Goodmorning everyone. It is absolutely beautiful here this morning. I live East of downtown and the sun was shining bright orange off all of the bldgs., it was quite pretty. Or maybe it's because I drove in by myself and didn't have to listen to DH='s politico statements!:D :p :o
I had the usual hazelnut this AM and I am wishing I had just a smidge more.
Anyway we are having another one of our Happy Hour parties tonight. The theme is Christmas in July. I'm sure the new neighbors I noticed moving in yesterday are going to think we're whacked! Oh well I'm pretty sure all the other ones already think that.
Other than that we don't have any plans. The weather is supposed to be pretty nice tomorrow so maybe a little yard work. Maybe not.
How about you?

Good Morning Peggy!
I think your party sounds like a bunch of fun! The only thing your new neighbors will be thinking is "I wish they would invite us over". :)
I with my water this morning. I am also going to make a chocolate milk in a minute. I am really trying to consume my calcium rather than supplement.
Not much with us this weekend.
Saturday we will stop and see our friends' new baby. She is just precious - I saw her at less than 24 hours :) That is on the way to my brother and SIL's where they are having a BBQ.
I might try to get to the Farmer's Market and get more berries. I got some really good Michigan blueberries last week.

Good Morning. Today's coffee is Starbucks Guatemalan Antiqua (don't check that spelling :D)
Well, it's really my Thursday. I was off Monday and I work tomorrow. But, I'm off all next week. We don't have many plans. We're taking a vacation at home. :D I may take the girls to the Zoo or a water park. I still have to work Wednesday night and I have a Dr appointment Tuesday. Maybe I'll get some work done on the door. That way I can hide the paint from Mariel. She was painting (well, priming) the molding on the kitchen door Wednesday night. She got to the paint while DH was getting Ginger out of the car. OOPS!
Have fun at your party Peggy. Sounds like fun to me.
Leigh
Good morning!
Peggy- have a good time at your party! Sounds like fun!
Molli- have fun visiting your friends and at the BBQ
Hi to Leigh too!
Not too much planned here. I have another sonogram scheduled this morning and that's about it. DH is taking the day off to start replacing part of our roof to get the house in shape to put on the market. DD and I will probably go swimming since it's supposed to be gorgeous out today. We've had rain every day this week, so the break in the weather is welcome!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Uh oh Leigh are you going to be off next friday? I mean from the klatch?
I need to submit that long document which most of have not read....as I need next friday off also. I might beable to stop in, but I have the day off and I won't likely sit on the computer for 9 solid hours.
Molli what are you going to make with those berries?

Hi guys!
Peggy, have fun at your party! Sounds like such a great time. What will you be serving for Christmas in July? :) And, more importantly, can I come? Please?? ;)
Oh, and I hear you on the politico statements; I laughed when I read that!! When I used to drive in to work with my husband, he liked to listen to the news in the morning, and sometimes he'd start talking about it. I usually enjoy talking about world affairs with him, but not at 7 AM, darn it!! No geopolitics before coffee -- that's my rule! :p
Molli,
Enjoy the BBQ! Good to hear about the yummy berries. I saw Ontario wild blueberries for the first time at yesterday's farmers' market, but didn't buy any. I'll buy some tomorrow when I go to the bigger market in town, though. I love blueberries - they're the best! :D
Leigh,
Vacations at home can be the best kind sometimes IMHO! Enjoy!
Sue,
Glad to hear that the weather shaped up for the weekend. :) Have a fantastic time!
Well, we picked up our car yesterday night and it is so fun!! :) I'm excited now that I've had the chance to have a decent night's sleep (it was a pretty hectic week). I was going to sleep a little bit later today, since I'm working a short day and from home, but the painters came at the crack of dawn to do our doors. I'm glad that they're punctual, and they seem very nice, but it was a bit jarring. Oh well! I'm glad the painting will be done soon. ]
Hi to everyone else who posted while I was posting!
This weekend I'm planning to go bike riding with my husband, do a long (for me) run, go to the farmers' market, socialize with a couple of friends (not sure what exactly yet) and see my mom and take her for a country drive in the new car. :) Oh, and catch up on some rest!!!

I will probably just eat them plain or in cereal. When they are fresh, local and good, I like them naked :)
Sue, have fun at your ultrasound. Are you going to find out the sex of the baby? I bet your DD really wants to know :)
Molli- we wanted to know this time what we were having. I did have amnio in May, so it's definitely another girl. I don't think DD cared what she got - as long as she has someone younger to boss around! :) I told her she's going to see a picture of her sister today, but now I'm thinking that she's probably expecting a picture like a Polaroid or something, instead of the fuzzy sonogram picture!

Good morning everyone! :)
A beautiful morning here too - I love these summer days when it's not oppressively hot or humid, but just right.
A little of this and a little of that for us this weekend. We've had so much rain the weeds in my planting beds are growing at an alarming rate - better do something about that before they overtake the shrubs .
I'm also hoping to get the Arts & Crafts Show on the green in Old Saybrook this weekend - lots of watercolors, photography, pottery, etc. We've picked up some nice pieces there in the past.
I won't be klatching the next two Fridays either - we'll be sightseeing in Portland (OR) and hiking in the Columbia River Gorge area.
Peggy - Have fun at your Christmas in July party! Be sure to post how your appetizers went, and I'm sure your neighbors don't think you're looney - just invite them too ;).
Molli - Enjoy that new baby, and let us know what you make with those berries :).
Leigh - Enjoy your vacation at home next week. Zoo or waterpark sounds great to me! :D
Sue - Have fun swimming! I am in awe of your DH, replacing part of the roof. My DH is handy, but not that handy :p.
Natasha - Enjoy your new car! :)

I'm not planning on skipping the Klatch, but we don't know what we will be doing.
Sue,
Have fun at your Sonogram. I always enjoyed those. I just saw your second message. Ginger absolutely loved seeing Mariel in the sonogram. She was 3 at the time. She talked about 'her baby' for days. How old is your DD?
Natasha,
Yup, this time we won't need a vacation to recover from our vacation. :D Sounds like you've got a fun weekend planned. What kind of car, did you join the Saturn Cult with Stephanie? :D
Molli,
Enjoy your blueberries. The ones we picked weren't very good. They just weren't sweet. I made some into a cobbler and added extra sugar. I had to toss it becuase it was too bitter. *pout* Oh, and have fun at the BBQ and visiting the new baby.

