I was just reading about supper clubs in the lastest CL issue, and thought it would be fun to take part in one. The closest one I could find in Colorado is still an hour away, so I'm looking for people interested in starting one in the Boulder area. I'm a supper club novice, but love cooking and enjoying good food with fun people. If anyone is interested, I'd love to hear from you!

I was reading the same article last night and thinking the same thing! I work in downtown Boulder and live in southeast Longmont. I'm a beginner/intermediate cook and love testing new recipies. I think a supper club in this area is a great idea. Add me to the list

I'd be interested in a club up this way, too. (I live in Arvada.) I love cooking and having dinner parties but I've never been in a supper club before. It seems like a nice way to spread the effort around and meet interesting new people. Let's do it!

Hi, there is a group formiing a supper club in the NW Denver suburbs if any Boulderites are interested, it is not that far a field for you. Carol who is organizing it is out of town this month, if you are interested send your details to me and I will see she gets them.

Cheers,
Joell, Westminster

Same thought... reading same article last night... let's do it. I also work in Boulder and live in Southwest Longmont. Seems there are a few of us in this area. Should we schedule to meet somewhere to get this thing started?

Looks like interest is growing - I think getting together is a good idea. What works better for everyone - weekday evenings, weekends, . . . ? Any ideas for a good central meeting spot?

Wow! I'm really excited to see so much interest! I think meeting to get things moving would be a great idea. I have a very haphazard and flexible schedule, so its easier for me to work with other people's schedules. Throw out some times and dates that would work for you and we'll see if we can come to a consensus!

Any weeknight except Monday would work for me. My work schedule is flexible and I can usually leave after 5:00 or 5:30. Since I work in downtown Boulder, it would be better for me to meet somewhere in Boulder since traffic is crazy getting out of here between 5:00 and 6:00 PM. If we meet after 6:00, then anywhere is fine. Weekends are fairly open. Once we hear others' schedules, we can pinpoint a time and location.

My schedule is also flexible - Boulder one week night after work sounds great. I can leave work whenever.

Hi Sarah,
If it is not to late - I would like to join in your Boulder Supper Club.
I am currently not available on Monday's or Wednesday's (I go to school downtown Denver those nites.) Thursday's or Friday's or even Saturday nite currently work best for me.
Since I live in Golden, it takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour to get to Boulder depending on what part of town we meet in.

I am very excited and can't wait to meet everyone!!!

While reading COLaura's post, I remembered I have guests in town this weekend for Labor Day (oops). They arrive Thursday, so this weekend is definately out for me. It seems like Tuesday may be an option for a lot of us - can everyone make Tuesday 2nd Sept for our first meeting? Or would Thursday 4th Sept be better?

New Sarah

Tuesday Sept 2 is better for me, since I have guests in town Sept 4-7.

For those looking for a supper club in the Boulder/Golden/Broomfield/Westminster area-we have a group of 8 to 9 people that we've been doing a club with for about 2 years. It might be fun to add some more people to get some new blood in just to keep things interesting. If anyone is interested, please contact me, Lisa Garnett. Hope to hear from you soon. Our next dinner is scheduled for October 4th near Boulder.

Alas, my husband's birthday is Sept. 2, and his parents are with us for the remainder of that week. So, If short notice isn't a problem, I can meet Wed, Thurs, or Fri of this week, or we can investigate the second week of September.

Hi everyone. I just read all the messages about a potential Boulder CL club and would love to get involved if it's not too late! We recently moved to Superior from South Jersey (outside Philadelphia) where I was involved in a CL club for over a year. It was a great way to meet people and enjoy some good food! Please let me know if there's a club up and running. Thanks!

After reading some of the previous posts maybe we should try the 2nd week of Sept. It may be difficult to work around everyones schedule the first week of Sept. (due to the holiday) and I wouldn't want to leave anyone out of the first meeting.

What do you all think of that idea?

Lastly does anyone have a good meeting place?

HeilanKoo

Second week of September sounds good to me. With Labor Day, I think it will be easier for everyone's schedules. How about Tuesday 9th?
How about the coffee shop across from BCH? I think it's called Vic's, they have tables inside and also outside if it's a nice day. Can everyone make 6pm?

In response to Carolyn641 - we're still in planning our first meeting, so it's definately not too late!

