I have been trying to figure out why an active club doesn't seem to exist in NYC and how to rememdy the situation. Keeping in mind that many NYC apartments are not conducive to large dinner parties and the fact that the typical format requires a great deal of trust (you are allowing strangers in your home), I may have an idea that may alleviate these concerns.

Would anyone be interested in joining a club that met in a central location? It could be a church, a local high-school or evern a small catering hall - any place that has a large kitchen and dining area that can be used. We can decide upon format later, but I thought it would be fun to have a Cooking Light Cooking Class/Supper Club; meaning that we get together and prepare the meal, help each other out with techniques and then we eat the fruits of our labor! If there is interest, I'll begin looking for a location and perhaps we can have our first meeting by the fall.

Please give negative and positive feedback. I'd really like to know if this is a good idea or not. Considering all of the foodies and talented cooks in and around NYC, it seems outrageous that we don't have our own CL Supper Club.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Definitely a great idea Chandra! I will try to come up with some potential venues this weekend. If there is interest, we could even try to get "speakers" or demonstrators to come in too.

Speakers are a great idea! I still have contacts in Food & Beverage (I used to work for The Plaza). Once we see what type of response we get, I can start making some phone calls! Let's cross our fingers!

I'm up in Rockland but could travel to nearby suburbs or to the city. Let me know if you put something together!

someone did post something fairly recently and i think got several positive responses, but nothing has come of it so far.

i am definitely interested, however it's done. i would still be interested but would prefer not to have speakers. to me, it then becomes more like a cooking class. i was part of a club when i lived in queens a few years ago. just 5 of us (then 4), and while it doesn't have to be that small, i think you lose the cozyness and fun of fooling around in the kitchen if you make it a platform for speakers.

just an opinion...as i said, i am defintely interested. feel free to contact me at ebennett@acf.hhs.gov

I'd be interested in this as a concept. We live in Manhattan (downtown/financial district) and are interested in what you find workable. Let me know. Denise
