Our sweet girl Dixie went in to get spayed today. She's an older foster springer spaniel that we've had for a year and are adopting, and ESRA requires that the pet is neutered/spayed (with good reason). During prep for the surgery, the Vet noticed that she had some lumps in her teats and called to ask if they could do some more exploring while spaying her.
To make a long, sad story short, they found several teats with tumors and removed a tumor along with her ovaries and her uterus (which was also abnormal). She had no 'masses', however there was several areas of significant increased blood flow/venation around those areas which may indicate the beginnings of cancer. :( :( :( :( :(
The vet reminded us that nothing's conclusive, and that results will be back in 7 - 10 days. A good friend of DH's is a vet and said that most tumors come back 50/50 benign/malignant. Neither of us like those odds at all, 100/0 is what were praying for.
DH and I are broken-hearted at the thought of losing her, she is our daughter as much as if she were human. Dewey (her pesky, younger 'brother') moped around all day, pacing and looking for her during walks.
I can no longer see to type. Please remember Dixie in your prayers for us.
Kyle

Your little girl is gorgeous. I most certainly will keep Dixie in my prayers. Right now our golden retriever is dealing with lymphoma - if you need to talk, or need any info I have on veterinary oncology, please PM me.
Big hugs for you and biscuits for her -

I'll be thinking of Dixie over the next week and hoping for good news. I guess in some ways it's fortunate you were having her spayed now and the vet caught this, hopefully early enough.

Dixie came home yesterday evening; she looked miserable when we first picked her up, but as we got home and she saw the house with her soft bed and the yard with all the good smells in it, she perked right up. She's still a bit groggy and sore, and is unable to handle stairs yet, so we brought our mattress downstairs and all slept in a big pile together on the floor (it actually WAS a two dog night here in Michigan!)
She has been sleeping alot today, but still wants to run around looking for squirrels the minute she gets outside , and completely resents that big 'franken-belly' scar she's got now, that's not allowing her to. DH and I are hoping for the best and should get the results within a week or so; we'll keep y'all posted...
Thanks again, and keep the good vibes coming.
