Hi! I'm hoping JeAnne and others who are following or have done BFL will help me out. DH and I are starting a BFL challenge together today. We want to make some smoothies in the mornings when we come back from the gym, but I need some guidance. I found a few places where people mentioned just mixing protein powder, water/skim milk, and frozen fruit. But can anyone tell me what proportions you used and how large of a serving you make? DH is going to be the one making these while I get ready for work, so I want as close to an actual "recipe" as I can get. :)

Also, I bought some of the powder packets of Myoplex Lite. Do you think that those have too much carb in them to mix with fruit and skim milk to make a smoothie?

Laura - check on the myo lite to see what the carb count is...if it's around 25-30, I would say that is enough for you without adding fruit...your hub count get away with the extra calories/carbs. If you are using it post workout, you could add the extra carb (ie fruit) ..otherwise I wouldn't.

My favorite protein powder thus far is made by biotest and it's called Grow. I've tried some myoplex, all of the designer whey flavors, precision protein. Grow is the best. They have a low carb version and a regular in vanilla and milk chocolate.

For smoothies, I usually do one scoop of PP, one fruit (or one cup if it's berries) plus about 3/4 cup of water with ice...I tend to like it on the thicker side. Your hub may want slightly higher portions and again you can get away with a double carb post workout.

i'll usually do one scoop of protein powder, a small carton of low fat yogurt and a banana. That may be more carb than you need, but I like the consistency. You can also use cottage cheese for more protein (usually about a cup).

Thanks for the feedback. JeAnne, do you get the Grow at GNC? These smoothies will be past workout, so maybe I won't stress too much about having a higher carb count. For the restof the day I tend to lean toward maore protein than carb anyway, so I'll probably be fine.

Not to be too anal, but how much is in a "scoop" of protein powder? My carton of protein powder didn't come with a scoop!

I think a scoop is three tablespoons :D Not anal at all...I save scoops in case a container shows up without one!

Grow should be available at GNC though the prices are outrageous. I do most of my supplemental (glutamine/p powder/acidophilus/udo's oil blend) ordering online at www.netrition.com It's a lot cheaper that way..even paying for shipping.
