Woo-hoo!
Can it be that this peri-menopausal woman distracted by a major move is the FIRST to start this week's thread?
<patting myself on the back>
Went to the club yesterday and fit in a gonzo strength-training workout followed by a rather wimpy 30-minute bike ride and short pool-side session before spending the afternoon getting ready for a "just the neighbors" wine-and-cheese farewell party last night. It was fun, but tiring, and I didn't sleep too well last night.
After church this morning, we all went to the club and fit in a 30-minute cardio session (me while watching Kathleen Daelemann's "Cooking Thin" program on Food TV) and another hour or so in the pool, followed by a kitchen pitch-and-toss session in prep for the move.
I think I've passed the hill on this move, so to speak. I do not feel nervous about it anymore and I'm not second-guessing myself (today, anyway). I'm confident things will continue to move forward and life will be good.
So, for this week's schedule (I'm a lady of leisure this week, after all!)
Sunday -- 30 mins. elliptical trainer -- done
Monday -- strength training workout (after lunch w/wallycat and a poolside session)
Tuesday -- I'm thinking about some sort of combo workout (elliptical and bike?)
Wednesday -- off (eye check-up, friends dropping in for lunch followed by hair dresser app't)
Thursday -- 30 mins. cardio and strength training
Friday -- off (we close on our new house and I'll be scrubbing cabinets and lining shelves while waiting for a few electronic toy deliveries)
Saturday -- easy cardio followed by pool-side vegetation.
Sunday next week will be hard -- our church is planning a farewell social for us. This will be the hardest group to say goodbye to. But good-byes don't have to be permanent, esp. when you only move two hours away.
So, what's everybody else up to?
Les, I read your post about the gross Saturday. It was gross here for most of last week. EXTREMELY muggy and uncomfortable. HATE that kind of weather, and if our club weren't totally air conditioned, I'd be a complete slug....:o Wouldn't even <THINK> of working out outdoors!:o :p

Jackie - Thanks for starting us this week - it's nice to see someone at the top of the page. {{Answering heide's post from last week and commenting about the heat.}} Don't you know it - working out in the heat right now would be terrible. But friends who are outside these days say that it isn't that bad as long as they've had a chance to build up to the heat (I think they are full of it really). I don't mind going out for "short periods" or having the option to go back inside once the heat gets too bad. I always cringe when I think about people with heat exhaustion - having been there in my past (especially when I wasn't built for heat like I am now). I really believe like Heide that once you have heat exhaustion you are more succeptible to it.
Jackie - Sounds like a good workout week. I don't envy you moving right now and know "fondly" the send-offs from dear friends at church and other places like that (having moved more times than I'd care to remember but something close to 23 or 24). Stick with it and I like you attitude - that you'll only be 2 hours away. I've never had that luxury when I moved, I've always gone at least 10 hours by car (and normally farther).
Workout plan for the week:
Sun - XT with weights (done) but...
Mon - 5 x 800 m intervals at 3:18 pace
Tue - 3 EZ miles
Wed - 35-45 minutes Tempo
Thu - 7 miles pace
Fri - rest!!
Sat - 10 miles (step back)
Boy did I do something to my shoulder today at the gym. I hope that the tightness will release once I really relax - so I may really head off to bed early. If not I'm not sure how things will go for me this week.
Anyway - look forward to hearing about other's plans for the week. Jackie hope you stay (relatively) sane this week as the move gets closer.
Peace,
Les

Hi all! So it's Monday and I'm sitting here in exercise gear but I haven't decided what I'm going to do. Maybe I'll ride the bike in front of the TV. The tv in our gym room got fixed yesterday, which makes it a much more appealing option than it used to be. yay.
So, this is the plan:
Sunday: rest (I did lots of cooking, does that count?)
Monday: bike 30 minutes
Tuesday: golf 9 holes
Wednesday: tennis lesson
Thursday: golf 9 holes
Friday: swim (if it warms up. it's a little chilly here in the mornings these days)
Saturday: golf 18 holes
When I lived in Papua New Guinea I belonged to two different gyms and neither one was air conditioned. It's strange what you can get used to. PNG is very hot and tropical, but if you positioned yourself under the ceiling fan during aerobics class and drank lots of water, it was bearable. Really. The sun was a lot worse, so we didn't play tennis after 10 in the morning, or do much of anything outside. I got heat exhaustion at aqua aerobics once because the sun was so intense, even though we were in the water. In PNG, we tended to do all our exercise at night, even tennis under the lights. It was just so much easier.
Anyway, what's everyone else doing this week?

