Hi Terri. I was reading brunch posts and saw that you recommended crab cakes. I thought that was a terrific idea! However, I do not care for them so I need a bit of help. You mentioned sauces to go with them...what kind of sauces would I be looking for? TIA :)

I'm bumping this up in hopes that someone who eats crab cakes will give me some suggestions. :D

The chefs at my work always reccomend a mayo type thing called aioli which is basically a garlic parsley mayo. That's the most basic form of it and traditionally, there isn't even eggs in it. I think BA or Food and Wine did a thing on it this summer...

I'm not Terri, but love crab cakes! They can be eaten plain with just a squeeze of lemon juice, or you can use regular tartar sauce. Depending on the kind of crab cake, there are other sauces I've had that are great too. The Thai crab cakes CL once did have a Cilantro Peanut sauce, and CL's Lemongrass Crab Cakes had a FABULOUS mango relish to go with them. Pappadeaux Restaurant (DH's favorite) serves their crab cakes with a tropical relish too. I also saw a CL recipe for Mexicali crab cakes - it called for either regular cocktail sauce or salsa as a dipping sauce.

Maybe some others will have more ideas.

Our favorite sauce is a light mayo with a little cayenne in it. This is how it was served at our local (now closed) Chuck Muer's Seafood Tavern...so good! (I doubt their mayo was light, but we've made this sauce light at home and enjoyed it.)

I'm not Terry, either, but I agree that some kind of aoili would be great. I made one with light mayo and fresh basil a couple of weeks ago that went SUPER with crab cakes. I got the recipe from Epicurious.

i usually eat my crab cakes plain or make up an aioli.

however, i have found that i do not care for trader joe's brand of crab cakes. i do like stacey's crab cakes or whole foods brand, but they are rather expensive- $3-$5 each.

Sorry! I have not been on in while. This whole hurricane thing is messing with my schedule. I don't remember what I was referring to in terms of sauces, but all the suggestions you got here are great. DH is a traditionalist so it's either plain crab cakes or some good tartar sauce in our house. Those mini crab cakes Trader Joe's makes are yummy!
