Has anyone used the online grocery ordering systems, like grocerygateway.com? I'd love to hear people's feedback - was the quality good, the groceries fresh, how was the customer service and the big one, did they deliver on time?
Thanks
Julia,
At my hubbys insistence, we tried HomeGrocer.com. It's a wonderful service for those who don't have a lot of time, or those who are homebound. I didn't purchase meats, but got a free bag of produce/fruit. I was impressed with the quality, but still like to touch and feel myself! We enjoyed having it come right to our doorstep. Prices are just okay. I can usually find the things I need on sale or use coupons.
NOTE: My girlfriend plans her meals two weeks in advance and orders everything she needs on homegrocer.com. She loves it! Says the produce and fish are especially fresh!

Hi Julia. I used Shoplink.com for over a year - until they suddenly went out of business. It was fantastic!! I cannot tell you what a time saver it was for us to order the groceries and have them delivered. IT also forced me to really plan my meals for the week. I miss it alot. I am waiting for a new service to take over in my area. The quality was excellent and they stood behind everything. If you were not happy they would credit you. Now I am back to going to the market.... YUCK.

Wow, that was fast! Thanks for the feedback!
I'm going to give it a try this week. It might make things easier for us in the evenings - we stop at the local grocery store on our way home from the train (lousy service and quality) so this might be just the thing. We now live in the suburbs and used to live in the city and just haven't gotten the hang of suburban grocery shopping. We were so spoiled, we could stop at the meat market and green grocers and pick up what we needed, fresh, daily. I think I could do one order on Monday, get fresh meat for Tuesday and Wednesday and use the leftovers for dinners on Thursday and Friday.
Also grocerygateway.com will also deliver beer and wine, so it will definitely be complete.
Rustysmom, could you order from your local grocery store - my grandmother used to be basically housebound and she would just call the store with her list and they would deliver.

I have tried 2 services in the dallas area.
GroceryWorks.com was the worst!! The produce was so-so, customer service not great...they kept making errors in my order and didn't really ever fix it and then didn't remember to credit my credit card back for the products I never received.
HomeGrocer.com on the other hand was terrific!! Their produce was better than what I can get in the stores and everything went really well.

Hi Julia! I use grocerygateway all the time for my Mom - it is fantastic! It is Longos - you prob know that - I live in Unionville - she lives in Markham - it is the best - the time frames are so good and ON time - and much improved since I started using it - have a friend who owns a pool company here and she uses it all the time in the Summer months when they are busy - try it - have you gone to the site - it is like walking through a grocery store - it's really neat! They are most accommodating and very well received in this area.

I've been using webvan for about a year - they're GREAT!! I love them. They have a better selection than the grocery usually, as far as fresh veggies, meat & breads go. They still don't have some of the brands I like for staples, but they add new things everyday.

I placed my first order with grocerygateway.com yesterday and had it delivered today. What a great service! One of the things I find that I like about it is that there is no impulse buying because you're not wandering up and down aisles and throwing things you really don't need into your cart. Skipping the check out line is a great feature too. I'm a definite believer.