Morning, everyone!
Leigh - Enjoy your time off! Jim sent the box off this morning, so you should have it by mid next week. Thanks for your patience!
Natasha - Aren't new cars fun?? Enjoy your weekend - it sounds like a lot of fun.
Peggy - have a great time at your party! And who knows - your new neighbors may join you next time! :D
Molli - Yum. You now have me thinking of chocolate milk. Do you use syrup or Quik?
Sue - Good luck with the sonogram, and have fun swimming! We're having GLORIOUS weather here too!
We have a party tomorrow night with our neighborhood association (neighbors we actually like!) - that'll take the majority of the day. Sunday I need to start packing for vacation.
Uh - that reminds me - I need written permission to be absent from the next two klatches. Yikes - I'm gonna miss a lot!! :o ;) :D
Happy Friday, everyone!

LOL! :D :D
Leigh- DD is almost 7 1/2 now, so she's pretty psyched about the baby. I took her to my last app so she could hear the heartbeat. She ended up being the most impressed w/the fact that I had to pee in a cup before I saw the doctor! :)

Good Morning <deep breath> Peggy, Molli, Sue, Leigh, Natasha, Sandy, and Kathryn! (Did I get everyone? Thank goodness it's still page one!)
Had some coffee on the back porch with mom and dad this morning. I'll be headed back to Columbus before noon - have to work tonight. I have 3 projects (finals, basically) due on Monday morning, so I'll be busy all weekend. Hockey game on Sunday night will provide a nice study break, but our team's goalie is showing some signs of flirting, and we're tentatively supposed to go out after the game. (Problem: I can't shower after the game since women change in the birthday party room at the rink  )
I must work so I can go out with the boy! :D

Good morning, I'm up early today!! :)
Peggy, have fun at your party tonight!
Natasha, I might have missed something - did you get a new car?
Kathryn, have a great time in Oregon - it's beautiful there this time of year!
Sandy, have fun on your vacation! August must be a popular time of year to go away.
Hi, Molli, Leigh, Sue, and Mary Kate!
I am having an overwhelming week. For starters, I've been working like a dog. Why is it that you have to work 100 times harder than usual to go on vacation, and then 100 times harder than usual when you get back?? Anyway, between that, exercising, and sleeping, I haven't had much time for anything else.
Two big news flashes at our house this week, both involving BILs. BIL1, who has been in Iraq (he's in the military) since early March, came home last night!!! We're all so relieved that he's back. I'm not sure when we will get to see him, as he lives in Arizona, but BIL2 drove to Baltimore last night to meet his plane. I'm sure his wife and kids can't wait to see him - they're waiting back in AZ, where he should arrive sometime today.
BIL3 is moving in with us. He lives in Denver right now, but to make a very long story short, he's finally moving back to Texas, and wants to be in Austin. DH will be flying up there next weekend, while I'm gone, to help him load up a truck and drive it down. I'm not sure how long we'll be with us, but I suspect it might be quite some time. It will take some adjusting, but we are excited to have him. So by the time I get back from vacation, there will be another body living in my house! :o
Yeah, that's about all I could handle this week. Tonight will be a cooking frenzy so that DH can have edible, healthy food while I'm gone for the next 9 days. MIL is also away, so I'm making extras to take down to FIL on Saturday. The men in DH's family are obviously pretty helpless when the women are away. Tomorrow is his niece's 8th birthday party, so we'll drive down there for a little bit just to make an appearance and drop off a gift. Because then I still need to shop and pack for my trip. Sunday, I'm on a plane to Oregon!!!
:D
Happy Friday to anyone who posted while I was typing this, and to everyone who comes later!

I wake up early when I'm with mom and dad. I went out with a (guy!) friend last night for drinks, so if I wanted to see them, I HAD to wake up and do coffee. (Caffeine buzz! Wheeeee! 3 posts in 10 minutes, on the same thread? Oh YEAH caffeinated MK.)
Anyway, I was home to work on a phonics project: I needed to find a kid who was learning to read. I didn't feel right about approaching a child in, say, the library, playground, or street and asking "Wanna do a little phonics?" :p All my Columbus-kid contacts fell through, so I came home to work with my little cousin. She's a little goober. One test is basically "Write down all the words you know." She went through a short list, and couldn't think of more, so she started to look around the room. She started to copy titles from books, so I hid those. She moved on to MY text books, so I covered those up. Then she started writing "H-I-O" before I realized she was copying the words on my Ohio State t-shirt. :)
At the very least, I can report that she understands the concept of a word. :D

Kathryn, you always seem to have such fun weekends. The Arts & Crafts show sounds good to me. Enjoy your vacation, too!! :)
Leigh, yup, I've joined the Subaru Cult   with Stephanie. Scary, eh?
Sandy, enjoy your party! You must be getting really psyched about your vacation by now!
MK, good luck with your projects, with the game, and with the goalie (not necessarily in that order) ;) You always seem to meet interesting people. Please let us know how it goes!
Sue, that's cute that your daughter is so excited about the baby.

