I have a 12 ounce bag of seafood combination in my freezer that I need to use soon since I've had it for a while. It has a mixture of raw octopus, raw cuttlefish, raw squid, raw shrimp, cooked mussels or cooked clams.

Does anyone know what I can make with it?

Considering the way I feel about seafood, I'd say you could make...

:D :D :D

a trip to the trash can. (But I'm hopeless--sorry.)

There's always stirfry, but in this case I'd lean more towards paella or the like.

What about a seafood cioppino? There is one that calls for shrimp, mussels, and a fish in the CL complete. I am sure you could add the other seafood "delights" to the mix.

Based on your recommendations I searched and searched for seafood stew or something like it. I didn't find anything that used octopus and squid. So I think I will try again using those descriptions instead of "seafood" for the search.

I would like to make something rather simple to make, I am tending to like the idea of pasta olive oil and seasonings or the light cream red sauce. I also found this on the BB:

1. frozen bag of mixed seafood. thawed out.
2. frozen veggies - sugar snap peas, brocolli, whatever -
defrost in microwave
3. maybe some mushrooms and basil and tomato
4. After everything is sliced/thawed/defrosted, put in a pot with wine
and lemon juice and warm it all up together.
5. you can put in extra spices, but keep it simple.....
it's like a seafood stew.

And, there's no oil/butter/ or fat

I am not really sure what kind of seasonings to use.

Hi Daniele - You could try this recipe with what you have on hand. I have made it with whitefish before and it was very good. I am thinking it might be nice to use with a mix of seafood also, since the sauce is somewhat spicy and will help bring all the other flavors together.

This is really good - I think it's good with the calamari steaks cut into strips, but you could also use the rings. I also made this with a firm white fish, like halibut, one time, and it was very good. Usually I serve it over basmati rice for a very filling meal. I used chili powder in place of the ancho chili.

Calamari Mediterraneo - 7 pts

Recipe By :Adapted from The Special Taste of Florida
Serving Size : 2 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Seafood

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 tablespoon roasted garlic oil
2 tablespoons roasted garlic cloves
1 pound calamari -- in strips
2 tablespoons capers
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon ancho chili -- chopped
2 plum tomatoes -- diced
1/4 cup dry white wine
3 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon Italian parsley
salt to taste, optional pepper

For the roasted garlic oil, combine 1 cup of good quality olive oil with 3/4 cup of peeled garlic cloves and cover with aluminum foil. Bake in the oven at 300 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cloves are soft. [Note from Anne: I just use 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and saute 1 crushed garlic clove in it before using. Don't get the garlic brown or it won't taste good.]

In a hot saute pan, add the garlic oil, garlic cloves, and calamari. Saute for 1 minute, then add the capers, cumin, red pepper flakes, chopped ancho chili, and diced tomatoes, then cook for another minute. Add the white wine and lime juice, then simmer for a few minutes. Finish with parsley, salt and pepper. Reduce until sauce thickens.

Recipe is from Il Ristorante at the Miami Biltmore. Original recipe called for 2 tablespoons of roasted garlic oil, and 2 cups of sliced calamari. I also omitted the optional teaspoon of butter that they added at the final reduction stage.

I made the Calamari Mediterraneo tonight for supper using the mixed seafood instead of calamari. It was really good, thanks Goldie for that recipe.
