I have come acrossed two recipes from this website that call for drained applesauce. What is the reason for it? Can't you just use the amount of applesauce the recipe calls for with out straining it?

I would think it would alter the consistency of whatever the dish is. The reason for draining is to take out the excess liquid.

I read the explanation for the drained applesauce last night in the latest issue...the way you do it is to either put it in a strainer and drain it in a bowl, or they say you can put it on paper towels and let that absorb the liquid. A cheesecloth would work well also.
I'm sure it produces thicker results, more like oil.