I have some bad news. I'm going to need to shut down the computer for a little while. My boss actually gave me project to do. It won't take long, but I probably should just get it done.:(
Sue have fun swimming. Do you go to a city pool or a neighborhood one? When I was your dtrs. age I used to spend hours and hours at the city pool. Literally I'd only come home for dinner. I was prune from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I know I'm sounding like an old fogey, but it's sad that it isn't safe for kids to go by themselves anymore. I usually end up calling in sick one day during the summer to go swimming with my sister and nieces.
Kathryn have fun at the art show. It sounds great, is the whole thing outdoors? Have fun Oregon....actually every one that's going to be vacationing have a great time! I want details since I won't be going anywhere for awhile...I need to live vicariously through all of you.
Natasha I feel exactly the same way you do. I don't mind talking about it, but for goodness sake does it have to be before dawn and must it ALWAYS be the same topic? (ok one of several repeaters) I think I might 'try' instituting the not before java rule. Oh and I'll pm you my address, how long a drive do you think it is?;)
Sandy you're bad!:p Oh I just read further, Mk you're bad too! So is the goalie saucy?:D

I have been MIA for most of the summer, but that's because I'm MOVING!! I was offered a great new job in a small community about two hours north of Milwaukee, and so I've been consumed with those pesky details associated with that!
Our weather here this week has been great, although the heat and humidity will be building up starting today, I guess. DS is in a tennis tournament this weekend -- he invited two friends to sleep over last night (and the house is being shown this morning at 9!) and I'm sure he'll be trashed. Oh well....I've been being very nice to him because he's being fairly mature and stoic about this move. Changing schools as he's entering high school is not exactly the best situation, but, oh well....
Gotta go -- will check back in with y'all later.

Good morning all!
Sounds like lots of <ahem> klatch absences coming up- but for such good reasons! A lot of vacation and time off coming up- how nice.
GASP! Peggy- a project? On a Friday? How dare your boss do such a thing! :p Your Christmas in July party does sound like fun- your new neighbors will be jealous.
Congratulations Natasha on the new car! So when is the Subaru cult initiation ceremony? Maybe we can be inducted together...
Eva, I'm so glad your BIL is home safely. And wow, a new housemate! It's great that you and Che can offer BIL3 your hospitality as he makes the move to a new state.
Mary Kate, I used to walk up a BIG hill to get to campus each day- great exercise but felt like I needed a second shower by the time I got to my office, and it was only 9AM! I found those body wipes (Dove and others make them) to be a great thing to keep in my bag. At the very least they make you feel and smell a bit fresher. Maybe you could use those after hockey? No fair that goalie-guy can shower and you can't!!
This is the end of a cruddy week for me- I'm so glad it's Friday. I mentioned on another thread that one of my clients is letting a bunch of staff go- I know this but the people being let go do not, and I don't know when they're finding out. I'm supposed to carry on as if it wasn't going to happen- so Weds. I had a "long-term planning" meeting with people whose long-term may only last for another 3 days. Now I'm working at home and every time there's a lull in e-mail I wonder if it's because they've found out they're getting fired.
Oh, and Gertie (our dog) has pinkeye. Lovely. Poor puppy.
So I am SO ready for the weekend. Our plans include the farmer's market this afternoon, going to see Seabiscuit, and MAYBE a trip to the shore, which we haven't done yet this summer. It's supposed to be quite hot tomorrow. We'll see!

I make my chocolate milk with Midnight Moo syrup from TJ's and a little malted milk powder. I am just to the point where plain milk isn't very good :o
MK,
Nice to see you up this morning. Cute about your cousin. She was really trying to impress you. Have you checked out the Dove body refreshers or whatever they are called? I have used them a couple of times and the work pretty good.

Good morning everyone! I am stuck at home waiting for a new refrigerator to be delivered this morning, so thought I would take the opportunity to pop on and say hi. DS is at camp until 1, and DD and I are going to *try* to clean the house. It's always interesting (and slow;) ) when I have her help, although she does a pretty good job dusting baseboards. I need to get through a ton of laundry too, because the kids are leaving tomorrow to go spend a week with my in-laws. I'm going to paint our bedroom while they are gone. We got all new bedding in February, and I still haven't painted yet:o *If* it doesn't rain this afternoon I think we will go to the pool.
Eva, that is great news about your BIL coming home. You sound remarkably calm about your other BIL living with you! I don't think I could do that unless it was for a set period of time. We had various family members staying with us for most of the summer while DH was in the hospital and then on 3x/week outpatient treatments, and it about drove me nuts!
Leigh, enjoy your vacation at home. I would love to do that, but it is hard enough to get DH to take time off if we are going away. The few times we have tried to take a vacation at home he has wound up going to the office every day! Are you getting ready for Ginger to start kindergarten? I can't believe school starts in only two weeks.
I can't keep up with everyone, but hi!

Claire,
Oh, I get that kind of help all the time.
DH isn't taking off the whole week. I think he'll work Monday and Tuesday, although he's going to watch the girls while I go the GYN. I'd rescheduled, but I scheduled the visit 2 months ago.
Hopefully we'll be able to get some work done on the front door too.
Enjoy redoing your bedroom, and enjoy your child free week.
Well, we're excited for Ginger. She's thrillled to be going to the big kid school. I doubt I'll cry, I didn't at Pre-K graduation. She's doing pretty well. Right now we're working on being ready to head to daycare at the same time she'll have to head to the bus stop. We're going to get her an alarm clock this weekend and work on having her get up and dressed herself.
How is DH doing?
Eva,
That's nice that you are letting your BIL live with you. *DUH* On the one coming home from Iraq too! :o

Eva - that's awesome about your BIL coming home from Iraq! Good luck with the other situation. Sometimes things go way easier than I anticipate them to - hoping this is much the same for you! :)
Claire - new fridge - that's exciting stuff! What a geek I am..... what kind did you get? We looked at refrigerators at The Great Indoors last weekend (we're not buying - we were just browsing). It astounded me that you can actually pay $8000 for a refrigerator....:o Oh, but to have one like that..... :D
Stephanie - I'm sorry to hear about Gertie! I hope that clears up soon.