Hi everyone! We had a very hot, humid and hazy Saturday--one of the first we've had all summer. My parents were visiting from out of town, but we made the most of it. They just came back from a 2 week vacation out west, and they were very much used to the heat.
DBF has sold his condo, and we're frantically trying to find a house we like. No formal exercise yesterday, but did get in a fair amount of walking going from one open house to the other. Haven't found anything we like, yet, but we're hopeful something will turn up.
Here's the rest of my week:
Monday: Body Pump
Tuesday: cardio at the gym (supposed to get hot again)
Wednesday: walk to work with DBF (about 6 miles)
Thursday: Body Pump
Friday: off
Saturday-Sunday: up in the air. Have a friend visiting from out of town and also need to look at more houses. Not sure how things will shape up on the exercise front.
Hope everyone has a great week! :)

Well, week 1 of the marathon training is complete. I'm also back to work this week which will cause me to do a lot more "scheduling" of workout time.
Sun - rest
Mon - ran 3.3 miles
Tues - Sculpt class
Wed - run 3.3 miles
Thur - elliptical and bike
Fri - off
Sat - run 7 miles
Sadly, the pool is closed for another week at the Y.

Bride - Great to see that your first week went well and that you are back in the swing of things. Too bad that you have to "schedule" your workouts more now than in the past. But I'll also tell you that as the miles get longer you'll really need to carve out time to complete the runs or else you'll really feel overwhelmed.
Heide - When you golf (if you keep score) what do you shoot to? It's been such a long time since I played regularly that I normally shoot like I play once a year (novel).
Today's workout was pretty good. The weather wasn't too warm but the winds were blowing pretty hard (makes it tough to run intervals). But I did 5 800m intervals - not as fast as I'd like but pretty consistent regardless (all about 3:20).
Look forward to hearing how everyone's week is shaping up.
Peace,
Les

Les, I always keep score, so I know if I'm improving overall. I'm still pretty much a beginner though. For 9 holes, I usually hit in the mid 50s. Thursday I hit a 52, Saturday I hit a 53. The previous Tuesday I hit a 57. One of these days soon I'll break 50. Last weekend I hit a 104 for 18, which I was pretty pleased with. I'm hitting the ball a long ways now, usually, but my short game still kinda sucks. The greens here are all oiled sand and are all different so it's hard to really learn how to play them. Oh well. Eventually I'll get it.

