I shop through overstock (www.overstock.com) and have been absolutely satisfied with the goods and delighted with their customer service. This gem was in my mailbox this morning, and I thought I'd pass it on.
800 tc sheet set, usually 499.99 now $99.99. Yes, I know it isn't peanuts, but if you like luxury--!
Here's the link. If it doesn't work, go to www.overstock.com and do a search. Again, I've been very happy with my purchases - a digital camera ($150 instead of $399), a big Tiffany wisteria table lamp, several cashmere sweaters - and when I ran into a problem with my camera, they took it back and sent another, no questions asked.

I haven't checked out the web site, yet, but I do have a silly question. I too love decadent sheets, but thus far have only bought up to 300 tc (probably because I couldn't afford more). Is 800 tc really really really better? I have this weird idea that maybe high, high thread count isn't actually better, that there's a max for thread count and then the sheet actually starts to feel weird. Does that make sense?
I've bought things through Overstock too and have always been happy with my purchases. I bought a duvet cover recently from them and did some research about thread count. Supposedly once you get beyond 300ct it's all kind of superfluous
and often times just a tricky way in counting threads. Just my 2 cents!

Well, Diana! I should know better by now just to ignore your threads about sales!!! :p I did do some Christmas shopping while there but most of it is for the Master bedroom! Thanks!

A ha! I knew I wasn't losing my mind about the whole thread count semi-scam. Still, the website is worth checking out!
Thanks!

you know, this board is just hell on my credit cards.....
The highest thread count I have is 590, and the ones at about 300 are just as silky, but the 590 are thicker and have a more detailed pattern woven into them. They will probably last longer, but I agree that for the feel and at least average wear, once you get even to about 270-310, they are going to feel great and you should be very happy with them. But $100 is a good price for a set of quality sheets whatever the thread count. I paid a similar price for my 590s from Italy on a closeout. I thought I was splurging and DH wishes I had gotten more.

in my love of bedding. And glad that someone knows more than I do about thread counts. I get the catalog "Linen Source", and in the most recent one it had some very good deals ($99 I think) for high count thread sheet sets. We just moved into a furnished house, furnished with hotel-like linens (ouch!). It's my hope that if I get a job offer this week, I can order the set I saw in the Linen Source catalog as a reward. (In my old house, all the beds were queen, and we've upgraded to a king).
Thanks for all the information!

I see from your info under your name that you live in Hilton Head, furnished house, Hilton Head, Hilton Head... I have numerous sets of king sized sheets we don't use anymore that you are more than welcome to...got a guest room? (not necessary for the sheets though, I really would like to send them to some one that could use them...pm or email me if you have an interest...they are probably 200ct in very light blues, a tan with a oriental bird motif and a white background with a mottled cream, beige, light blue, and maybe peach in somewhat of a floral motif...really not as bad as it writes... ). I ask no compensation for any of these sets and am willing to send a digital picture if necessary! I'd just really like the closet space!
I have never shopped on overstock. Do they allow returns or is it a final sale?

The sale is over now and the sheets are up to their original $109.99.
I went to their website and looked up returns, and here's what they said:
Returns policy/FAQ
What is our return policy?
Most closeout and deep-discount retailers have an 'all sales are final' approach to customer returns. At Overstock.com, we offer you the option of returning items that don't meet your needs. Here is our return policy:
You have up to 20 days after the Overstock ship date to initiate your return. Your items must reach us within 30 days from ship date. Items received after 30 days will not be accepted for return. We will ship late items back to you.
When we receive your items, we will refund your order amount less handling fees and the original shipping charges. At Overstock.com, we charge a $4.95 handling fee on each returned item. We charge a 15% restocking fee (instead of the $4.95 handling fee) on all returned items from the Electronics & Computers department.
To qualify for a refund, ALL items must be returned in their original condition, including the original packaging and containers, documentation, warranty cards, manuals, and all accessories. Do not mark or deface original manufacturer containers in any manner. We will not accept returns if packaging is not in its original condition - we will return such items to you. If you reject that return shipment, Overstock reserves the right to liquidate the inventory and withhold credit. All costs related to return shipping must be paid by the customer.
You may return any product you buy except swimming suits, undergarments, body jewelry, software, media products, gourmet foods, flowers, and factory-sealed sports collectible sets. Due to supplier issues, on occasion we may also prevent returns on other selected products. We note any such restrictions on the product detail page.
I just returned an item (and had it replaced). Excellent service.

Thank you sneezes for the sheet offer!
Yeah, as much as I would love some nice free sheets, I'm going to pass. These sheets would be my little treat, as a reward for someone finally hiring me. (hasn't happened yet, but maybe one day) Along with an early birthday present to myself.
Besides, don't think we have the storage room either. We bought a fully furnished house (had been used for rentals), plus we both had furnished places of our own, which means that we have 3 of almost everything now. This place has tons of extra bedding, as well. I have bedding coming out my ears! (and dishes, and furniture) Out of pure laziness (and some practicality) we elected to just use most of what was already here, and all of our stuff is in storage. I just want to buy something that would be ours (hence the rejection of "someone else's stuff"). I still feel like we're living in someone else's house.
That is a really nice offer, though. I wonder if people sell that kind of stuff on ebay?

Just thought I'd jump in to say that I bought a set of these sheets, and they're on my bed--3 days after the first posting about them. I've never seen a company ship so quickly--and for only $2.50. The sheets don't seem as soft as the 300 TC Egyptian Cotton ones I'm replacing (because they're totally worn out), but it might be that the old ones have just been washed until there's not much left. I read somewhere that Egyptian Cotton was just as important as the thread count, but I don't know.
At any rate, these sheets are beautiful, and I can tell they are of excellent quality. I had never shopped with Overstock before, but am very impressed with what I've seen so far.