Thanks guys for commiserating with me. But the good news is the project is done.
Oh MK you should have told me. I could have hooked you up with a 7yo columbus kid. I actually know a couple. But coffee on the porch with the units sounds nice. And a date to boot.
I should say I've invited most of the neighbors, hopefully they'll all atleast stop by.
Jackie congrats on the new job. Have you found a new house in the new city? If so what is it like?
Hi Claire, glad you could join us today. That's a cute story about your dtr helping you clean. I used to love to help my grandma (we called her gram) dust. Whish I could muster up that enthusiasm now. What kind of fridge did you get? I'm lusting after the freezer on the bottom type of unit.
Stephanie sorry to hear about gertie. Do you have to put drops in her eyes? Is that horrible to do? I couldn't imagine. I have enought to do with Otis between his floppy ears, his allergies and baths. If I had to mess with his eyes I fear the poor guy would never come near me again. Hope she feels better soon. Also sorry about the cruddy week. We laid off 2 people yesterday and I knew before they did, fortunately it was only minutes, but I didn't care for that feeling at all.
Ok I think I over ordered on the cut out cookies my co-worker made (they are beautiful btw) so I think I'm going carrolling on break to deliver some to the girls that relieve me for my breaks.

Leigh, DH is doing much better, thanks for asking. What time does Ginger have to get to the bus stop? Ours comes at 7:10, which I thought was really early until I realized we are about 1/2-way through the route. Some of the kids get picked up as early as 6:45:eek:
The fridge is not exciting at all. I had a cheap one on the back porch (we don't have a garage) for extra storage space, and it died a few months ago. I have just been looking for a good deal on another one. This is just very basic, freezer on top, no ice maker or anything, but it gives me the space I need. I got it at the Sears scratch and dent, since it is going to get beat up pretty quickly out on the porch anyway. DH cannot understand why we need 2 refrigerators, but I know you guys do:D
Peggy, the sad thing is I still get that enthusiasm about cleaning sometimes! I am such a geek, but I love the feeling of a freshly-cleaned house, and I love the fact that I can really feel like I accomplished something fairly quickly.

Alright - I'm ready to Klatch.
Morning all! Today I'm going to finish pitting cherries so that I can freeze them for pies. I put up 6 half pints and 6 quarter-pints of cherry jam last night. I'll pick raspberries on my way up north today, and make raspberry jam and raspberry champagne jam. Mmmmmm. Most of my weekend, however, will be spent on the boat, practicing my waterskiing. I'm really not good.
Have a good one!

Christmas in July... caroling in July... why not? :D Or you could always just package up the cookies and send them to me.
We do have to put medication in Gertie's eye, but it is a cream. It comes in a tube that lets us easily dispense a thin line of it across her eye and she doesn't seem to mind. The vet said that the cream is cool and soothing- Gertie seems to "get" that it's helping her. I can already see improvement over last night- yesterday her sad little face was soaked with eye goo and her eye was just deep red. Today there isn't any discharge and I am beginning to see the white of her eye under all that red. I think she'll be fine within a day or so. For now we just have to keep her away from other dogs- wouldn't want to transmit the infection.

Vlad had pinkeye once. You need to be careful too. You can get it from your pets, it's one of the few transferrable diseases.

Good morning everyone!
I can't believe I am klatching before 10:00 my time. My sister called me a little while ago and woke me up. Oh well.
Sue, have fun at the sonogram. We had ours about 3 weeks ago and it was so fun to see that little peanut (once we found out she was OK - I should say we don't know if its a boy or girl but have been calling the baby "she" for some reason.). We got some pictures from that as well. That is too funny about DD being the most impressed about having to pee in a cup.
Eva, that is great about your BIL coming home! I bet his family can't wait to see him. Good luck with the other BIL too - hey, if they need to have a place to eat while they are still in Denver, send them over to my house.
Leigh, have fun on your vacation at home. Those are often the best kinds of vacations.
Stephanie, sorry to hear about your bad week. I don't like knowing that kind of information that people are going to be losing their jobs, unfortunately since I work in HR, I know a lot of stuff before it becomes common knowledge.
Sandy, have fun on your upcoming vacation. Where are you going?
Peggy, I think your party sounds like a lot of fun! Can I come? ;)
We actually have a fairly busy weekend planned. We are refinancing our house, and we close on that today at noon. Its nice because we are closing at DH's office, and so we're going to have lunch before our meeting. Then this afternoon I have an appt to get my hair cut and colored. I am really in need of a haircut - I was supposed to have it last week but I had to reschedule because I went to Chicago to visit my grandparents.
Tomorrow and Sunday will be getting ready for the garage sale we are having next weekend. Hopefully that will go smoothly and we will get rid of a lot of stuff (read: junk we never should have moved in the first place).
Happy Friday everyone! :)

You're so sweet, Lara! :) Unfortunately, I think it will be a pretty mad rush for them to get on the road. DH and his friend fly in EARLY Friday morning, which is also BIL's last day of work (so he won't be around to help much). DH and friend will pick up the 26-foot U-Haul truck and car transport, and they'll head to BIL's third floor apartment  to start loading. Hopefully BIL will already be packed. :o But DH has class on Monday that he can't miss, so they will have to get things moving and get on the road ASAP to be back by Sunday evening or Monday morning. I'm soooooooo glad it's not me!!!

Yikes, that is a tight schedule, Eva! Unfortunately, those kinds of things always take longer than you think they are going to. When we were moving out here from Iowa, we were loading our truck and wondering if we were going to be able to leave on the day we had planned or if we were going to have to wait another day. We ended up loading our truck until about 2:00 am and then were up and on the road by 8:00.
How long of a drive is it to Austin? If I remember right, you BIL is in Littleton? If so, that will be good because they will be south of Denver and so will hopefully miss a lot of the traffic we would have because we live north of Denver.

