Has anyone tried the curried cauliflower as well as the lamb shanks with lime and cilantro from the "just the guys article"?
Thanks.

I cooked the curried cauliflower last week (halving the recipe). I ate it a couple of times but wasn't that impressed, and threw the rest away.

I should admit that I'm not a cauliflower fan and was hoping not to be able to taste the cauliflower all that much -- but I know I need to eat my veggies. :)

Does anybody else find it just a little strange that the bearded man pictured in the article would cook a feast that time-intensive, even using one "or" the other in the dishes in which a choice was offered? I found the recipe less than easy, especially considering that I had to make the curry powder (and ground up my cardamom pods).

I made the curried cauliflower recipe, but since I didn't have enough cauliflower (even halving the recipe) I added a little broccoli and peeled, diced eggplant. The finished dish lacked enough flavor and liquid, so I added more yogurt (about 1/2 cup), 1/2 cup more diced tomato, some more curry powder (not the mild one), some ground red pepper and salt. I let that simmer another 10 minutes or so and had it the next day for lunch. MUCH better.

The curried beef with toasted spices was great as is, and the yogurt condiment was SPECTACULAR (and I usually can't stand raw onion!)

I loved having the curry powder recipes since I love Indian food but can't stand bottled curry powder - too much of something I don't like in it.

I have developed a real interest in Indian food lately and this was a nice introduction!

I was going to make the Curried Cauliflower and Warm Spiced Lentils last weekend, but we ended up going out for Indian food instead....probably a mistake since it was soooo delicious! I may attempt the recipes this coming weekend and will post some reviews when I do. Thanks heae0001 for your suggestions regarding the cauliflower recipe. :)

I made (almost) the whole meal for dinner with friends - although I halved all the recipes. The cauliflower was a hit (I cooked it longer than the recipe suggested), the lamb was a hit, the beef curry was a hit and the onion salad condiment was a hit. The lentils and the yogurt didn't go over as well. It was a lot of fun to cook, though. The kitchen smelled wonderful!

glad someone enjoyed it! I was getting concerned since I'm planning on making both this weekend. Thanks for the tips ;)

I finally got around to making some of the Indian recipes from the September issue! We had the Warm Spiced Lentils and the Curried Cauliflower along with a rice dish which I'll post on another thread. I kind of screwed up the lentil recipe: they cooked much faster than the recommended 2 hours, so some of them burned on the bottom of the pan. I scraped up the top lentils and combined them with a little less yogurt and tomato puree than called for. I also added some extra chicken broth since they seemed dried out. They still turned out very well! Not as good as lentils from an Indian restaurant, but something I would try again. Especially since I messed it up.

The big winner for me was the Curried Cauliflower! As I was chopping up my sad-looking, grainy, January tomato, I realized this wouldn't work in the recipe. So I decided to use 3-4 TBS of tomato puree instead of the tomato. I also cooked the cauliflower a little longer than suggested (maybe 4 minutes or so). Added a little chopped cilantro at the end and it turned out great! Very similar to what you would get in a restaurant. This one will definitely be repeated.

All in all a very good meal!
