View Full Version : So, do you think we'll be here in 20 years?

I was checking in on this board again this morning and was thinking about all the stuff we all share, and how some members have been lucky enough to meet others and become IRL friends, etc. I got all existential and was wondering if in 15 years I'll still be checking in on the boards, we'll all be looking at pictures of each other (except we'll all have grey hair!) and we'll be talking about our grand doggies and grand kiddies and newest prune recipe;)

What do you think? I can think of worse things . . . :)

Well, some of us would already show some grey if it weren't for that little bottle of magic! ;)
And I guess as long as I can remember how to boot, log on, and type, after I've found the computer, then I guess I'll be here!

I'll be here if I'm able, but I will be very old by then. With the senior moments I already have, I can't even imagine what it will be like by then.

"Well, some of us would already show some grey if it weren't for that little bottle of magic! "

That is exactly what I was thinking.

I haven't really been here long enough to have a right to comment but it feels like I'll be around for a long time. I really enjoy this board and I'm starting to feel like I know some of you already.

What a thought! In 15 years, I'll be 54, so I really don't want to think about that. :( Also, since my oldest son will be 12 next month, I don't know if I want to be talking about "grand kiddies" quite yet. But, unless I suddenly get a life or have moved to Maui and have taken to surfing the ocean, rather than the net, I guess I won't be any where else but here. ;)

Funny you should mention this - I was thinking about this same thing a few days ago. More along the lines of "I sure hope the BB never goes away - if it does, what would I DO? But can I reasonably expect this board and all the people on it to stay around forever??"

I sure hope it does, anyway! :D :D

Thank goodness, Grace - someone else on the same page as me! I really wasn't trying to give everyone aging complexes:p

Oh, I didn't mean to imply you did. It just made me think what age I would be then. In my mind I am always 21 :D :D :D

Aging is interesting, isn't it?

When I started teaching, I was the young one on a staff of people 1 - 40 years my senior. By the time the years went by, I was the third oldest person on my staff.

Since I retired two years ago, I'm once again in the "younger" category of a peer group.

All I can say is that it is a great privilege to have local and virtual friends of all ages who share similar interests. Long live this BB!

I already have gray hair, but I plan to stick around for a while.

In 15 years, I'll be 47. Wow, that sounds awfully grown-up :)

I love to dig back and find old threads - just to see what we were talking about then.

It's been almost 7 years since this thread was started - and I think most of you are still here....

A bigger question for me is, will the board still be here? According to the thread about the CL redesign, no one's renewing their subscriptions.
I'm already north of 50 (gasp) but hope to still be around the boards.

Unfortunately, I think we've lost quite a few to FB.:( There are some I really miss hearing from.

Yes! I agree!

I'd hate for the board to go away! I've already met Canice, and am looking forward to meeting others... of course, I'd probably have to travel to do that, since I live in the boonies, but I'm game!:D

Couldn't you two have agreed to meet at today's Tea Party rally? :)

How to lure the FB folks back over here? I don't have anyone FB 'handle' over there and have no idea how a conversation over there operates when compared to this board.

This cracked me up because not even 5 minutes ago I was looking at facebook and noticed a friend uploaded pictures of her son playing little league baseball. I visualized what this kid would look like in 20 years and how he'd laugh at how he looked....then I got to thinking, wonder if facebook will even be around in 20 years? Or will this lady ever print out a hard copy of this picture? Will the digital file still be popular in the future for him to look at on a computer? You know, like no one looks at VHS tapes that were recorded of family events back when they happened, is that how the digital pictures will become? Something new and better will be offered and no one bothers with the old stuff anymore, so you lose those memories? THEN I got to wondering, does anyone else wonder what things will be like in 20 years? Or do they just go through life and never question the future? :D

That's a lot of thinking for about 30 seconds!

54's not so bad. ;)

But, in my head, I'm still 17! But then I look in the mirror --- yep, 54!

I would imagine the board will still be here. Some of us will be here too. What will REALLY be interesting is to see how the cooking will change.

What foods will be the savior of us all? Which will be "of the devil"?

Wow, just little over 13 years to go. Maybe we might make it. My hair is grey now and I am always talking about the grandkids. The only thing to look forward to is the Prune recipes. :D

I also am very concerned about the future of this BB. If,(God forbid) something did happen to CL, what would we all do if they closed this BB? I don't tweet or know anything about Facebook. I for one would be very sad and lost without you great people here. I feel like this is my second home and you all are my family. (well, some of you:D)

So while I have the time, THANK YOU ALL for being so much fun to be around and so nice and helpful and friendly, smart, caring.............you get the idea. ;) making a blubbering idiot of myself.

It amazes me to think that, when I went back to school about 10 years ago that I wasn't familiar at all with the internet. Not too long after that (I think) I stumbled across this site!

I still remember the olden days when it wasn't yet split into 3 boards... ;) :D

Me, too. When I say I lurked for a long time, I really meant a long time. I remember all the hubbub about the split into multiple boards, too--quite a bit of angst. Funny--I was just thinking about that the other day.

Me too. I pop in and read most every day, but don't post all that often. I sure hope I'm around in 20 years.

On a bit of a morbid note, I've sometimes wondered about posters passing away. Sometimes I've noticed I don't see posts from people any more, and wondered why. I don't think I've ever read a post where people talk about terminal illnesses and the end is near, although I've seen some asking for prayers and support for serious illnesses. But I would think somewhere along the line, someone was in an accident and never heard from again. Weird thoughts - I know - I don't know why I think them! :o

Aw Canice, c'mon! She's got some great advice! What can top "Always be attractive because the snake nut"? Also, it's good to know that "flowers do not like my whole life". I guess this means they only like part of it. :p