Hi everyone! And Happy Friday! This week has been SOOOO SLLOOOOOWWW for me, so I am very relieved that it's almost over.
Sounds like some fun, relaxing weekends are planned! Leigh, I think a vacation at home sounds like a lot of fun with the girls! MK, have fun playing hockey and on your DATE! Peggy, have loads of fun at your Xmas in July party - I think it sounds like a blast! Eva, that is so great about BIL1 coming home... I knew he was on his way, but how great to have him back on American soil! And best of luck with Llando's move! Lara, best of luck with the garage sale! And hello to Sue, Molli, Sandy, Bethany, Stephanie, Claire, <deep breath> Jackie, Natasha, and Kathryn!!! :D
Tonight DH and I are making a quick trip to San Antonio to help one of his friends celebrate his 30th birthday a week late. It should be fun, though. Tomorrow we'll get back in the afternoon, and then we're going over to our friends' house to watch their baby while they have a date. They don't get very many opportunities to go out just the two of them, and I am CRAZY about their little boy (he's almost 8 months old and is a TRIP!) so that will be a lot of fun. Plus they have a big screen TV and a huge DVD collection. :D
Ya'll keep my DH in your thoughts, if you don't mind. And me too for that matter. We work for the same company, and our company is about to go through some major layoffs. DH is in finance operations, and is on the team that is having to figure out office closings, layoff numbers, etc... something that has kept him at work until 9 or 10 every night for the past 2 1/2 weeks and is very emotionally draining. I can't even worry about my job, even though I have no idea if I will have a job in two weeks, because I am so worried about him and these hours. :( Thanks.
But I don't want to be a downer... it's FRIDAY!! :D :D

Good morning all! I got a late start this morning (had some work out of the office to do) - I was sure we'd be on page 3 by now. Looks like everyone - well, except caffeinated Mary Kate - might be running a little slow this morning.
Anyway, this weekend's a slow one for me. DBF and I are headed down the shore late tonight to spend the next two days on the beach as usual. Tomorrow night we're babysitting my cousin while my aunt and uncle go party at some beach house that their friends won for a week in a local auction. Sounds pretty cool - but we have more fun playing with my cousin anyway :)
We still have a few things we need to buy for the new place. They just opened a new TJ Maxx 'And More' store down the shore - it's really nice. We planned on going last weekend but got there 15 minutes after closing on Sunday. Hopefully we'll make more time this weekend. Though my list of things we need keeps getting longer and longer!
Helene - Welcome back and congratulations again!
Peggy - Good luck with your party, and don't forget to enjoy yourself!
Stephanie - I'm sorry about your rough week. Do you know how much longer you'll have to keep that burdensome information to yourself?
Mary Kate - I know it's work, but I'm jealous of your 'project' (see mention above about my cousin) - your cousin sounds adorable!
Sandy, Leigh, and Kathryn - Enjoy your vacations!
Jackie - Congratulations on the new job and the move (from another recent mover). Glad to see you back.
Bethany - I definitely could use some water-skiing practice too. I think it's been over three years since my last (unsuccessful) attempt, and now I'm a little embarrassed to try with DBF around (though I still love tubing!). I was pretty good when I was younger though - honest ;)
And hello and Happy Friday to everyone else!

Eva I'm so glad to hear about your BIL's safe return. Are you traveling for business? Or are you taking a solo vacation?
Lara how was Chicago?
Bethany...at least you CAN water ski. I have never ever been successful at it. And it is something I have so desperately wanted to do. I went on a house boat trip with my sister and a bunch of her friends once and one of the guys made it his goal to get me skiing before the end of the trip. He'd wake me up early every morning before everyone else and we'd go way out in the middle of the lake, but I was never able to stand...I think it had more to do with my upper body strength (or lack of) than anything. Stephanie I'm glad that admistering the cream isn't a hard task. Otis is pretty good about his ears now, I think that they get a good scratch when I'm working on them. He kind of leans into it.

He's actually in Englewood now (but you're right, he did used to be in Littleton), but I think that's still south, right? It's about 16-17 hours to Austin, but probably more than that with a 26-foot U-Haul that's towing a car behind it. I think they're planning for 20 hours, but between three people splitting driving, they should be able to make it in one long haul. I can't say it enough: I'm soooooo glad it's not me!! :p
Peggy, my trip is purely for pleasure. :D It was supposed to be DH and I, to go back and visit friends in Oregon and see some of the sites and do some of the things we missed when we lived there, but he bailed early on because of school. Turns out now it was a good decision, since he's now available to help his brother move. Still, it will be kinda weird to be on vacation for 9 days alone. :(
Rebecca, thoughts and hugs going out y'all's way. I can only imagine how stressful your life (and Charles'!) must be right now. Regardless of what happens with the whole restructuring, I hope it's over soon.
Jackie, congratulations on your new job!

I can relate, Peggy. I tried waterskiing for the first time a few weekends ago, and I couldn't get up. :( I gave it 5 solid attempts, and on the 3rd, I was sooooooo close. I was up on my feet and moving forward, but still squatted down pretty far. I just couldn't get my knees straightened. DH blames it on the driver (not him!), the weak little boat, and the ancient skis, but everybody else still managed to do it (of course, they had all skied before). I think he might have just been trying to make me feel better. I want to try again, because I'm determined to do it!! I really want to give wakeboarding a try, but not until I can get up on skis first.

