Hey,

I've just secured a year's worth of contract work and need to buy a software package that will help me keep track of my income, deduct taxes, pension plan etc. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

The best package I feel for small home business owners is QuickBooks or Quicken. Very easy to use and most accountants recommend it too! Hope this helps!

No advice, but I just want to say congratulations on lining up the gig! That's great news. Is it a good project?

Thanks Suzanne, I plan on going to Business Depot over the weekend and picking something up. I'll keep those recommendations in mind.

Canice, thanks hun! It sounds good. The position gives me a lot of responsibility which I was ready for (time to move up the ladder so to speak), will likely turn fulltime and see me running me own small department. I'm very excited. While I'll still be designing to some extent, I'll more likely be directing outside vendors. I'll know more details tomorrow as I'm meeting with management to finalize everything etc.

You wouldn't believe it but I've been trying to get work forever and two jobs come in at the same time, plus a headhunter!!!! Why does it always happen that way? Who'd of thought I'd be turning positions down huh?

I have used QuickBooks and I love it. I have never used Quicken, but it is made by the same company that produces QuickBooks. If you are doing simple income and expense tracking, then I would suggest Quicken because it is a cheaper software program. But if you have more complicated transactions (i.e. payroll), then I might look into QuickBooks.

This website (http://www.quicken.com/quickensw/sidexside/) compares the Quicken software side by side.

Oh yes!!!!!! :p :D When we party, we party. We're planning another one for October as we can't wait another year (we do it every summer).

Cinnamon, I just need a simple program so I'll check out Quicken. Thanks.