Les I am amazed at your commitment to training in all types of adversity (injuries, illness, sucky weather....)! I am truly a "fair weather" exerciser....I can usually talk myself into working out if my only obstacle is my mental attitude, but the minute something physical presents itself (bad weather conditions, soreness/stiffness), I take it as a "sign" I should skip the workout. :o
Heide Read what I wrote to Les! :p :p :D
Kristal Good luck with your house-hunting! You and DBF should find something soon. You should be in the cat-bird seat these next few weeks -- lots of sellers want to get out from under something before school starts so you should be able to deal a little, although as I understand the housing market around here, that doesn't happen very often. In our case, the sellers listed their home in April and vacated it in May, and they were waiting all summer for an offer. They over-priced it though, according to our appraiser. They dropped the price by $10,000 the week before we looked at it and we offered them $5,000 less than that, and they accepted it in a heartbeat. So, if you or your real estate agent know the market, don't be afraid to write an offer less than the asking price.
Bride Sorry to hear about the pool -- that sucks. But kudos on your discipline with your training schedule. (See note to Les, above!)
Ok, now I get to blather about my day. :D I'll spare you my rants with AOL, but just say that I accomplished all but one of my move-related tasks for the day before 10:30 this morning. I met wallycat (Ana) from the BB for lunch at Pizzeria Piccola (visit this site: www.pizzeriapiccola.com We each had a #2 pizza -- she with anchovies, me with fennel sausage.) and had a fantastic time. Ana got goose bumps when I recounted the way this move fell into place! And she commiserated with me when I explained I was inheriting an electric range/oven. "The indignity of it all." Her exact words. ;)
After meeting DH and DS at the realtor's office to have some documents notarized, I went to the club, did my strength-training workout and lazed by the pool for an hour. Then chatted with a few neighbors after arriving home -- it is <somewhat> pleasant out today --warm, but not too humid, but you can tell the humidity is building. The rest of the week is going to be ug-leee in my book, but I have plenty of pool-time built into the schedule.
But alas, it is my last week at our health club. :( We are most likely taking out a family membership at the club in Green Bay, but it doesn't have a pool and isn't quite as nice a physical facility as we have here. But on the up side, it's going to be so GREAT for DS, that I won't complain. And pool season here is almost over anyway....
I feel so frivolous --- like all those spoiled young moms at the tennis club I go to! But I know I have wisdom beyond their years, even if I have a waistline/hips to go along with it! :p
G'Night all....off to print mailing labels for my moving announcements.

Heide - Not bad scores. I try to not keep score the first time out for the year (ok most of the time the only time out for the year) and right now those scores look pretty much on par (no pun intended) with what I shoot. I'd love to get back to my scoring average when I was in graduate school in Monterey almost 10 year ago - carried about a 15 handicap. Now my handicap is about 12 (inches - 6 on either side of the ball :D ).
Jackie - Thanks for the complement - I'm not always sure that I'm always that smart to slog through my workouts but I'm both driven and quite obsessed with my running (not always a good thing for me - really). That's why I hang out here - because you all keep me honest and if I catch myself telling people to not worry about a "missed" workout maybe it will sink in (sooner or later). Enjoy the last couple days of the good gym - I know that you'll find the niche in the new gym soon enough. sounds like a fabulous lunch with wallycat too. Glad you enjoyed the time together - that's healthful living if I've ever heard it. Hopefully the move continues well - and the printing came off without a hitch.
Bride - Ditto on the pool from here. Hopefully it gets back in shape soon - I know how much you must look forward to the pool to take a little stress off your ITB. Just be careful.
Peace to all and hope your weeks are going well. Does anyone remember when Jasmine is due back from Newfoundland? I'm interested to hear how she enjoyed the trip and the vacation.
Peace again,
Les

Thanks everyone. I think this is our last week without the pool so
I should be getting back to "normal" soon.
JackieO - I feel your pain on leaving the gym. We moved in Jan. to a house that was just too far from my old gym and I was so sad to leave. In a few days at the new gym (a really nice new YMCA) I was back in the swing of things. Good luck.
Here's a question for any runners. I know some of my runs in the training plan (esp. long runs) call for running a pace 1-2 min slower than race pace. How do you do this? I run the same pace no matter what my mindset is. A long, slow run for distance or a three mile mid-week run. It's like once I start going, I just run the way I always do. Even when I was at ten mile runs last season I could get in the miles but they're all at the same "pace".

So, today should have been the day I broke 50. Alas, I hit a 52, with an 11 on number 1. Otherwise, I played well today. There's a big baobab tree in the middle of the fairway on the first hole and today I hit it twice. Oh well. Les, my parents are very good golfers, both with about 14-15 handicaps. I sort of feel like an absolute beginner with them, but I know I'm doing alright. I really only started playing 6 months ago, so I know I'm improving. Maybe someday I'll be a 14 handicap too.
Jackie, if I let external challenges get in the way of my workouts, I'd never get much done. It's nearly always hot here, I don't have a great air-conditioned gym to go to, the big city pool is kind of dirty, the golf course is 45 minutes away, and the tennis courts are clear across town. I'm absolutely committed to getting this extra weight off this year, and without working out, I couldn't do it. If I plan to do something, I nearly always follow through. I'm kinda weird that way.

