I am making arroz con pollo and the recipe calls for Achiote seeds. Can I use saffron instead? Thanks for any advice.

I did some checking; achiote seeds are used primarily for color, though they do have a sort of earthy bitterness, per the description. I'd suggest substituting turmeric (which has saffron's color, has a bit of a bitter taste, and is a heck of a lot cheaper than saffron)

You can also use Sazon Goya con culantro and achiote or SAzon Goya with azafran (saffron);)
