Can we get this whole gremlin issue fixed? It's getting really out of hand.

Not that I have any experience in this ... but maybe it's a problem with a clock? Could the replies that show up before the previous posts be related to the error messages I've been getting about the "30 second limit" when it's clearly been longer than 30 seconds? Just a thought, anyway.

It seems like it has to do with the (individual) PC clocks - and the time of submission. For example, if my clock says 4:27pm maybe in the post it picks up my PC clock time? Because I'll see people who end up posting before me, and there time might be something like 4:25pm.

Okay, as I read this it seems like a stupid idea, but that's what it seems like to me. :o

Shirley - I think if that was the case, we would always have had a bigger problem with gremlins. It has gotten markedly worse lately.

I agree. It's annoying, and I hope someone checks in to see if there's a good fix.

You're right, Bethany. Even as I was posting I thought it didn't make much sense.

Hmmm ... I wonder if this has to do with servers? I would guess that CL would have to use more than 1 server for their site. If there are different times on the servers and I replied (through one server) and someone else replied later (but on a server that had an earlier time then the one I came through) maybe it would post the "earlier" (albeit 2nd post) before mine.

Does that make sense at all? I remember JenniferCL mentioning they were upgrading their system, maybe they are upgrading their servers as well, and just don't have them all synchronized.

Bumping up this thread... and Jennifer, in case you're confused to what we mean by 'gremlins', it's when you reply to a post/thread and your reply shows up before the original post the thread. It makes it really difficult to follow a linear conversation, and I agree, it's getting worse.

Jennifer?

Hey guys,
I was out all last week. Can you give me some example threads of where this is happening?
Thanks!
Jennifer

Hi all,

I asked around and it may be the cause of not having your time zone set correctly.

Does the problem seem to happen consistently to some users and not others?

For example, if I had my time zone set to Eastern when I'm on Central time, it may cause my posting to occur out of order.

If you go to the User CP, under "edit options" there is an option for Time offset. So, for those of you that make posts and they occur out of order, you may want to check this setting under their control panel and to set it to the appropriate timezone.

We can at least try....

This happens to me frequently, so I just went to check if my time zone is correct. And it is... There must be another explanation.

Jennifer - I don't know of any users it's not happening to.

Bump.

Any word, Jennifer?

Yes. I was told that the time on the four servers in which the bulletin board uses, all had different times set.

Similar to watches, sooner or later they get off sync.

They reset all the servers to reflect the same exact time. Hopefully, this was the problem.

Let me know if the Gremlins still exist.

Jennifer,

I just wanted to mention that a moment ago I posted on the Good Food Board. My message indicates it was posted at 11:34 am. However, at the moment the newly-posted message popped up, the line underneath read:

All times are GMT -8 hours. The time now is 11:31 AM.

---
Edited to add that when THIS post popped up, the time differential was only 1 minute-- this time, the time on my post is 1 minute behind the time on the bottom of the page (I suppose it's possible it posted just as the minute changed.)