That's a tough one. It takes work to slow down that far. I find it difficult to slow down much more than a minute below my race pace (pace is 7:36/7:37 and I run long runs about 8:35-8:40) and in my case it is a conscious effort to go slow.
1. How to do it, just start by thinking about slowing down and forcing yourself to "crawl" along.
a. It is also helpful if you have a running buddy to go out with you - my gauge with Jerry is if we can carry on a good conversation then I'm running at a good pace for the long run. If I can't talk easily then I'm going too fast.
b. This may sound funny but when I'm alone (before I developed my sense of pace) I would either talk or sing aloud to myself - kind of forced me to slow down a little.
2. If you are blessed with a good sense of pace you can try to run a couple laps on the track to "set" the pace in your mind. Luckily I have a great sense of pace so I really don't have a lot of difficulty once I get the pace set. But it took me a couple times around the track to cement the rhythm in my mind.
My coach, who is the area director for Galloway has a lot of difficulty trying to get the runners to slow down as far as they should - for the same reasons that you mentioned. Hopefully one of the options I presented is helpful to you.
Ciao,
Les

Almost a day with no posts? What's up?? Of course I forget that lots of folks are in transition right now - school starting, moving and the like. I guess there are some benefits to being a "working stiff" like I am.
Today's fun was a 2 part run - about 38-39 minutes at lunch and ~32 after work. I couldn't work in my ~50 minute run all at once so I figured I could substitute 2 30+ for a 50. Of course I may be rationalizing.
Hope that everyone continues to be well. Busy week for most - stay healthy and happy.
Peace,
Les

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate the Microsoft Access program?? I HATE it....I must have spent about 35 minutes trying to format the labels correctly -- I KNOW that I was putting the right info in for the standard Avery 8160 labels, checked all the defaults, etc. Finally, it occurred to me that I could adjust the margins and maybe that would work around the problem. So I finally got four pages of labels and when I put them on the envelopes last night, I noticed that I did not print the zip code field. :o  So, I went back to my Christmas card book and hand-wrote the zips in.
I rode the bike for 30 minutes at the gym yesterday and did some water aerobic type moves in the outdoor pool for about another 10. It was a great day to be at the pool (and far preferable to tossing trash into bags in the basement, which is what I did in the a.m.) Went out to dinner with a former colleague of DH's and his wife last night. That was fun. DS is off making a "movie" with his buddies from German class today -- he'll miss those guys, and the new high school doesn't offer German, so he'll be taking French.
Gotta push the vac over the carpet before my lunch guests arrive...

I've never had any luck with ACCESS. Don't like it - there are too many non-proprietary programs out there that do a much better job. I always print my Christmas labels in Print shop - no muss, no fuss.
Hope DS likes French (le francais) - I spent a few years taking that language. But I'll say that he's in for a surprise - French is quite different than German - not as logical. But I bet he'll do okay in French a lot of the words are close to their English counterparts.
For me - Today's run will still have to happen (but after work :( ). I had two conference calls sandwhiched around lunch so no time to go out for my tempo work. Hope the weather holds out - clouds are rolling in.

Les

Boy, I'm really late! It's been a busy week. I breezed through the many posts and it sounds like everyone is doing well and on track with their workouts.
Here's what I've been doing and plan to do:
Sat: I'm putting this in because I ran 6 miles!
Sunday: walked 45 min. in the morning
Monday: ran 6 miles again! Yoga
Tuesday: rest
Wednesday: ran 3 miles (ran the coarse I dislike the most....hill after hill), a few upper body weights and cycle
Thursday: probably nothing....taking the kids to a water park
Friday: cycle, maybe run before that
Saturday: hmmm....run or walk
I've been eating way too much....eating out and went to a wine and jacuzzi party for the gym girls on Sunday. It has to stop!!! I made a salad to bring to the water park tomorrow. I'm sure I'll have to have i.c., but at least I'll have a healthy lunch.
Glad to hear everyone is well!

