I cant believe Boulder didnt fall on the fit list...I always heard they were. ALso, we have more people that eat out that in any city in the nation, but lots of us workout, too! Oh well. How does your city rate?

I live in Atlanta, and my dream cities are Boston, Seattle and Portland...is it any wonder? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I'm also way (insert Valley girl accent here) surprised about Boulder not being on the fit list...maybe they ruled out fitness cult cities...

Although just for an interesting comparison, Atlanta was also named one of the top 10 Running Cities in America by Runner's World. Go Figure.

ok lets see, if i want to be "fit" i'm from Boston, if i want to be "flabby" i'm from Phoenix.

since i grew up in the Boston area, i'll say Boston, but i actually now live in the Phoenix area.

i actually consider myself pretty fit, not flabby! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Well, Washington barely made it in the top ten. I think they were higher in previous years. Maybe they dropped after I moved back here a few years ago! Oh no! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif Time to get back to the gym!

Maybe Boulder is not on there because it isn't big enough. Glad to see Colorado Springs was on the list. Runner's World said it was one of the top 10 running cities as well. I guess I better live up to my end of the bargain. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Actually I'm pretty surprised Fresno is in the fit category. I'm from San Diego and had heard it made #1 last year - didn't surprise me at all. However, Fresno has the most fast food restaurants per person (population wise) than any other - at least in Ca. and is the #1 video rental market (that may be nationwide or just Ca. not sure). So, if they want to say we're fit I won't argue.

Mlou,

I am not surprised where Columbus ended up either. Sometimes I am amazed at the volume of obese people here.

I am always looking for new light or lighten recipes and will occasionally check the ONLY newspaper in town. It rarely has this type of recipe posted and if they feature a cook they are usually over weight.

It is really sad. Especially for the kids.

Grew up in Minneapolis and now live in Milwaukee...fortunately I've stayed true to my roots! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

To be honest I was surprised that Milwaukee was only 22nd - I kind of expected it to be much higher than that! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif

I didn't see St. Louis on either list (did I miss it?) Guess that keeps us in the mediocre range, but wouldn't be surprised to find it on the fat list. There seem to be plenty of overweight people around.

As we have slipped into the subject of running just a tiny bit, I have to add an observation from a friend of mine. She lives in a city that seems very fat to her, so that is what she is used to seeing everyday. She was participating in a 10K and on race day made a comment about how much she loved being at the race because she got to be around fit people for a change. Gina

I'm not surprised about houston at all...my husband and I moved to Dallas 6 months ago and can't believe how many obese people we see...which isn't surprising with the weather and with the ridiculous portions you get a every restaurant, not to mention what you get... my husband's a vegetarian and it's almost impossible to even find a veggie meal out..not even the veggie combos you usually get a Mexican restaurants. And if they have anything it's got so much cheese on it it's fat laden too!!!
