I can't seem to find chipotle chile in adobo sauce. A real bummer because so many recipes I want to try seem to have it!
What isle would it be on? And if I still can't find it, does anyone know of a good substitute?
Thanks!

I have not been able to find it either. I think I am going to try out ethnicgrocer.com because a lot of people here have recommended it for those hard-to-find ingredients.

You can order chipotle peppers in adobo from www.mohotta.com. (http://www.mohotta.com.) On their website, look under "Provisions" then under "Latin American." It's item 0634, costs $2.75 for 7 oz. Have fun!

I also have had trouble finding these. I did have dried chipolte's on hand so I just threw them in boiled water for about 10 minutes then proceed on with the recipe. I have been wondering the affect.... missing the adobe sauce or not.

salted peanut (Cute name!)
I get them on the Mexican food aisle at the grocery store. Try there.

I also find them in the Mexican food section at Vons. Small cans - next to other canned peppers like jalapeno, green chilis, etc.
If you don't find there you might check next to the salsa section.

If you can't find them in your regular grocery store try a couple of things...sometimes grocers will have them dried (not in adobo sauce) where they have other dried peppers, fruits, etc near the produce. If your grocer can't order them then go to a Mexican grocery; they'll certainly have them and you can stock up. That's what I used to do. Now I've found something at my grocery called Harriett's Chipotle Sauce in a bottle...it's like a barbeque or chili sauce and it's great because I can just measure out a tablespoon at a time and keep the rest in the bottle. And it's not quite as hot as the whole chilis.

Here's a brand name to give you grocer when you ask him to order.
Emsanmar
Empacadora
San Marcos
Note: All three names are on the front of the can but San Marcos is in the largest letters. It comes in a 7 oz can. The address on the back of the label is:
Empacadora San Marcos
S. A. DE C.V. P.O. BOX 14
Grajales, Puebla 75000 Mexico
Hope this helps becasue they really add a great taste with the adobe sauce!
