This isn't a marinade, but the end result is an excellent grilled chicken. Mix equal parts of hoisin sauce and molasses. Stir in 1-2 tablespoons of garlic chili paste, depending on your tolerance for heat. I rub a little into the chicken and let it sit for an hour or two (longer if I have time). When you grill the chicken, wait until it is almost done, then slather on the sauce and turn the chicken to allow the sauce to carmelize and get "crispy." I like to put on several coats of the sauce to really build up the flavor. Just keep an eye on the chicken at this point, because the molasses can burn because of the sugar content. No special care needed--just don't put the lid down on the grill and go inside to do the dishes! This recipe is one that even my very picky eaters finish off every time.
Wow, fantastic! I wasn't sure about the amounts of hoisin and molasses, but it was fabulous! DH insisted that I had to have made more chicken than I did. It is on the menu for later this week!! Thanks again!

You're welcome, Susan! Isn't it nice to have something that wows people and takes exactly 3 minutes of prep? :D That's my kind of recipe. I usually use 1/4 to 1/3 cup each of hoisin and molasses for 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts. If I use 1/3 cup of each, I definitely go for the 2 tablespoons of garlic chili paste, but we like stuff hot around here.

What is the Garlic Chili Paste?
editing to ask if this would be good on meats other than chicken, and what that would be.

Garlic chili paste is orange and comes in a little jar in the asian section of my grocery store.

Thanks. I don't do much Asian style food, but this recipe sounds yummy.