Another late-comer here:) Our weekend away was great, but now I'm running around trying to get DH and older DS ready for an out-of-state soccer tournament, while also doing the back-to-school thing. Ack! Fortunately, I have scheduled my workouts amid all the errands, haircuts, etc. so I should be fine.
SUN - hike (done)
MON - kickboxing (done)
TUES - light cardio w/strength (done)
WED - off
THURS - same as Tues
FRI - kickboxing
SAT - not sure yet - maybe bike ride with younger DS??
Like Cindi said, it looks like everyone's week is shaping up nicely!

Man, what ever happened to the lazy, hazy days of summer?
Vanished with technology, I guess. (Which was supposed to make our lives easier -- I'll spare you my horror stories about moving -- it was 10 years ago that I made my last move and I can't believe how much more complicated it is these days...)
I have no HL/WS updates today since I took the day off:D and had my hair done, had lunch with girlfriends and saw the eye doc. The best news I had all day is that Penzey's Spices has opened a new store in Appleton, WI, which is only about 30 miles from my new home! So I won't have to do mail order in my new location! I showed off my built-in spice cabinet to a friend today and explained I have a small investment in Penzeys and was truly happy to find out that I won't have to drive two hours to the Brookfield HQ to stock up!!! :p
Les I am sure that DS has chosen to take French over Spanish since when he opted for German over Spanish in middle school two years ago, it was a defiant move. I said Spanish would be infinitely more practical and so he did the total opposite of what I suggested. His choices in the new HS are French or Spanish, and I again mildly suggested Spanish would be the wise choice, so he opted for French. Whatever. It's not like he's going to try to get into Harvard, and having a smattering of two European languages may ultimately be helpful. Besides, I bet there are a lot of GIRLS taking French and he thinks he may score in that area....:o
I hate to tell you, but I'm back to the basement. DH and I vowed today that we will NOT let the basement in our new home turn into the cave that is the basement in the home we live in today....:o

Of course - the biggest two reasons to take a class, because it's the one that mom didn't recommend and girls (how well I remember those reasons to take classes).

And I've hear that story coming from my mouth too. I was on the receiving end of the "this house won't turn into this type of place again." Of course moving every 3-4 years kind of keeps you cleaning out places. But you can guess what the house looks like now that we've been here for 5 years.
Didn't run outside tonight - but I did a 54 minute elliptical. My hip was bugging me so I did the lowest impact workout I could. Hopefully things will mend by tomorrow's 7+ miles at race pace.
Pleasant dreams,
Les

Yep, I am here. Work has been crazy with my manager announcing her leaving and still being plagued with a computer virus, getting the kids settled into school, and yay, buying a new (well new to me) car. I got a good fast 3 mile run in on Monday after Saturday's 12 miler. I think I will have to go today and tomorrow at my club. Which will mean that all of my workouts this week will have been on the treadmill. I will up the incline to 1.5% (I usually set it .5) to keep me honest. Sunday we run the 1/2 marathon course.
Jackie, DD is taking french. I think she has visions of sitting at a cafe on the Champs Elysee and drinking a latte. She would really rather take Italian but very few High Schools offer it.
Sorry I am just dropping in, but I have a ton to do today. Have a great week everyone !

Sometimes I have to wonder if I really practice healthy (healthful) living. I mean I went out today to do my run per the marathon schedule (7 miles at race pace + warm up and cool down). The only issue was the temperature was pretty hot, not quite as hot as last week but still apparent temperature was about 94 or 95. Is that stupid or what?
That said it was a reasonable run - started strong and only faded a little by the end. Understandable considering when I worked out yesterday, this was my 4th run for the week, and it really was pretty hot.
To top it off I'm becoming less enthused by my new scooters (Asics Gel Cumulus V's). Seems that the toe box has stretched out since I've been wearing them. Not too bad but when my feet get wet (like today) or when I run long (over about 8 miles) my feet really start to feel the miles. Looks like I'll be finding a different type of scooters for the marathon in November. To top off the toe box, the soles don't appear to be holding up to my running style. Alas and alack.
Looking forward to tomorrow's workout - REST!
Hope you all are taking care of yourselves... Peace,
Les