Wow, it's been a busy morning. I've managed to get a good deal of writing done so far, thankfully -- and managed to concentrate while the painter did the second-floor window trim right outside the home office. And no, he's not at all saucy -- he's one of those self-proclaimed comedians who really isn't very funny! He's done now, though.
Rebecca, hugs and good wishes to you and your husband!!! I know how draining those long hours can be, and hope all goes well. Enjoy San Antonio! :)
Claire, congrats on the new fridge! How fun.
Peggy, your menu sounds sooooooo good!! Don't be so sure that I won't take you up on that invite! ;) Cleveland is only about 6 hours away! ;) And then I could see The O Man in person (or in dog). Hmm...getting seriously tempted now!! :p
Eva, wow, you are calm about your BIL coming to stay. I'm impressed. I hope you have a fantastic vacation in Oregon. Yes, we got a new car last night and now are looking forward to the cult induction with Stephanie. Stephanie, yes, I think we should be able to be inducted together! I'll bring a bottle of wine if you want to bring munchies, or vice versa. ;)
Back to work I go. I may not be back for a while (or may not be back on the klatch at all today), so have a great weekend, all! Helene, welcome back!!!! I am saving reading your post about Victor for when I have more time. :)

I've been trying since I was about ... 9, when my aunt and uncle got their first boat. A good boat makes all the difference in the world. We finally got a boat of our own last year, and it rocks. That first yank can really get you out of the water. I can get up (most of the time) but can't do anything fancy. I just get pulled along behind the boat, smiling and hanging on for dear life!

Eva, yes, Englewood is still south of Denver, so that is good. I don't blame you for being glad that you're not included in this project! Your trip to Oregon sounds so much better! :)
Peggy, Chicago was OK. I am glad I went, but it was really hard to see my Grandpa in the nursing home. He can't get out of bed at all, can't really move and can't talk. He was asleep for a lot of the time I was there, but when I got there on Saturday, he saw me and his eyes seemed to brighten so I know he recognized me. I told him about the baby and his eyes got all big again, so that was good. I was not really impressed with the care he was getting though. It seemed like my Grandma really had to get on the staff about turning him when he was supposed to be turned, and she said that she has been bathing him because they don't do it (at least not to her standards). His mouth is also really bad - imagine if you did not brush your teeth for 2 months and how crusty etc, your mouth would be. That was how it was. :(
I am actually almost more concerned about my Grandma. Their household has been so split their entire married life that she now has to do things she has never had to do before like pay bills, get someone to mow the lawn, she even had to learn how to put gas in the car since she had never done it. Plus, this steady stream of family who has been coming into town I am sure has been hard on her because she has a lot of laundry to do every time someone leaves. Before I left I stripped my bed and put the sheets in to wash so that she did not have to worry about it, but then she irons her sheets before making up the bed. I did not have time to do that before I had to leave to come home.
I don't know if I will be able to go back when he passes away - once I'm into the 3rd trimester I will have to get permission from my dr. before I'm allowed to fly (I've already checked with the airlines) and it is a 16 hour drive for me - too much to do by myself. We'll just have to play it by ear and see what happens.

Hi all! It's so hard to catch up with everyone when I join so late. I had a meeting this morning for a United Way committee I'm on.
Jackie, congrats on the job!
I've never even been water-skiing before. It's one of those things I've always wanted to try though. Maybe some day. I will see that I tried surfing once (took a lesson in Hawaii) and loved it.
I've got Supper Club tonight. We're doing a lemon theme. Should be interesting. I think we're starting off the evening with homemade Lynchburg Lemonade, so it's bound to be a good time.;) :p
The good news here is that our basement family room is FINALLY re-modeled. You all may remember that it flooded in March when the snow started to melt, and has been in disarray ever since. I had a waterproofing system installed, and just had the whole thing remodeled (re-drywalled, new sliding glass door, etc). They just finished up this week, so we are going to be spending all weekend putting our house back in order. DH is moving his computer and desk down there, so I get my office back! I can't wait.

About waterskiing... I've been once. I got up (sort of). We had a boat when I was little and my parents waterskiied. Well, one day dad got two slolam skis. I stood in front, and he stood in the back. :D That's it, I haven't been on skis since. I have this thing about swimming in water that animals live in.

Lara, it must have been so hard to see your grandpa in the nursing home. DH's grandpa just passed away after several months of nursing care following a stroke and it was so difficult for DH and his mom to see him in that setting. His family is now going through something similar with his grandma- she is refusing help and last week was caught CLIMBING ONTO THEIR ROOF to clean out a gutter.   I'm so sorry that your family is dealing with this too. :(
((((((Rebecca and DH))))))- what a tough situation, especially with both of you working there.
I have never successfully waterskied either. I did manage to do a flip once, not on purpose. And once when I was twelve, I had a lesson where a male instructor was going to ski with me. But before we really got started I apparently kicked my heel back, and my ski struck the instructor in a, um, sensitive place. The lesson did not continue. :o

(((Rebecca and DH))) I know it such a stressful time. Do you feel like your positions are safe? Aren't you thinking about starting your own business? Are you ready to proceed with that yet?
Kristin your trip to the shore sounds great. Have a good time...what kind of stuff are you looking for for the new place?
Natasha I'm surprised the O man isn't on here begging you to come visit him. He must be resting up for the party tonight.
Eva, that actually makes me feel better. You are definitely more athletic than I'll ever be so hearing that you can't ski either is comforting. Maybe one day everything will align for me (and you too) and we'll beable to do it. Ok now explain wakeboarding to me. (please)
Lara I'm sorry to hear about the quality of your Grandpa's care. If you feel comfortable doing it, contact the social worker at the nursing home and voice your concerns with them. They should beable to help. Also they do quarterly care reviews that the family should be invited to (I know you can't make it) but maybe another family member should accompany your Grandma. She may not want to be a "bother" and isn't speaking up. AND if she is more power toher! My exp. with some people for that generation is to just accept things as they are. I certainly don't mean for anyone to over rule or step on your grandma's toes...she might not like her independence being taken from her, but she might want help and not know how to ask for it.
I'm not sure what to say about the extra work she has to do at home, but if it were me I'd be making some calls to the family members who are staying with her on and off to help her out that it isn't a hotel. But I'm not against being alienated and called bad names for awhile if it will help someone else.:p
Susan are you making that sugar snap pea recipe? Yes I was lurking on that thread...for the life of me the only lemony side dish I could think of was tabbouli.

