We are going to have my friend's 12 year old son with us Friday and Saturday night. I'm taking him to the CNE on Saturday. Could any of the parents out there recommend good movies to take him to? We don't have a television, so he's going to feel like a fish out of water without one. Thanks.

I haven't seen Johnny English yet, but they're advertising it as suitable for the whole family. It looks like it has some pre-adolescent humor in it without being too childish.
There isn't much out for that age group right now. They feel like they're too old for kid movies, but they're not mature enough for some of the PG-13 movies.

I wonder if he'd like Freaky Friday??? He might thinks its too young, but its worth asking him about it:)

What about Spy Kids 3-D (if it is still out). Also they have re-released Bend it like Beckham, it is about two girl soccer players who emulate the English soccer player. My DD (14) saw it and loved it, I don't really think it is geared just to girls.
I've seen Spy Kids 3-D Game Over and Freaky Friday with my boys (7 & 10). Spy Kids spends much of the movie with the main characters trapped inside a video game, so that might tell you soomething about how it would appeal to him.
We went with another family to Freaky Friday, and we all loved it. It seems to have a pretty universal appeal. Haven't seen Johnny English.

I looked at what was playing in our area and have decided there are no movies suitable for 12 year olds. The ones he wants to see, you wouldn't let him; the ones of which you would approve, he'll turn his nose up at (even if they are terrific).
Danged if you do; danged if you don't . . .

We took our 11 year old to see Seabiscuit - he enjoyed it. Also, we all enjoyed Finding Nemo - even our older one.
Maybe you can go to play minature golf???:D

I'm not sure what is in theaters now-- I second the suggestionsa above. 11 yr old DD and 13 yr. old DS loved Johnny English -- I thought it was fun too. I use the Movie Mom reviews, now on Yahoo to check what's appropriate. The ratings just don't give you enough info. Some PG 13s are fine, and some PGs are terrible!

Have you seen _Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl_? It rocks, Johnny Depp is fabulous as Captain Jack and looks pretty good in eyeliner. It has lots of swashbucling action and a touch of romance that shouldn't gross out the kids.
