I did a search here and also tried Ask Jeeves. There's something wrong with their page right now.
Gotta reload the whole computer and thought I would upgrade from Windows 98. Has anyone heard or know about ME? Good or bad? Any suggestions on what to reload with if the opinion is it's too buggy? I figure if I'm going to reload I might as well not put the same thing back on...h-e-l-p!
Good or bad news, I don't care.
My brother is in software and network testing (from whatI understand), so I asked him when it came out. He said if you have Windows 98 he wouldn't change. I didn't really press for reasons, but I think he felt it came out with a number of bugs.

yeah, that's what I heard but for some reason my dad thinks it's aok but that's not what I heard so before I told him no, I thought I would check around...
We have ME version and have not had any bugs or problems. Updating from 98 is probably not worth the $ however, unless you are having a specific problem it. Most of the improvements were very specific, for example those who play lots of games would prefer to have it.
Actually, I think that was a big part of it too. Our kids have software, but it's not heavy gaming stuff. I think the changes were to support heavy multimedia use. We didn't need what it offered.

Our new Gateway computer came with ME and we haven't had any problems.
I was talking with my brother when we got our last computer, just about the time Windows ME came out. I was trying to figure out whether we cared whether we got one with Win 98 or WinME. After Mlou's post, I think I remembered asking baout bugs, but his main thing was that you didn't need to upgrade to ME unless you had a need or problem to resolve. So his view was that if your software and applications run fine on 98, it doesn't matter. I don't remember specific bugs, just that we said with anything brand new, you can find them.

Speaking of flipfloppy and flappy, I've flapped my jaws into Memberdom. That figgers is probably what my DH would say.

I got a new computer a couple of months ago and it came with ME. I haven't had any problems with it.
I'm not being flipfloppy...just trying to remember. It gets tougher sometimes, especially about something you decided didn't matter months ago. Gimme a break! Please? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Well, without jinxing myself - altho I find that hard considering how my new year has started - I never had any trouble with Windows 98 and I heard bad stuff about it...the only thing that concerns me is that Office Max has ME on sale...very cheap...hmmm...Hey, beth, keep flipflopping those answers on out, ya hear? :-)
My son-in-law who is friends with a manager at one of the major office supply stores told me at Thanksgiving not to switch "yet."
I did not ask why, but assumed there were still bugs.
There, got someone else to do it first! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

The thing I love about this board is not just the ability to talk about anything (not just light cooking even) but to be flipfloppy! I just love that word....my two year old is rubbing off on me, I say stuff just 'cause I like the way it sounds.
Anyways - MY software friend says that ME is fine. Maybe the reason someone was told to wait is that MS is coming out with a new OS in April that is called Whistler and it is supposed to be great.
We're going to get a new computer in the next week or so and are going to go with ME...Flip-flopy, flip-flappy, I love it!
Susan
Susan, you probably don't have any choice now that ME has been out for a while, unless you are buuying an older or refurbushed computer. Am I wrong? A few months ago, that was what we faced: a new computer with ME or a refurbished one with Win98.