My grandma is really independent like that too. I had hoped to do something to help out like make some meals or something, but when I got there I remembered that I am not allowed to open the refrigerator  or any cabinet that is not the one where she keeps the water glasses, so cooking was pretty limited under those circumstances.
I'm sorry your family is going through this as well. I hope your DH's grandma has a lot of family support around. My parents are a 5 hour drive away, and my dad's brother is a little further than that, maybe 7 hours, so it makes it hard since they can't just drop by.

Wakeboarding is like snowboarding on water. I hated skiing when I tried it, but fell in love with snowboarding. I think it's something about your legs moving independently on skis that gave me problems. Anyway, I thought the same rationale applied to waterskiing and wakeboarding - that I didn't have to know how to waterski before I could try wakeboarding - but lots of people say that's not the case. So they've convinced me that I need to be able to ski first. But I secretly think I could wakeboard. ;) :p

LOL, she is definitely a squeaky wheel! I think a big problem there is that they have a lot of patients and not enough staff. She's like me though, where she wants everything "just so" and if it isn't she complains.
I am glad I got to tell him about the baby too. I am just sad that he will probably not be able to meet him/her. My Mom has a picture at home of her, my grandma (her mom) and her grandpa (her mom's dad) and me at about 2 years old. So there are 4 generations in that picture. I was hoping to have something similar with our baby - with DH and me, both my parents and both my grandparents. I know I can still do it with my grandma, but I was hoping to have all of us.
Well, ladies, I need to run. I am meeting DH for lunch in 45 min, and I still need to shower. We're closing on our refinance after lunch. Then I have to go and get my hair cut. That will feel so GOOD! :)

Eva, is it sort of like slalom waterskiing? I grew up near a lake and waterskiied a lot, and I always thought it was easier to slalom than to ski on 2 skis for exactly the same reason -- having my legs move independently required more coordination than I have:o ). If wakeboarding is similar they are probably using the rationale that everybody learns to ski on 2 first, but I don't see any harm in trying it!

Lara, I'm sorry your grandfather isn't doing well, but I'm glad you got to see him and tell him about the baby. Would your grandmother be more willing to accept paid help instead of help from family members? If so, is there any way people could chip in $$ to get her the help she needs?

I think so, except that instead of one foot in front of the other, both facing forward, they're side by side and facing either left or right, just like on a snowboard. DH says slalom skiing is easier, but getting UP on a slalom ski is harder than getting up on two skis, which is why he thinks it would be hard for me to get up on a wakeboard if I can't even get up on skis. I'm bound and determined to prove him wrong. :p Of course, after my waterskiing failure, he might be right after all.

I feel the same way now, even though I grew up in a house on a lake and water skiied all the time while I was in high school!
I've probably only been on skis twice in the last 20 years, though. It wasn't the same experience as an adult -- my legs felt like rubber after just a quick spin around the lake.
Thanks for all the good wishes on my new job. I am so psyched about it -- just dreading the moving part, but I have a great relocation assistance package, so the real drugery will be done by someone else! :D
Did I mention that DS has only made three demands as a result of the move? We have to buy a house that 1) has a flat driveway that will accommodate a BB hope (which we don't have); 2) has a back yard that will accommodate a dog (which we also don't have) and 3) a basement big enough to put a pool table in (which we definitely don't have)! I'm waiting for him to demand a tennis court.....
Lara -- I'm so glad you got to see your grandfather last weekend. Nursing home visits are tough....even the nice ones are depressing.

Lara that's good to hear. I'm glad she'll speak up. Staffing is huge problem at all nursing homes currently. Let's face it I wouldn't want to be an aid. Yuck. Oh and the pay is horrible.
Hi Karen.
Eva that is what I thought it was, I just wanted to make sure. I think you should give it a go... I have a feeling that if someone tells you you "can't" that empowers you to prove them wrong. You go!
Claire I hear you on the waiting around for deliveries. I've often thought that would be a good service. I'd go sit in someones house and wait for deliveries for X amount of dollars. Oh you want me to clean it, ok it's X amount more.

Sorry - I had a meeting and got behind. And now I have to run to lunch... but to answer you question, we think that Charles is pretty safe, and I think I have about a 50-50 chance. I am not in a particularly vulnerable position, but this is going to be a huge layoff, so no one is totally safe. And the business we were going to invest in is on hold right now - we needed to save more $$, and the corporate offices of the franchise we were planning to buy seemed like they weren't going to give us the support we really needed to become successful. We plan to revisit the whole thing in a couple of months though, and I haven't given up hope because I still htink it would be a great business!!!
Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone!!! (((klatch!)))

I told my husband that we were invited to a Happy Hour party tonight, but when I told him where it was, he was like, "Cleveland, OHIO??" For some reason that dampened his enthusiasm a bit. :p  I told him that we could give the new car a good test drive and get there in plenty of time! Don't worry; I'll keep working on him, especially if other Klatchers are going to be there too! ;) Guess you should have kept all those extra cookies if you're going to get an invasion of Klatchers, huh? :p
Jackie, your son's requirements are too funny!
Peggy and Claire, I think the professional waiting person (waiting for deliveries and such) would be great. Funnily enough, I just read a Jodi Picoult book where one of the characters had a business like that. She'd stand in line for people, wait for stuff, and so on. I don't think it would be fun to stand in line for people in the middle of winter, but waiting for appliance deliveries wouldn't be too bad!

Kathryn,
Thanks. Maybe we will try to hit that too. I'm not into sitting on the beach anymore so we'd rather go antiquing or something.
It's real fun trying to pack! DH= has saddlebags and a sissybar that we bungee a travel bag to. I don't like the way saddlebags (for my bike) look so we decided on the sissybar thing instead.
Sorry not to respond to everyone. Have a great weekend!!!!!!

