Do you have a good substitute for bacon grease as seasoning, particularly in green beans? Thank you.

I use a little veggie bouillion (the cubes, I just cut a little piece off) and my mom used beef bouillion sprinkles.

I get a smoked chicken leg or thigh and drop that in. Good flavor without all the fat. Works great on greens too.

A small piece of lean ham would work as well.

I grew up with real Southern cooking full of bacon fat and these are a very decent substitue!

Put an inch of water in a large Dutch oven. Combine 1 pkg of ham flavored concentrate (I use Goya brand) and 1/2 tsp of olive oil, salt and pepper. Add a large package of frozen green beans. Cook uncovered about 30 minutes on med-low until all the liquid is evaporated. Stir occassionally while cooking

I was going to sugest Goya ham flavor concentrate. I use it when I want to enhance a ham flavor on soups.
