I can't believe it! I've been spending the morning doing filing and came across one of LaraW's threads from a while ago that I printed out and saved, entitled "Disturbing Google Search." When I first read Lara's thread, how someone can type your telephone number into Google and come up with your street address (and even maps on how to get there!) I immediately followed her directions to have it removed from Google. I made a notation on the print-out, date and everything, when I filled out the Google form to have my number removed. It said it would be removed in 48 hours. That was May 9, 2003. So, when I just came across the print-out, just for the heck of it, I went back into Google to make sure all was well, and guess what? It's still there, with the street and city address. And, we specifically removed our street address from the directory two years ago. I am furious. Well, I just filled out the form again, and will keep checking. Is there anything else I can do? Has anyone else filled this form out in Google successfully?
Lara, help!

If you unlist your phone number with the phone company, you will automatically get removed. Anyone can find out who you are and where you live with just your phone number without using google, maybe just not as easily. There are plenty of reverse lookup sites that will give your name and address just with your phone number information. Then the person can type your address into mapquest or any address finder for a map.
I agree that if they have a section that allows you to "unlist" yourself, it should work, but just because you unlist yourself with google doesn't mean you're safe. The best way (IMO) is to unlist yourself with the phone company.
Good luck.

Recently I went to a SuperCuts for a haircut - had never been there before. The girl asked my phone #, she put it in the computer - I'm sure she didnt go through Google. Then she had my name and address.
I also thought I had taken my name off, but when I checked it is still there.

Thank you, Grace.
Actually, our street address is unlisted. It has been unlisted for over two years. We check each new reverse telephone number site that we learn about, and our address is not listed in any of them.
But, it is listed in Google, and I was wondering if someone could help with removing it from Google.
madpots, that's interesting that your info, too, is still at Google even though you removed it. I remember being asked my telephone number at Radio Shack. He doodled at the computer for two seconds and came up with my name and address. I suppose enough people felt so uncomfortable about that, that now you have the option of not giving them your phone number when you want to make a purchase.

For people who are worried about this, depending on where you live your information may be available through the DMV or the tax records of your town. People have the right to know or find out who owns certain properties, etc.
Just remember, we are guaranteed freedom in America but not privacy.

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to
>www.google.com
and type your phone number in the search bar with dashes (I.e.
310-XXX-XXX) and hit enter.
NOTE: If your phone number is not publicly listed, you should be fine.
If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on the telephone icon next to your phone number. You will see a link at bottom of phone book page that says "click here" to remove your listing.
My daughter sent me this message when I was complaining about Google, I am trying it again.

madpots, please let us know if this works for you. I followed this procedure two days ago, and my telelphone number along with my unlisted street address are still there.