DBF would agree with you on that one! Five summers ago he shared a condo on the bay with a friend for the summer, and he swears that one night something - something - bumped into his dock and shook the whole thing. He has no idea what it was, but he hasn't swam in the bay since (and our shore house is right on the bay). He loves the ocean though  (Oh and speaking of which, my youngest sister told me that last week she was in the ocean, looked down, and saw a sting-ray swimming right near her feet! She said she ran out of the ocean shrieking...)
Peggy, hmmm, let's check out the growing list: new bedding, sofa slipcovers (the couch he insisted upon is, to put it mildly, filthy), shower curtain (we're just using a liner now), vacuum, iron/ironing board, and of course, miscellaneous kitchen stuff ;) We've been stocking up some 20% coupons at BB&B.

I'm glad Charles is pretty safe, people keep telling me I am also. Then a guy came in from our Chicago office and said "Oh Cleveland must be big time, you still have a receptionist. We canned ours":( Thanks thanks alot.

Eva, I'm not cool enough to know anything about snowboarding:o so I am trying to picture how your feet would be. I think that would be harder than slalom waterskiing because your body would have to be at kind of a weird angle to your legs, but I would try it. Unless there is a major risk of getting hurt trying it when you can't waterski, I don't see what you have to lose!
Peggy and Natasha, as a SAHM sometimes I feel like a professional "waiter" for friends and neighbors:D But they never expect me to do it or get upset if I can't, so I don't mind helping out. They certainly help us out in lots of other ways. I know there are actually some people here in Atlanta that have that kind of service -- they will run your errands, go wait in line at the DMV, stuff like that. I read an article about them one time, and one of the women who works there said that one client called her to come stay with her toddler when she went into labor with her second child. That seemed like an odd thing to call an errand service for:confused:

Many many times the dog was kenleighbrianopichols!

Definately an odd thing to call a professional waiting service for.

I think a Bischon Friese....(I have NO idea how to spell that!)
Actually, DS is being rather mature about the whole thing. He is very excited about a new house and has been surfing the Internet looking at real estate listings...we've driven around the new community a couple of times and whenever he'd see a for sale sign in the yard, he'd pick up a flyer, etc. He also did "research" on bischons the other night, and he has a pool table manufacturer's Web site bookmarked.
Kathryn, my former boss who served as one of my references just moved from Virginia to eastern Washington state last year when his daughter was in the middle of her junior year! He said he did it deliberately in January instead of having her finish out the year in VA because he wanted her to have some "infrastructure" in place the summer between jr/sr years. I would have KILLED my parents if they had done something like that to me.

Jackie,
My dad has a pool table. He even had a basement put on his new house so he had somewhere to put it. He purchased a lot and got the builder to modify the plans to the house.
He's moved this pool table 3 times. The funny part is that he purchased it with our house. The guy we bought the house from didn't want to move it.
Peggy,
Yep, it was pronounced pickles.
My Cat died as a kitten, Your Cat became Grey Cat (she was grey :D), and His Cat became the "Kizat had a rat", which became Kizzie. :D :D

Ack!! A bichon?!?! I have one. She's 11. You wouldn't know it. Okay, they're sweet and lovable, but they are very high maintenance. Just a warning. I thought it was a great breed because they don't shed and are usually good for people with allergies. However, I find that my miniature poodle (died at 17) was much easier to deal with and was very smart.
And my mom moved the summer before my senior year of HS. I still tell her that there are some things in life I will never forgive her for. It was horrible. I hated it, but I tolerated it because I knew I had to graduate and get out of there. I didn't get to graduate with all my friends at my former school and I don't get invited to those reunions. Don't know if I'd go or not, but I don't even get invited. I never got senior portraits either because they did them over the summer before school had started. Most of the people I graduated with don't even remember me (or care) and I don't speak to one person from that school. Can you tell I'm still a bit bitter??
Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend. I can't keep up with this thread on Fridays anymore! I'm out of here in another hour! I can't wait!!!!!!

Yes....they are kind of poodle-like. They don't shed. :D And they don't get very big. :D :D
Resourceful doesn't even BEGIN to describe him...he's an only child and thinks he has an equal say in things (which he does, most of the time).

Oh, Susan. How awful. It was that kind of thing my former boss wanted to avoid when he made his daughter move in the middle of her junior year. I think DS will manage this a little better...he'll have four years together with these kids. We're only moving two hours away, so he'll get back here for visits occasionally.
We have friends who have a Bichon (thanks, Leigh! ;) ), not a purebred, and he is rather obnoxious, but I just thought that was because he is spoiled. I think I'd rather have a beagle. (Actually, I'd rather remain dog-free, but then again there are some neat aspects to having a dog, too.)

07-25-2003, 01:34 PM
Having dogs is an awesome experience and I think it's especially good for kids to have dogs. We used to also have a lab. He was a great dog, but very large. DH always says he can't wait until we don't have any pets (he does not get along with said Bichon). I just say "yes, dear. Whatever you say, dear". I know that we'd get another dog. My kids at 1 and 2 love animals. The thing is that I want to rescue a dog when we get our next one. There are rescues for just about every breed, too. Might be something to look into. There are many advantages to getting a dog that's a year or two old as opposed to a getting a puppy. Whatever you decide, I wish you much luck and happiness. Dogs are great!

I hope you mean two. :o :p Really, beagles can be quite a handful. We've found they're easier to deal with in multiples (if you can believe it!). The only time we've ever had just one was when Casey was a puppy, and only for a few months before we got another one. I think a single beagle would drive me NUTS. ;)

Thanks for the link leigh. It was the dog I was thinking of. I'd suggest a bloodhound, but um they shed, get pretty big and drool. Rescue agencies are a great source, they sometimes even have puppies. I visit a bloodhound rescue site pretty frequently that just fostered a mom and her 10 pups. I was going to add a picture, because they are so darn cute when they're little, but they must all be adopted the pics are off the site now.
