We have been invaded by house flies who are hatching in our houseplants. We've moved the plants to the garage and sprayed them with plant-safe bug killer but they are still hatching. Has anyone else ever had this happen? What did you do to kill them off? HELP!

Try soapy water. Mix up some Dawn (or whatever) in a spray bottle with water and spray the plants and dirt with that. I won't promise it will work, but it kills bugs on the leaves.

Kelly -
Just a hint -- if you use Dawn, make sure it's in very weak solution. It definitely works for bugs, but I burnt the leaves off of one of my plants by using too strong of a solution :(
They sell insecticidal soap at most nurseries too -- so if you're hesitant to take any chances, you can pick up a bottle there.
It should work like a charm.

Great - I finally feel like we can do SOMETHING. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the tip. I moved my houseplants outside because of flying bugs a few years ago. I didn't think there was something I could make or buy to spray on them. Unfortunately, some didn't make it through the winter, but others are doing well outdoors.
