Yeah! This is my favorite part of the year. I love going to summer concerts! This summer we are going to 5 Phish shows (2 Alpine Valley, 3 Verizon AKA Deer Creek), Bob Dylan and The Dead, Allman Brothers, Les Claypool, and Leftover Salmon. We're also going to a Blues Festival featuring local artists. I'm sure we'll add many more shows to that list though. So who are you going to see?

GREAT BIG SEA on Saturday!!! With Sarah and Mary Kate (MKSquared), no less. :D This will be the second time this summer that I've seen them.

The mega Rolling Stones, AC/DC, etc. concert in Toronto at the end of the month. I'm sure it won't be the best quality listening, amid 800,000 people, but it just sounds like an experience, so we figured, why not? :D We also plan to see some jazz concerts with friends and so on, throughout the summer. I'd also like to start going to lots of classical concerts again, but I prefer the regular season concerts to many of the summer "pop" offerings, so may wait until fall for that. Just my preference -- nothing wrong with pops on a lovely summer evening. :)

I have fifth row seat to see Boston!!!!!!! I am so excited! Boston is "our" band. My DH asked me to marry him at a Boston concert and we used their song "Livin' for You" as our first dance song at our reception! So this June was our fifth aniversary and he bought me fifth row seats to their concert here in Phoenix!:D

Austin City Limits Festival, in September. The headliners are REM, Jack Johnson, and Ben Harper. Other featured artists include Dwight Yoakam, Steve Winwood, Nickel Creek, Liz Phair, Shawn Colvin, and lots of others.

David Gray will be here in August, but I'll be gone on vacation. :(

I saw Boston last weekend in Charlotte. Toss that in with a Bon Jovi concert last March, I think I'm done with my concerts for the year. HA! In my book, after seeing those two bands (my very two favorite of ALL the bands), I don't need to see any other concerts!!! :D :D :D :D

Diane - that was a terrific Boston story! Thanks for sharing!! You'll love the concert!!!! Did you see my post from 6/29?? I got backstage passes to meet the band!! The only band member that didn't come to the meet-and-greet was Tom Scholz.

RADIOHEAD!!!!!!. The closest they're coming to Raleigh is Maryland, so we're going to take a few days off of work and make a mini-vacation of it. I cannot wait.

We just saw Styx, Journey and REO two weeks ago. Next month Def Leppard is coming to town, so we might see that.

(Yes, as you can see they bring all the bands for us "old fogies" when the students are away for the summer!) :)

Diana Krall on Friday night!! :) I saw Cheryl Crow last year and she is great in concert, very energetic and loves what she does. I also saw John Meyer at the same time, and although I do like him (with the exception of Your Body is a Wonderland  ) I found his performance to be kind of lackluster, maybe it was an offnight.

Oh my gosh!!!!!! How cool! You are the lucky one! How did you manage to get back stage passes? Not being a huge concert go-er I wouldn't have any idea on how to do that! I'd love to though!!!!!

I got VERY lucky!! A good friend of mine is best friends with Brad's ex-mother-in-law. The m-i-l actually asked his ex-wife if she could get them for me. I'm VERY VERY thankful and appreciative!!!

BUT...at the meet-and-greet, a woman, hubby, and their teenaged daughter sat at the same table with my son and I. She had send an email to the boston.org email address basically telling why she'd love to get backstage passes and asked if there was any way to get them. The morning of the concert, she checked her email and was totally surprised to find an email saying the backstge passes would be waiting on them at will-call!! She didn't have any contacts!!! I suspect they have x-number of tickets and if other connections don't take up the tickets, they must have some way of giving them out to various emails to the site. Give it a shot!! Heck! It definitely worked for this lady!!

I got my tickets and the Corporate America CD signed by everyone (except Tom). I have pics of everyone too (except Tom). :-) Brad, Kimberley, Jeff, Gary, and Fran are all EXTREMELY nice and personable. Anthony (who signed his autograph "Antonio") seemed to almost be a recluse at the meet-and-greet....but, I've read several times that he's EXTREMELY shy and that's just how he comes off. He did stand for some pics and signed autographs, but we had to walk over to him. The others walked around to each table.