Maybe can work out a few things online since we won't be getting together for awhile. What is everybody's vision for this club? Are we talking about doing just us or do we want to include spouses? Kids? Does everyone work? Do we want to meet weekdays or weekends? At our homes? How often are we interested in meeting?

I am pretty open to just about anything except that I do have a family that I need to work around a little. For example, if it sounds like people want to meet in Boulder soon after work I don't think I could swing that. But if that's what everybody wants to do I can find another group.

I suppose my ideal would be meeting one night a month, 7:30 or 8:00ish, wherever. I don't really have a preference on whether we do couples or singles or both. Or a monthly brunch kind of thing with families would be good.

So far the second week of September looks good for me, so I'll pencil in Tuesday the 9th until we confirm. Vics is close to work for me. Is it too far north for the Superior/Westminster people? I'm excited to see so much interest!

Hi,
Sept 9th would work with me as well.
I think we may want to try to meet at 7ish. Just so everyone has plenty of time to get up to Boulder.
I am unfamilar with the location selected. I will need an address or directions. Since I will be driving up from Golden, is there easy parking (parking lot)?

Ideas to think about per Jodio's response:

Monthly sounds good to me.

I work and go to school.

I would prefer to meet on the weekends (Fri - Sat - Sun) b/c till I get to Boulder and back home - it can make for a long day. I was also trying to think if coming home from work, cooking something, and getting up to Boulder by 7 would be something I could manage, and I would hate to have the group waiting for me.

Meeting locations - I would like to meet in south or central Boulder.

Dinner locations - I am open to either meeting at each others houses or going out or even switching it up.

***Looks like it is all coming to/g - I can't wait to meet to you all!!

Hi everyone,
I like Jodio's idea about posting thought/visions online b/4 we meet.
I like the idea of meeting once a month, pref. on Sat or Sun, since it could be difficult to bring food/ingredients to work during the week, as well as get out of work on time.
I'm open to either couples or "just the girls". I'm newly single and am waiting for new furniture to arrive, so it could be a while b/4 I have many places to sit, although we could eat picnic style on the living room floor! I live in a townhome, so my kitchen isn't huge, but large enough for 3 people to be preparing dishes simultaneously, so perhaps some things could be prepared ahead of time and others prepared at home.
Carolyn641- I'd love to hear your thoughts, since you've had experience with being in a club.

Sept. 9 works fine for me. Any time after 5:30 would be best. Getting together on a monthly basis sounds good, and I think including significant others would be just fine. Fridays and Saturdays work best for me as far as regular get-togethers. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hi everyone. Here's my experience with a CL supper club: The supper club I was in in NJ before we moved here, had six of us (all women but we wouldn't have excluded men) which was a good number since anymore than that makes it difficult to accomodate at a table. We used our first meeting to go over what our thoughts/expectations were and met at a restaurant with someone holding, what else, a CL magazine so we'd recognize each other. We set monthly dates way in advance on a weekend, and did not include spouses or significant others for no special reason. The biggest challenge was getting people to actually commit to the date we had set since several times people cancelled at the last minute when "something suddenly came up". It was very discouraging to the host when only 2-3 people showed up. The host was responsible for the main course, and everyone else signed up to bring something, always a CL recipe but not necessarily from a current issue. We communicated through group e-mails. We also did "theme" dinners i.e. Mexican, etc which was fun. We had a nice holiday cookie exchange/,gift exchange and even went to a summer wine festival where we packed CL hors'doevers and drank wine.
Anyway, hope to see everyone next week.

Hi! If it's not too late I'd be interested in meeting up with the Boulder group. I work in Boulder and live just east of Longmont. This sounds like a great way to meet new people and try new things. I work until 5 or 6pm on most weekdays so anytime on a weekend or late on a weekday works for me. Let me know if there is still room - Thanks!

Hi KirstenT:
It's definitely not too late to join! We're still working on selecting a time and place for our first meeting. So far several have indicated that September 9 after work is a good date, and we're working on selecting a site, possibly Vic's coffee in north Boulder. Hope you can join us!

Sounds great! Sept 9 after 5pm at Vic's or another Boulder location works for me. I'll be out of town until Tuesday night but I'll check this thread for an update as soon as I get back. Have a great weekend!

