ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!

In the last two weeks I have received fradulent notices from unscrupulous individuals.

The first was supposedly from eBay telling me that they were updating their security measures and asking me for my user name and password. I thought, YOU ARE SECURITY ...You figure it out! In talking to a friend, she told me that I should report it because she heard somewhere not to give password out or answer these emails, because they were stealing passwords and then invading accounts and stealing Credit Card information.

Well, I contacted eBay and sure enough, it was fradulent.

Today I received an email from 'eBay' telling me that they were suspending me for fradulent practices like trying to sign up using someone elses user information, then it listed a form that I needed to fill out, giving my life history including the credit card that I used to sign up with eBay.

I am sure that this is a 'SPOOF" email, also. When you click on their links, it takes you to really official looking eBay sites, but according to eBay, they are fradulent sites that are copied to look exactly like eBay. And when you click on properties, of the site, it gives you an official looking eBay address...but it is all fradulent.

eBay told me that they will NEVER ask for password or credit card info from a user..EVER!

Just a head's up...If you responded to an email like this, please go and see if you can get into your account, as they may have already changed the password...if you can't get into account, contact eBay, IMMEDIATELY!!!If you can get into your account, change your password, IMMEDIATELY...And please pass this info on to any eBay user that you might know!

Any questions or if you receive a spoof email forward it immediately to spoof@ebay.com

I will now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Geez! I've had enough problems with Ebay itself (they merged my account with someone else's and gave THEM access to my credit card info - had to cancel the card!) - and now this is going on? Grrrr. I hate Ebay. (I know this isn't their fault but they still suck).

I have never even signed up with e-bay or even gone to that site, but I received an email with a subject line "Re: your e-bay account" or something similar. I never opened it up and deleted it right away.

I got an email a about a month ago that purported to be from paypal. It looked SO official. I must give these theives some credit for doing a great job. I cannot remember their reasoning, but they needed my password and my credit card with expiration date, etc. I am thankful that I knew better, but I could not help but wonder how many trusting souls supplied the requested information.

I don't think ebay is to blame - i get stuff from all kinds of places like this. when it comes right down to it, it's pretty basic advice: don't give your cc number, SS number, password, PIN number, etc to anyone. I love ebay (I've even purchased from Laura B!) but always use any online purchase system with caution.

Yup. I actually had my eBay account hijacked because the person figured out my email password ( I wasn't very clever) and they shifted my email and did a lot of nasty stuff. EBay was great and had it all taken care of within 2 days and no real damage was done to my account. But it was scary there for a while!

Yes, I had someone steal my CC # that was used for my ebay account, and they charged a couple of charges totaling about $130.00 on a porn website. It was a debit card and came out of my checking, so I noticed it right away and canceled the card and got a refund. Now I am going to be very careful with my account.
