Hi all! We're back home after 2 weeks in beautiful Nova Scotia. What a trip it was.

First things first, here's a link to our photo album at Image Station: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289669099

As for the trip, nothing but great weather- very little rain (only when we were in the car), mostly sunny, not too hot.

We LOVED Halifax!! What a terrific, energetic, fun-filled city. We spent 3 nights there, including Canada Day. We'd definitely go back because we just couldn't eat everywhere we wanted! Of note, a GREAT vegetarian restaurant downtown, Satisfaction Feast! Awesome shopping, great parks, delicious food...

Then we headed up to Cape Breton. Quick lunch stop in Baddeck, then off to Cape North. Not much there except a motel, a B&B (spent the night), a gas station and a (really good) restaurant. Many crafts/artisans along the Cabot Trail- the only road around the northern part of Cape Breton. Then to Cheticamp for 2 nights. A very French town, deep in Acadian tradition and culture. I passed off as French-speaking twice with the locals! Good, homey comfor food here- cod cakes, meat pie, gingerbread with caramel sauce, butterscotch meringue pie. I HAD to buy a cookbook!

For the next 3 days, we were on the water on our kayak tour, camping along the way. The first day was fantastic- great conditions and an awesome camping spot (see photo album). Our guides were excellent and the food was even better! The second day, however, proved challenging. We awoke to 8-10 foot swells on the water and about 20-25 knot winds! We just made the 3 hour paddle to our lunch spot, but could not go on to our 2nd night's stopover- gale force winds that evening (we were to stay in a very unsheltered bay) and no road access. So, we hitched back to town, packed up the boats and drove to the other side of Cape Breton. We camped at North River and paddled St. Ann's Harbor the next day. We had a great time; disappointed that we didn't do the whole trip, but that's kayaking! Gotta be flexible.

Finally, we drove south. Quick (really quick!) stops in Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg on our way to Liverpool. Not much there but that was o.k. Our B&B was on the water (great sunrises and sunsets), 10 minutes from a national park and some great beaches.

If we ever go back, we'll do a few days in NS and add PEI and/or Newfoundland.

Well, I've gone on long enough... if I think of anything else, I'll stop back. What a wonderful journey! (but happy to be home with the dogs!)

Enough with the cod tongues!! No, sorry to say I did not have any (nor did I see them anywhere- though that could just be due to my selective menu scanning abilities... ;) )
