I just got back from Sam's.
They were selling "The Classic Cookbook" ...it is 2 cookbooks in a one volume (the Cook's Bible and the Dessert Bible) from Cook's Illustrated magazine.
It's selling for $9.87  :D :D
Of course, if you have the two already, this doesn't do you much good. Can you believe I didn't have them :o :)

Thanks, Wallycat, for the tip! I'll look next time I go to my Sam's, but I'm not holding my breath. My Sam's hasn't had any of the CL cookbooks, including Complete or the new Superfast Suppers that I have been wanting. But, one can still hope (and create wish lists at Amazon!) :D

LOL! No kidding. I'm safe as I don't have a membership at Sam's but I do have to watch out at Costco.

By the way, I saw CL Complete at Costco today, and also The Barefoot Contessa Family Style. I recommend them both to those who don't have them yet.

Interesting. I bought this before Christmas because Borders (or Barnes and Noble, can't remember which) had it on sale. However, I paid $19.99 for it, so this definitely sounds like a better deal. One word of caution though, you need to like Kimball's style (i.e. like Cook's Illustrated's approach). If you don't, this book will drive you bonkers. :D
I think you cookbook fanatics are in serious need of therapy.....

You guys are nuts :D And I go with Sue's lalalalas. I just ordered the new CL one (Superfast Suppers?) for myself as a birthday present. I refuse to buy another or even let myself be tempted

I'm heading over to Sam's today and I sure hope they have this book. $8.99 is a steal. Barnes and Noble is selling The Dessert Bible for $9.87.

Mamasue-I am disappointed that you would encourage such remarks as that made by my former friend Wendy!;)
My cookbook collection is modest and I am never tempting by the latest Moosewood, Nigella Lawson or anything remotely Mediterranean.
The 100 books or more than sit on my bookshelf came with the house and are merely ornamental.
That's my story and I am sticking to it.

I got it! Yahoo. What a bargain. As Wallycat mentioned, it's two books made into one, so it's really HUGE. I was reading it last night. I can't vouch for all of CI's recipes, but any book that spends 2 pages talking about chocolate chip cookies and a page and a half of discussing yellow cake is for me.
I can see why this book wouldn't be a best seller though -- no pictures, really. Just a few sketches and a bunch of text.
Sam's did have a lot of good cookbooks on sale. One in particular, was Forever Summer (Nigella Lawson) for $22.00.

Claire, that was sort of my feeling too :)
They also include all of the reviews of appliances and tastings they've done.
I admit that because the book had been out a few years ago, some of the appliances are outdated....still, it's nice to have it all in one place, especially if you're a CI follower and you don't have the books when they first came out. $10.00 for any cookbook these days seems like a deal to me  :o ;)

C'mon Maureen, you know what a brat I am when it comes to cookbook collecting. You know that I am one of the last ones to talk. :o Just couldn't resist joshing you and you know that I lobb you.
Go ahead, spike that camomile tea with your favorite spirit. :p ;)
I lobb you too Wendy....I was just having some fun. I am a proud cookbook fanatic too!:)
Just go into denial every once and awhile.....:o
