Hello. I just moved to the Chicago area about 3 months ago and would love to join or start a supper club.
I'm single and in my mid-20's, but I'm interested in joining diverse groups.
Thanks
Nicole

We already have a full supper club group here in Chicago, but I know there are others out there who are trying to get one started.

Might I suggest being a bit more specific about which area of Chicago you live in? I know there is a group in the Naperville-ish area looking to get a group started, there is another one in the Far Northwest (Gurnee-ish) and there are several in the city itself that have been trying to get enough people together. But without knowing where you live, you may not get too many responses. Good luck!!

Grace suggested I was more specific about where I live. So, to clarify I live in the Hyde Park area right by the Univ. of Chicago.

My husband and I live in the Hyde Park area and would possibly be interested in joining a supper club. We are in our mid-twenties, but would like a diverse group of people.

Hi,

I'm also a chicagoan in my mid-20's and I'm interested in meeting some new people in Chicago through a supper club. I actually live on the north side of the city (by Wrigleyville), but wouldn't mind making the trek down to Hyde Park if the food and company were worth it! (and of course, I'd also be more than happy to host those who are willing to shlep up here as well!).

It sounds like there may be the beginnings of a group here...

Hi,

I'm also interested in joining a supper club. I'm in my mid-20s as well, and I live in the south suburbs. (I don't know if that's too far for anyone, but I'm willing to travel a little.) Hope to chat with everyone soon. :)

Well, if everyone is still interested in making this happen, I think it'd be great to set up a time when we can all meet to discuss how we'd like to do this and some dates and menus and stuff. Would you guys want to do this in a chat on line or should we all meet up for coffee in person? I'm generally available lateish at night on weeknights if we're going to talk on line (aka 10:00pm or later) or else I'd be happy to meet up on a Saturday morning or afternoon (say the 13th or the 20th?)

Let me know what you guys would like to do! I think that 6-8 people would be an ideal number of people, so pehaps we could round up a few more members in the next couple of weeks (either through this site or through other people that we all know).

Can't wait to hear back!

I live in the West Loop but will be spending time down in Hyde Park as soon as the school year starts. Am in my mid-20s and would like to join the club.

Did any of you start your club? My husband and I just moved to Chicago (we live in the Bucktown/Wicker Park area) and are interested to learn more.

Thanks! Lori

It sounds like we have quite a few people interested in starting a club. In response to the post by chicagoandi, should we get together sometime - either online or in person? I could meet online later on most evenings - say after eight o'clock or so. If we were to meet in person, I'm available later most Saturday afternoons. What would everyone like to do?

Hope to hear from you soon! :)

If there is room for one or two more, I and maybe my husband might be interested. I too, like one of the earlier people live in the in the Bucktown area. Someone suggested meeting on the 20th - that isn't good, but still am interested.

Hi,
I'm married, in my early 30's, and live in Lincoln Square. I would be very interested in joining a local Chicago Supper club as well. Please let me know when you plan to meet.
Thanks

mmdawson suggested 5pm - I think that would be great.
So, at the moment it seems that the 21st at Borders in Hyde Park at 5 pm is the plan.
How about we all start to RSVP.

The address is:
1539 E 53rd Street
(It is at the corner of 53rd and Lake Park if that helps)
The phone number is 773-752-8663

Well, I could do Sun. the 21st, but I would vote to meet a little later, say 8 or 8:30, since I have to work in the far north suburbs until about 6pm that evening.

I think the Borders is only open to 9pm on Sunday so maybe we should move the meeting to Sat the 20th because I saw that people mentioned that day as well. Whatever works best for everyone.

hmmmmm, any room for another supper club seeker???
I posted a long time ago about joining a club, but it seemed like all the groups were filled.
Unfortuantely :(, I will have visitors in town that weekend, but if I miss it would I still be able to join?? :) I understand if it is too full though....

Anyways, I am in my upper 20's as well as my husband. We just recently got married in July and have lived in Chicago for 2 years. We live in Logan Square. Anyways, hope to hear from you all.

Thanks,
Michelle

Sat. the 20th works for me. What time??

I suggest that anyone interested comes to the meeting, and if we have too many people we split into two groups. If you are interested but can't be there, just let others know before the meeting.

Saturday will work for me. Please just indicate a time.

May I suggest that all those interested email NSPT with name and email separately so she can start a list of those interested (in case someone cannot attend). NSPT, I can be a contact point as well I just figured you started the thread and it made sense to appoint you director :) Once everyone meets on Saturday, the results of the meeting can be emailed to everyone on a distribution list rather than a bulletin board, dates can be arranged, groups can be split up by geography if needed, and supper clubs can start!

Can't wait to meet some new cooks!!

Lori B.

P.S. NSPT - count me in for Saturday. My email is lmalymeik@yahoo.com THANKS

Sounds good to me.
We will plan on meeting Sat the 20th then as it seems to work better for most people.
The meeting place will be at Borders in Hyde Park
Address is: 1539 E 53rd Street which is at the corner of Lake Park and 53rd.
Time: I'm available all day so if someone else wants to suggest a time that would be good.

In the meantime if everyone wants to send me their email address and contact information if you will be attending that will be great.

My email is: nspinos@yahoo.com

Hi all,

I am also interested in joining a supper club, but from prior experience know that when people live far away, it usually doesn't work out. So I'm wondering if anyone is interested in a North Side supper club. I live in Lakeview and I'm in my early 30ies. I love cooking and meeting new friends. Let me know if you're interested.