Do you know about any of the bulletin boards for the group?? I have a link at work that I'll post for you where people are giving their reviews and comments about each show. It's fun seeing what other people think about the concert.

I know about Boston.org thats it. I do gothere a couple of times a year just to keep posted to see what is happening and when they will tour again. I have signed theirr gurst book a couple of times for the fun of it. Perhaps I will have to try the trick the lady at the meet and greet tried and see what comes of it! Thanks for sharing! We are excited just to be going so if we don't get back stage that's ok but it sure would be a bonus!

Here's the link to the other bulletin board where they're discussing the different concerts. It's kind of fun reading it.

Not nearly as exciting as you guys but if I combine the entire family's plans it may sound interesting.

DH and DD heard Kathleen Edwards at The Birchmere in June--had a ticket but had to help second DD pack for Spain. Pretty unknown but I have been listening to her CD a lot lately and would definitely recommend.

DH and I heard Stacey Earle(Steve's sister) and Mark Stuart last week. Loved it.

Eddie from Ohio will be in Richmond for a free concert the first Friday in August. We love EFO!!!!!!!

Older DD(19) is going to Wolf Trap to hear Ani Difranco in August. Younger DD(16) has tickets for Justin and Christina in DC--someone has to take her and I hope it isn't me. She also has tickets for the American Idol show here. The plan is to go with a friend but I may go instead. We watched the whole thing on Fox--about the only way we bond. Needless to say, my daughters have very different tastes in music.

Finally, DH and I are going to Orkney Springs, VA the Saturday before Labor Day to hear Rosanne Cash and John McCutheon. An interesting venue at the end of the road.

Okay, I'm not going to anything this year, but I WISH I was going to see Duran Duran in Vegas! My sis and I joked that if either of us won the lottery we'd fly the other out to see it with us--we are old school Durannies!
LOL

michele,
i'm so envious of your daughter...i've been dying to see ani difranco, and it just hasn't worked out yet. she's in nyc this week, and of course, timing has it that i've already moved down to new orleans.
i'd love to hear how the concert was!

The concert is sometime the first part of August--I'll try to remember to let you know what she says. I have seen Ani twice--beore DD was old enough to take herself to concerts, she would drag her parents along. Ani does an excellent show--so good that I didn't have too much trouble getting over being one of the oldest there.

Afraid you have prompted a story. Cara (now 19) has been an Ani fan since she was 11--DH introduced her to Ani's music--a friend was playing her stuff on a radio show at Univ. of Richmond. Before her 12th birthday she decided she wanted to race in the Soapbox Derby. The car kits and sponsorship cost $400 and she didn't have access to big money sponsors. Still determined she decided to beat the streets for $$$. She asked for and received donations from family, friends, local businesses, etc. Her largest contribution came from Ani. She called Ani's manager, Scot Fisher. He said, "I think that is something Ani would like to do." She donated $100 and Cara named her car The Righteous Babe. Her grandfather helped her build the car and she raced it two years. Remnants of it are still in the garage--we can't bear to part with it. Ani even mentioned the sponsorship in a magazine article several years ago. Cara and DH have met Ani--about 5 years ago--but she doesn't give long visits--just a quick hello--but it was enough for her.

Fleetwood Mac on August 13. Here's my story: My husband has been a huge fan of theirs for many, many years. In 1980, they were coming to our city (Wichita). My huband was so excited, until he realized that was the day we were to planning to be married (the church was reserved, and invitations were probably being printed, etc). I said, "You'll have another chance to see them." He has waited almost 23 years. We got the good seats!

I get to see them on July 25 in Greenville, SC!!! Can't wait as these are my favorite bands from when I was in school. Also might see Kiss/Aerosmith in Charlotte in September.