well, instead of elliptical/bike today I took a Sculpt class. I promised myself I would do something for my upper body while working on the running and with the pool closed I ran out of excuses. We used two sets of weights and a core board which made things very difficult. I'm sure I"ll feel it tomorrow.
I was just very nicely asked to volunteer at a local 5K this Saturday by the track club in which I am a member so I'll be going there to work registration at 6:30 on Sat before my 7 mile run. I'm also planning on buying a Fuel Belt to wear on long runs. The lake trail where I run makes it hard to set out water or Gatorade and the runs are getting longer.
Laura - good luck on the 1/2 marathon course this weekend
Les - Will I be messed up in any way if my long runs are at the same pace as my short? I am not going for any stellar time or BQ in this marathon - just want to finish between 4 or 5 hours....

Les-that's too bad about your sneakers! I hate to keep buying the same ones, but I've been through so many that didn't work out, that I guess I'll keep buying the same Sauconys. I don't know how you can run in that heat!
Bride-I think that's interesting that you keep the same pace whether it's a race or training. I run so much slower when I'm just running by myself.
Laura&Minky-glad to see I wasn't the only late one this week!
Jackie-I would like to know what happen to lazy summer days! I've been running like a nut lately! And I'm not even moving! My DS takes French. He seems to like it. DH speaks French fluently so that helps. He should be getting straights A's....school hasn't started so I won't get going on that just yet!
I got up early and ran 3 miles this morning. It was difficult for some reason...I never find it easy, but some days are harder than others. Then we were off to the waterpark. It was so crowded. Not my idea of a good time, but the kids enjoyed it.
I was a little up in the air for tomorrow, but it looks like I'll make it to cycle class.
Take care everyone!

I'm not sure how the core board works (I've never personally used one) but I've heard it really gives you a good workout. Hope you aren't feeling it too much tomorrow.
Les - Will I be messed up in any way if my long runs are at the same pace as my short? I am not going for any stellar time or BQ in this marathon - just want to finish between 4 or 5 hours....
One issue that you may develop by running your long runs too fast is you may put excessive strain on your legs/knees/ankles. You should be okay not slowing down until you get out to 10 or more miles but I'd imagine that at some point in time you'll slow down just because. Once you start pushing 16 - 20 miles you'll want to slow down somewhat (without thinking about it). If you are running your long runs "quickly" then I'd just watch your knees. Plus when the miles get longer you'll need to slow down as you start taking in more water (may have to stop a time or two). Even considering my pace (did 7.4 miles today in about 53 minutes) I'll run my long runs at about 8:40 (86 or 87 minutes for a 10 miler) and really don't worry about the time - I'm really just trying to build more stamina (to run for 3+ hours).
Cindi - It's taken quite a few years of running in warm climates like Corpus Christi Texas and Bahrain (in the summer none-the-less) to build up my tolerence to the heat, but there are still days that really soak up my energy. I really try to keep with shoes that I know well. Too bad Asics decided about a year ago to stop making the Gel Cumulus III - probably the best running shoe I've ever worn. Oh well - I'm certainly not brand loyal, I really just look for shoes that I can run in comfortably for a while.
Good to hear from some of the "old hands." Anyone remember when Jasmine is due back from her vacation. I'm intrigued to hear how the trip to Newfoundland went.
Peace to all (we need it),
Les

