I have a recipe that requires me to flatten chicken breasts using a meat mallet or rolling pin, neither of which i own. can anyone suggest something else that might work to flatten the chicken, until i have a chance to buy the real thing? thanks!

Hi Nicole,

I was watching Emeril the other day and he said that you can use a wine bottle covered with plastic wrap if you don't have a meat mallet. Just hold the bottle by the neck and pound the chicken with the bottom. It also works great as a makeshift rolling pin!

I just got a meat mallet for Christmas but before that I used my 8 in. frying pan which has a little weight to it. I put the chicken breasts between wax paper or saran wrap so the pan doesn't even get dirty.

Thanks for the suggestions! i was afraid to try something that might break and cause a mess, but a wine bottle and frying pan are probably sturdy enough to do the trick!

Who owns a meat mallet?
Just smack that chicken around on the countertop... or hit it with the bottom end of a glass... the wine bottle trick works too http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