Hi folks!
I live in Westminster and have been part of the the Denver Supper Club for almost a year now. However, most of my friends (and fellow foodies) live in the Boulder area, so we were planning to start up a Boulder Supper Club. So I went online today to post an invitation, and :p Yipee! It's already under way! However, it looks like there's a lot of folks interested in doing this, and it's true that 8-10 per group is about the max that seems to work. So - my thought is, why don't we split up according to area and/or interests. We could do a "Longmont-North Boulder Club" and a "North Denver-Boulder Club"... Or we could split into "hard-core foodies" and "just like to have fun" clubs. Of course when it comes down to it, time will most likely be the dividing issue - who's available and when!
Thoughts anyone?

Oh and let me know if you'd like info on the Denver Supper Club...

I'm both a foodie (have taken numerous cooking classes at the Cooking school at Table Mesa and B'way in Boulder, subscribe to an embarrassing amount of cooking magazines, have a library's worth of cookbooks, and a gazillion cooking "gadgets" which eventually get used, and LOVE the food network on cable!) and I also just want to have fun and meet new people!
I work in Louisville and live in Lafayette so meeting anywhere in and around Boulder will work fine. Week nights (the earliest I could make any meetings would be around 6pm) or weekends are both ok too. So I'm up for anything!

Glad to see continued interest and new names! How is September 9 after 6 pm looking for everyone for a first meeting? Since we're still trying to figure out how to proceed, maybe an initial meeting to introduce ourselves in person and talk about ideas, experiences with clubs, etc. would get things rolling. Any additional thoughts about a good central meeting spot?

SusiD
09-03-2003, 08:39 AM
The meeting date and time are good for me. Since we're meeting around "dinner" time should we meet somewhere where we can eat too rather than just a coffee shop? I'm flexible though...whatever works for the majority will be fine with me. note: There's an amazing and cheap Italian "dive" called Il Pastaio off of Arapahoe and 30th in Boulder(across from Jamba Juice and next to Mo's Bagels in the Kings Soopers strip.)It's very casual and they have small tables we could sit at....it's generally not very crowded.

New Sarah
09-03-2003, 02:52 PM
I know I'll probably want something to eat, and Il Pastaio sounds good - haven't been there and have wanted to try it. Count me in!
Someone had mentioned the idea of bringing a CL magazine to help identify ourselves. I'll try to remember to bring mine.

SusiD
09-03-2003, 06:57 PM
Just a note: Il Pastaio has great food but the place is on the small side although I think it will work good enough for us. I guess we just need to see if that location is "central" enough for everyone. I up for any other suggestions/locations.

I'm excited about this. I liked Carolyn641's ideas and we can get into different ideas and concepts when we all meet.
Kuvy...will you be there to talk about the Denver Supper club ,etc?
See you all on Tuesday!

Did we establish a for sure time yet?

Do you gals have the exact address for Il Pastaio?

Sounds great! 6:30pm is fine. If Il Pastaio is still ok with everyone I will see you there next Tuesday.
The address is: 3075 Arapahoe (if heading west into Boulder turn right off of Arapahoe right before 30th street when you see the Jamba Juice store....you're driving into the Kings Soopers strip center.
It's right across the parking lot from jamba Juice (on the east side) next to a liquor store and a bagel shop. Plenty of parking of course in the area.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

We had our first meeting tonight and missed some of you, however we did schedule the date of the first supper party for October 25th. I have set up a yahoo groups email list, so if you wish to join the Boulder Supper Club (and were unable to attend the meeting tonight), please email me (vboydston@yahoo.com) and I'll get you on the mailing list. The email group may be the easiest way for us all to keep in contact as an email sent to bouldersupperclub@yahoogroups.com will go to every member (no need to remember multiple email addresses). Kirsten - we can design our own web page too - any interest :) ??

Boulder Group - what happened - our first dinner is supposed to be this weekend. I haven't heard from anyone. (Did I write down the wrong e-mail address?) I am still interested in the group, but have lost track of everyone. I think it would be a little late notice to still have it this weekend.

Get in touch with me if you still want to participate in the supper club.

I will check this board at the end of the weekend.

Laura,
I tried calling you (I left a message on someones voice mail and am not sure it was yours) and sent an email to you as well about the meeting! We must have your wrong email and phone numbers because I remember you said you were moving.
We missed you on Saturday!
My email is: Sdevrient@aol.com.
We all are logged into the yahoo groups email system (Victoria set it up.)
Our next meeting is November 22 at Kirstens.
Please get in touch with us or tell us how to contact you!