Jackie, DD is taking french. I think she has visions of sitting at a cafe on the Champs Elysee and drinking a latte. She would really rather take Italian but very few High Schools offer it.
Too funny....one of DS' favorite movies is "Breaking Away" where the Italian ("ini" pejorative) stone cutters are the blue-collar answer to the white-collar rest of the town. DS was into everything Italian a few years ago when he watched the movie for the first time and I am SURE that if any HS in the area offered Italian, he would choose it. But, French & Spanish seem to rule, unless you are in a heavily ethnic area (as Milwaukee is German), you don't have too many options. I'm still convinced he's taking French to meet girls...(did I tell you our neighbors behind us at the new house have an in-ground pool and HS-age daughters? We caught DS looking out the window the other day.....)
Les -- I can't imagine "wearing out" a pair of running shoes in such a short time!!! But then, I don't log anywere near the miles you folks do, and I've all but given up running cuz of my feet/leg issues (God didn't make 47-year-old bodies for racing -- maybe some occasional jogs, but racing ain't in the cards for this old lady any more).
Ok--our old neighbors have invited us in for coffee & doughnuts tomorrow am. (Ugh, but it will be fun to chat.) We head to the club for a good cardio/strength training workout and some pool-time fun before returning home to organize our "piles" for the packers. DH and I hauled massive amounts of junk out of our basement Thursday morning for a curb-side pick up today -- we hadn't even finished when an elderly couple cruised by with a station wagon and started grabbing things! :o It was all gone when we came home today (Oh, did I mention, we closed on the new house and I spent all morning wiping out kitchen & bathroom cabinets & closets and getting everything spiffy for moving in on Wednesday???) and only a $30 charge from the city for picking it all up.
Life is moving on....

My shoes normally last for about 400-500 miles (that's pretty typical for most better running shoes). Although I've been logging lots of miles nothing of that magnitude to really breakdown my shoes. Even at about 30 miles a week my shoes should last at least 3-4 months and I know that it hasn't been that long yet. They really should last longer.

Does this mean that you're pretty much door-to-door for this move? Meaning the movers pick up one from one house and transport to the new house without going into storage. If so that's fantastic. Beleive me when I say that putting junk in storage (in moving boxes) isn't any fun. Of course, us military folks who tend to move without having a place to live before leaving town are the ones that tend to have junk stuck in storage.
Prayers for a dry and peaceful weekend (no romp for me this weekend - attending a prayer and healing conference nearby).
Peace,
Les

Yup! :D They come to pack on Monday, load on Tuesday and deliver on Wednesday. I start my job down here at corporate HQ Monday (two days of orientation) and head to our new home Tuesday night. Will go to my new office on Wednesday morning, but end up back at the house to start the unpacking in the afternoon. It will be a busy Labor Day weekend, and we haven't even thought about school shopping yet!
I'm embarrassed -- I packed up all my spices and a few "loose" groceries to move in my car. My spice cabinet filled two grocery bags! We never keep hard liquor in the house (well, hardly ever), but I have a box of booze bottles and flavored vinegars and oils that are going in my car, too! I'm too cheap to throw out/replace all that kind of stuff....:o
Went to the gym today after having coffee and donuts with the neighbors this morning. I'm hoping to go again tomorrow, but that may very well be my last trip to that club. Things are winding down...DH and I are using his gift certificates to the Rosebud theater tonight to see Spellbound -- the Ingrid Bergman/Gregory Peck film. Can't wait to see it on a large screen!

I wouldn't be embarrased. You'd be surprised (maybe) about all the junk that I've packed across country (not just a couple hours) in my years of moving. Even worse - I packed spices that were so old I couldn't remember when we purchased them. I think we finally threw out some paprika that had been in the house since before LW and I were married in 1983!! YEWW! And I've more than once packed an old bottle or two of booze (including Kirschvasser).
Well everyone - here's a shocker... I was a sluggard today SHOCK!! I slept in until 7 (probably needed to) and I didn't run today (ok - it was a step back day anyway). Actually probably needed the break - legs have been tired lately.
I will say that I did put the day to good use though - I spent most of it learning about a potential future vocation (prayer and healing ministries). Hard to take in a way - I'll be eligible to retire (from the Navy) in just under 2 years (at the roaring age of 42). So I need to really look for something to do with my time after the Navy. As much as I'd love to run and be an exercise coach I think I need to do something that has a little more stability. So today was a busy day learning more about that facet of ministry. I also topped the day off with a nice dinner with LW and my parents (they are in town for the week).
Hope that everyone is having a good weekend and not being the sluggard that Les has been. ;)
Peace,
Les