You can e-mail me directly at viktorijat@yahoo.com

OK, 3:00 on the 20th. You could bring a copy of CL so that it will be easier to identify each other.

I could make it on Saturday the 20th by about 3:30 or 4:00. I have a class that lasts until about 2:45 that day - would it be okay if I wasn't there right at 3:00? Just wondering...

I could definitely join up with a North Side group as Viktoriajat suggested, anyone else interested in branching off?

I don't think that would be a problem at all. If you want I can also give you my cell phone number just so you can make sure we are still gathering when you get out of class. In case you don't make the meeting you can always email your information and I'll make sure you are included.

I would be interested in talking with those from the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area about starting a club. Do you want to set up a time that we can talk online about our ideas, timing, etc.?

leslie884
09-11-2003, 09:40 AM
I would also prefer a group in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area (it would just be more convenient), and I would also prefer a group with at least one other married couple (so my husband don’t feel left out). It seems like there are two options:
1. We could all meet in Hyde Park on the 20th. My guess is that we’ll have enough people to divide into 2 groups.
2. We can set up another meeting time for people who want to do a north side group.

Let me know what ya’ll think,
Leslie

I can't make the meeting in Hyde Park on the 20th so I say let's have an alternative meeting time for the north side group. However, if that doesn't work out for everyone else I can always just catch up after the Hyde Park meeting.

Leslie884- I'm not married but am engaged and my fiance will be joining us. I hope that will suffice.

For the same reason that you want your husbands to be comfortable attending the supper club, I don't want to feel like I am in the wrong place b/c I am single. It might be fun if you or your husbands know any single guys that are interested in cooking to bring them along. Otherwise, if this is a real concern, maybe those of you who are married/engaged, should start your own club. I was trying to start a club in the Lincoln Park area that would be a fun way to try new recipes regardless of marital status.

I'm fine with a north side club, but would kind of vote to keep all of us meeting on Sat. the 20th so we can really figure out what would be best for everyone! Once we get together, perhaps it will be a little clearer how we should split up -- be it by geography, marital status, food tastes, or whatever! Is 3:00 still the plan, or have we moved it a little later?

I'll second the vote for everyone meeting on the 20th at 3pm. I think that it will be simpler to sort out then.
If you are ONLY interested in a north side group you should still come to the meeting and if you can’t come tell Nicole (nspinos@yahoo.com) who has volunteered (been appointed) organizer. (By the way… thanks Nicole.)

jules1993, I’m so sorry to make you feel not welcome. I shouldn't have said anything about marital status... I would like a diverse group. It is hard to get a sense in this forum who everyone is and what their expectations are, but I think that it will come together once we finally meet. I just had an image of my poor husband being the only male or non-cook there or not being invited, and I don't think that would be as much fun for him. But, we can work that out later. Anyway, please come to the meeting, and don't worry.

Well, I'm glad that everyone still thinks we should meet. I'm beginning to think I'm the only one who lives in the south part of the city. And, for those of you who are single - you're not the only one.
So, I look forward to seeing everyone next week and please feel free to email with questions or with your info including what day of the week/time works best for you for meetings at my email address.

Just caught up with the plans to meet this past Saturday, obviously I should have checked this board sooner? Can someone let me know the results of the meeting and if there is a North Side group that has room for another member? I live in Lakeview.

Hi there. I just recently discovered this website and magazine. I live in Lakeview area as well and would love become a part of the North Side group (for convenience purposes). From what I can tell, a few of you met on the 20th, but I am not sure if you made any decisions about the North Side group. I'd appreciate any information on this, and if for some reason there are already too many members in the North Side group, I'd love to hear from anyone else that is on the North Side that would be interested in putting a group together. I live in Roscoe Village to be more specific.

Thanks!

We got two full groups from the meeting on the 20th, but there seems to be some people interested in starting another group. You could try emailing viktorijat@yahoo.com and see if she is still trying to start another group. You could also try contacting some of the people who said that they could not come to the meeting on the 20th.
Good Luck.

Thanks leslie884 for your reply. How many people are in each of your groups? I am just curious so I have an idea of how many people it takes to "fill" a group.

Ok then. Since there are two full groups set up, is there anyone that didn't make it to the meeting on the 20th that would like to start a group?

Thanks.

I am in Oak Park so I'm not sure who I'm closest to, but I'm interested in joining a Chicago area Supper Club and don't mind a little driving. I'm single and in my early 30's. I'd be interested in joining a new group or one of the existing ones if there is room.

Thanks,

I'm also interested in joining up with those of you who've shown up since the 20th or could not make it. I live in the Lincoln Square area (North side). I'm single, in my mid-30s, can enjoy meals ranging from vegan to meat & potatoes and love good company (couples & singles of any age), wine and music with my meals!

Right now it seems that there are a few of us - should we keep checking in over the next several days to pick up some more and then try to meet up and plan?

I'm in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview area, early 20's and single. I wasn't able to meet up on the 20th, as I'm new to the forum and got the message late. :-(

I'd love to join in on the Northside group or get together with others from the northside.

I guess I'm a bit late checking the forum, but I noticed a number of people have gotten together and started a new Supper Club in the city (Hyde Park to Lincoln Square). I live in North Center/Lakeview and would be interested in joining if there is still room available, otherwise, if there is interest in starting one on the north side of the city, that would work too.

I look forward to hearing from you!

I too am looking to join or start a supper club. I live in the South Loop area, but work in Schaumburg. North is on my way home.
Any eveing but Tuesdays, or week-end days/early evenings work well.
