We are taking the train to my BIL/SIL's house tomorrow. I have no time to cook but what could I buy to take on a train? We are only going till Sunday. They are fortunate and have just about everything they want. They just got a small boat for the lake, it is a motorboat. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!

How about a bottle or two of some nice wine?

If you have a marine supply store nearby you could get them a log book for the boat - they could record the trips (however small) they go on as well as the guests they have...

A gift certificate to a DIY or boating store might also be appreciated if it's a fixer upper!

No suggestions I'm afraid.

Just wanted to let you know that I STILL can't read.

Thought this thread was titled "Horse gift ideas."

Gail - someone wrote today that her DBF wanted to lose 10-15 lbs. I read that her DBF wanted HER to lose the weight! I was shocked! Then I re-read.

Susan,

I like Molli526's suggestion of a nice bottle of wine. Also, what about a nice flower or house plant to brighten up their new home? Not sure how that will travel with you on a train, but it's an idea.

Susan-

I'm really into decorative, super fancy soaps and lotions recently. They make good gifts for the person with everything because they are thoughtful but just the right amount of frivolous to be a delight.

Do they cook? (Sorry for the stupid, obvious question  )
It's just that even before I cooked, I would sometimes give an excellent olive oil and a bottle of some very special vinegar (local, raspberry, champagne, etc.) for housewarming.
PS: Wow, you're going there on the train? How civilized! :D

I am going to stop in today at a local Marina Shop to see if they have anything, it is a brand new boat. The boat log sounds cool. If not, I think I will go for some cooking things. The olive oil and vinegar were two things I thought would be nice. Whenever we visit them, I try to take something different to say thank you for having us at their house. Since we are all older, it gets tougher to come up with new gifts, we can't buy the wines they like here in PA, but that would be an easy gift to get. Besides buying dinner on Saturday night, we like to give them something that will let them know we appreciate their hospitality.

They live in Conn. and I absolutely can't drive across the Tapanzee Bridge so we can spend the drive time on the train together, no stress. I95 in the summer is a bear, so it is off on the train. Thanks again, appreciate the suggestions. Now if I only got my August issue to read on the train...
