:D Sitting in the sunroom and watching the lightening bugs in the backyard
:D The sound of tree frogs
:D Opening the windows, after having the A/C on during a powerful rainstorm, and smelling that fresh, clean air
:D Seeing tomatoes ripen on my potted roma tomato plant
:D Raspberry lemonade
:D The smell of a lawn that was just mowed
:D The smell of the first hay harvest
Obviously I'm very sensory. ;) What are your favorite things? :)
HUNGRY!

Let's see....
*Grilling
*Going to the beach (if only it were the ocean...but lakes will have to do for now)
*Hanging out on the patio - in the morning reading a book and drinking my tea or hanging out with DH and/or friends enjoying a beer or glass of wine at night
*Kicking the kids outside when they get rowdy :D
*That really sleepy feeling you get after being in the sun all day.
*Nothing feels as good as a long shower and an ice cold beer after getting sweaty mowing the lawn. :)
*Fresh tomatoes, corn and blueberries
There's more, but that's all I can think of right now.
Alysha :)

Corn, cherries, peaches, and Vidalia Onions! :D
Aside from the food, IMO there is very little that is redeemable about summer where I live... :o I haven't seen a lightening bug in years! Maybe the mosquitoes have driven them off...

I'm with Rebecca on this one. I can't even go outside in the evening to check on my garden, because I get eaten alive by ants and mosquitoes. :(
But right, this thread was about GOOD things about summer:
refreshing dips in the outdoor pool
laying out in the sun and getting a tan
grilling
washing the dogs in the backyard with a hose
finally getting some rain when a hurricane blows through

While I am very grateful for having a/c!!!! :p
I also love:
·afternoon rain that cools things off
·taking the dogs for a run down the pasture and watching them swim in the pond
·sitting on the back porch in the evening
·taking a moonlit swim with just DH...
·having DH do the cooking out on the grill
·working in the garden in the very early morning
·popsicles
·sitting with DH in the swing under the big oak tree

• Sandals and painted toenails
• Nearly endless daylight; around here the solstice it stays light here till well after 9.
• Fresh herbs from the garden
• Eating dinner on the porch with DH and watching the world go by
• Thunderstorms, as long as I am safe inside :)
• Driving on dry roads
That being said, I think anything over 82 is way too hot. I am more of an autumn girl, but summer does have its distinct pleasures.

Uh - my tongue was implanted DEEPLY in my cheek, guys!! Honest!! :) And Rebecca, you do NOT!!! :D
I told Eva I'd probably hate summer if I lived in Texas too. Honest.
I just strongly dislike winter (sorry, Ana and Sue :p) - and I'm relishing in this warmth.

I love everything about summer!
* I get to spend my weekends at our shore house (used to be the entire summer but now I'm stuck at work) - going to the beach, getting tan, playing in the ocean, taking boat rides, watching the sun set over the bay from our dock...
* I enjoy my morning runs so much more - so much better than having to bundle up to run in the cold!
* I met DBF in the summer five years ago. And this summer marks our 3-year dating anniversary :)
* My birthday's coming up!
ps. I'm keeping this a happy thread! Or at least I'm trying to, Sandy!

I'm afraid that I suck too, Rebecca.
I'm a dyed-in-the-wool, hate-heat, autumn fan :). But that isn't to say that there aren't things I LOVE about summer. So, yes, Sandy... I can contribute to your thread:
One of the biggest reasons why I'll tolerate summer is so that I can garden (living in WI means that summer is the only good time for doing this). The whole ACT of watching something grow is miraculous to me. And the benefit of fresh herbs and vegetables is simply incomparable.
The availability of fresh, LOCAL produce is the other bigtime summer advantage to me.
I also really like wearing sandals, which I can't do in the wintertime :)

*laying on my float in the pool

I still lobb ya! :D Hugs to ya!
Another she-who-hates-hot-weather person here. However, in Southern California that could just as easily mean December as July.
What I really do like about summer though would be that it's beach weather. I love the feel of the ocean breeze, and the roar of the ocean waves.
I love feeling the need to dine on fresh fish, rice, and fresh tropical fruit.
Hmm... that sounds good right now. And I have to go to the market...

Okay I finally thought about my favorite things
* No nagging my kids about homework :D
* Summer fruit (peaches, plums, pluots, watermelon, cherries)
* The possiblility of a warm evening (only if the fog stays put)
* Splurging on pedicures since I'm wearing sandals
* Fireworks on the 4th of July
* Listening to my kids describe their day at camp
* Free outdoor concerts
I'm sure there is more....I know there was when I lived in an area that really got summer, SF Bay Area weather is just to unpredicatable!

When I was a child, many moons ago ;) , we had a Dairy Queen that was only open in the summer. This was in a suburb of Chicago and it was run by 2 ederly sisters that spent their winters in Florida (and the DQ profits paid for it all!). My favorite was the cone dipped in chocolate!!!

OK, I'm not even a "summer person" and this thread's makin' me want to paint my toenails pink, pull on shorts and a tanktop, and stretch out in a hammock, a wedge of watermelon in hand.
<of course, my down-clad neighbors would have me hauled away, but still....>

What Debie said!!!!!
I am such a summer girl!
I love the warmth of the sun on my skin.
I'll also admit to loving a good tan (yes, I know it's not good for me, but, well, everyone has to have at least one vice).
Fresh tomatos, corn on the cob, watermelon, cherries........
