I am so disturbed by this. Many dogs have been poisoned in a local park and several have died. It appears as though meat was poisoned with an industrial herbacide and left for dogs to ingest.

This makes me so mad. How can some sick and twisted person do this to innocent dogs???!!! My heart goes out to the dog owners who have lost their beloved pets.
I've had experience with the Dove Lewis Emergency Pet Hospital who has treated the dogs who have been poisoned, and they are wonderful. It's a not-for-profit pet hospital devoted to critical and emergency care, and they are open 24/7.

It sure points up the urgent need to be aware of what your dog is doing when you're with him. If he puts something in his mouth, make sure it's something that should be there? If my dog picks up some food while we're walking, I make him drop it.
But the problem with this situation is that it was in a park where dogs were permitted to go off-leash.
What a creep!

This broke my heart. :( I can't believe there are people out there who would do this. I really hope they find the person and lock him/her away for a VERY long time.

I hope they find him/her, too, but the problem is people just don't get punished the same for killing animals. It's sad. I think they should get the same punishment, but most of the time, it's just a misdemeanor...:( :( :(

This is very disturbing.
I try so hard to watch Sam every moment when we're out. He is just so darn quick. And you wouldn't believe what he can hide in his little mouth. He knows he's not supposed to have it so he just quietly carries it home and waits until I'm not looking. Sometimes he doesn't even eat it. Just spits it out on the living room floor as if to say HA. One time I looked at him as we're walking and what has he picked up but an entire slice of pizza. He's got the whole thing shoved into his mouth except the very edge of each side of the crust. I'm like "what have you got" and he's looking around as if to say "what". You can only imagine how disgusting it is to extract something like that from his mouth.

Dove Lewis is amazing. I cannot say enough about them. My family has taken a cat and a dog there to be euthinized (we knew the pets wouldn't make it through the night :() and the people at Dove Lewis were so compassionate. I get tears in my eyes thinking about it. These people really care a lot about pets. We also took our Airdale there for emergency surgery when he was stricken with bloat (gastric dilation). The great people at Dove Lewis were able to take care of Buck (the Airedale) and save his life. Because it happened after normal vet hours, our regular vet probably would not have been able to get him in to surgery in time to save him.

This is very disturbing. :( I'd been following the news closely on this one.
I thought i'd point out that if your dog does eat something that you're concerned about - take a turkey baster and give your dog hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. I had to do this once when my dog ate a dead mouse - snatched and swallowed before I could say "Leave It" (which she often obeys). I suspected the mouse died by poison. Check with your vet's office for dosage for your size dog (and I can also tell you from tortorous personal experience that it takes a lot more pound per pound to make a cat vomit!).
Keep those puppers safe!

On another animal cruelty, I just came across this:
Attacked Show Horses Euthanized (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/07/10/national/main562482.shtml)
An article a week ago implied that the horses were doing better and they were optimistic:

Both of these stories are very disturbing. It is scary to think about how far some people have fallen. I cannot comprehend why anyone would want to torture an animal like this.

I cannot comprehend why anyone would torture an animal of any kind. Why would anyone want to hurt a horse or dog is beyond me.

Yeah, Leisa, I agree with you. I guess I didn't really word my post quite right. I have a hard time even listening to someone yell at an animal...
