View Full Version : Laura B. Wick - re: heart cookies
Hi Laura -
I saw your post on the Valentine's Day thread about the heart cookies. Do you use a sugar cookie recipe for the 4 x 4 cookies that you ship? And how do you ship them to ensure they don't break?
I'd like to do this for my brother who is living across the country, away from friends and family.
Thanks!

Im not Laura, but I used to ship cookies to a friend in the navy. I would ship them in popcorn (popped, of course). It is cushiny and helps keep them fresh.

Dear KimK
I've made several different types of cookies, including sugar cookies. My favorite is one with coffee. I use the Brown Bag Cookie Art ceramic molds--they make about 10 different kinds of heart molds. The molds come with great recipes.
If you don't have any heart molds, but have a heart cookie cutter, you could try this, which I've done for my daughter's class parties (because the molded cookies, while beautiful, are very time consuming to make). Make a batch of toll house chocolate chip cookies (always on the back of the Nestle Chocolate Chip bag), using the bar cookie version in the 9 X 13 pan. Then simply cut heart shapes with your cookie cutter. Cut every other cookie upside down to get a lot more yield out of the pan. The bottom point of a heart fits up into the rounded part of two hearts side by side. (hope that makes sense!)
After I gift wrap the cookies, I put them in a priority mail box, provided by the Post Office at no charge. I use dry cleaning plastic as a packaging material. We recycle it all year. Just wrap one or two around the cookie(s), then as many more as you need to loosely fill the box. You could also use plastic bubble wrapping or the little white styrofoam pellets if you have any around the house.
Hope you have a great St. Valentine's Day--I'm sure your brother will, because his sister really cares about him!

Thanks for all the info. I really appreciate it.
Laura, you are very kind! I'm sure my brother WILL like the cookies - if only because he doesn't get home baked goodies very often!
