i'll preface this thread by saying that i neither like or dislike emeril...but, when my DH told me that spouses were invited to a work dinner last night at emeril's delmonico i was very pleased. for one, i'm always up for a good meal (FREE is an added bonus). and two, since i've been having A LOT of alone time lately, it was nice to have some social interaction!

well, the meal did not disappoint!

this was the menu:

appetizer: gulf shrimp remoulade with sweet corn-avacado vinaigrette and fresh hearts of palm. the shrimp were delicious! the sauce was a bit creamy with a nice little spicy zing. the sweet corn etc. was nothing to write home about.

salad: delmonico wedge salad with iceburg lettuce, crispy bacon (we omitted), chopped egg and creamy blue cheese. this was surprisingly good. i didn't have high expectations when i first saw the presentation. it was a decent sized wedge of iceburg (probably the size of my entire hand), covered with the dressing, egg, onions. the blue cheese taste was very mild and the onions and egg complimented it well...

entree: choice of broiled filet mignon with homemade worcestershire, roasted garlic mashed potatoes and maitre d'hotel butter. OR pan fried redfish amandine served with brabant potatoes. this was a very tough decision for me. i rarely eat steak, but i was very tempted to get the filet. but, i opted for the redfish. fortunately DH got the filet, so i was able to try both. well, i must say that i wasn't overly impressed with the redfish. the filet on the other hand was out of this world. it was melt in your mouth tender, probably the best filet i've ever tasted.

dessert: coconut cream pie with chocolate toasted almond ganache. OUT OF THIS WORLD! i'm usually pretty good about just eating 1/2 of a dessert at these kinds of things, but i devoured the whole thing. heavenly.

...now back to reality. ;)

Greta-

Thanks for the review. My whole family are Emeril fanatics. I swear that Emeril is the only reason they want to visit New Orleans

Like you, I am neither like or dislike him. DH and I ate at Nola for lunch when we were in New Orleans for our anniversary and really enjoyed it (his gumbo and desserts are SOOO worth it). But then at a family reunion in Disney World last year we all ate at the Emeril's restaurant at Universal Studios (sorry the name escapes me now). Anyway, it was just TERRIBLE!! The service was bad, the food way too rich and over-the-top, and the atmosphere so tense.

Glad to hear Delmonico's is a delight.

Greta, this is my all time favorite restaurant! My husband and I have been there twice - it's a priority whenever we visit Vegas. I'm not as much an Emeril fan as I used to be, but his restaurant is fabulous!

HI Greta,
That meal sounds fabulous, especiall the dessert. When I was last at Emeril's in Las Vegas, I had the cedar plank steak with his famous homemade Worchestshire sauce. Out of this World! The sauce alone is worth the trip.

Greta, the meal sounds fabulous! Even better being free. Renee, I'm going to Las Vegas in September for a class reunion. Maybe I can get over to Emeril's for dinner one of the nights.

The Delmonico's in Vegas is great - I also had a very memorable meal there about 3 years ago.

I had an amazing meal at Delmonico's when we were down in New Orleans for our wedding 4 years ago. I honestly can't remember anything that I ate expect for dessert, we had the most amazing bananas fosters I've ever eaten. And the fact that all the waiters looked like little mini/younger- Emerils distracted me for awhile (black suits, short black curly hair, very serious). We also tried his signature restaurant for lunch and we were really disappointed, the service was terrible and the food was so-so, maybe it was because it was a lunch shift or new waiter? Emeril's in Orlando, however was really, really good with outstanding service and food. Sounds like from other posting that is some inconsistancy with his restaurants.

(New Orleans restaurant tip: Bella Luna has the most amazing Roasted Corn and Lobster bisque- I still dream about it:D The rest of the food was good too! We had our wedding reception there.)

I had dinner at Delmonico's about a year ago. If you've never been, you may be shocked when you get there. It is quite expensive. My steak was $36 and that did not include a side dish, just the meat. It was huge, and delicous. We each had a glass of wine and shared an appetizer and dessert, and two sides. Our total was over $150.

I didn't feel that the staff was particularly nice. It felt like an uptight restaurant with great food. I don't think I will eat there in the future.

I have also eaten at Emeril's Fish House in LV on a few occasions. I've had mixed results. I must admit that I probably keep going back because I love the bread. They serve you several types of delicious little rolls in a little metal fish container. I'm a sucket for good bread and butter.

I have been to Delmonico's in New Orleans twice and wasn't that impressed. I do enjoy NOLA (been there twice as well). I went to Emeril's here in New Orleans as well, and it was great. Of course, I never paid and when I went to Emeril's, I was with the former executive chef from NOLA who is now running Emeril's Tchoup Chop in Orlando. Dining with one of their chefs - you should have seen the treatment we receieved!!

And for Emeril fans, he is opening restaurants in Atlanta and Miami as well.

I am happy to hear about the bisque at Bella Luna - I am going there this Saturday and will be trying it out. My last experience at Bella Luna was good, so I am looking forward to going there again.
