing will keep you coming back. I can't wait to try it. She also included a chocolate pie mix from a really good restaurant on the delta, a box of Mississippi cheese straws that no one there has a party without and the catalog for the store where she bought my items.

As the finale, she added the must have cookbook: The Jackson MS Junior League cookbook. I haven't had much of a chance to look through it but it is a beautiful cookbook with lots of wonderful Southern recipes. They have a recipe for Grand Marnier bars and some other recipes that I have been drooling over. I hope to make time tonight. Oh, I almost forgot, she sent an engagement picture of her and her DH. A Micky Mouse magnet for the freezer that Julia says is very LA (and she also works for Disney)

And a packet of Mickey Mouse shaped lollipops that the DSs are already "discussing" who's getting which one! (who says I'm sharing! ;) )

I had a package from my swap partner, Mrs. Reber, yesterday when I got home from work. It was filled with lots of wonderful sweets. This is what I received;
-a cookbook called "Howell Township Farm Fresh" (I'm going to make
my first recipe from it tonight!)
-a jar of her homemade strawberry jam (half the jar is gone
already ) and can I just say, how does she have time to do all this
with 2 little ones and working full time!
-macaroons
-honey spread with cinnamon (both this and the macaroon are from
a well known store in her area called, Delicious Orchards)
-peanut brittle and chocolate twizzlers from Old Monmouth (oh and a
chocolate dolphin, which was a chocolate glob -after sitting out
in 110 degree heat yesterday.

Mrs. Reber apologized for sending all the sweet stuff. No apology necessary - I love it all! I have a terrible sweet tooth. :p

This is my first swap and it was so much fun. Thanks Lara for organizing it!

I got my swap package yesterday from Jo (Oskie)! It was such fun opening it up and finding all sorts of wonderful goodies from Philly!

Here's what Jo sent me:
--Tastycakes: chocolate and peanut butter lovely little snack cakes. I'm eating one right now...YUM
--Utz pretzels: oh how I love pretzels! Could not stop munching on these last night, and then suddenly they were all gone. Boy were they good.
--Sangria from a local winery: mmmm. A perfect beverage for hot summer nights!
--Philadelphia Magazine: have only begun to browse through this, but Philly looks like a very cool place to live!
--A CD of Philadelphia songs that Jo put together for me. What a neat idea!

Thank you so much Jo!
This swap was such a great time! I can't wait til the next one!
Thank you again Lara for being the organizer!

OK-

I am about to make you all jealous. Akaido sent me a SECOND package. Yep, after that whole great first package, I got ANOTHER!

She had forgotten to include a spice that she had written about, so she sent me a bottle of the spice, and cans of funky almonds (like BBQ!)

It was unexpected, and such a pleasure. It made me feel so lucky to have "met" her, and lucky that I happened upon this BB.

Thanks.
