TAMI, I have been missing you. Im sorry to hear your year isnt starting out so well. As for the breakfast sandwiches, I have had my share of them since school started...:(
On an up note, I LOST ANOTHER POUND!!! After LOTS of time maintaining, IM finally down to 139.....goodbye forever to the #140:). I have now officially lost 23 lbs:D:D:D
The funny thing is this: I had a good lunch planned for yesterday...life got in the way and I waited too long to eat and craved french fries with queso and an ice cold beer....so we went out for lunch. Dinner was back to what I should eat and I exercised for an hour yesterday, and today Im down 1 lb.
Isnt the body funny????
Anyone have a plan for the week??? I am starting a serious exercise plan this week while keeping the eating the same (minus the fries and beer:D)

After an encouraging last couple of weeks, I'm almost psyched for the week to begin. I am definitely more in control of what I eat Monday-Friday's. This weekend, I had the obstacles of TWO birthday parties plus I finally took my mom out for her Mother's Day present. :D I told her I'd take her to a teahouse not far from where she lives. VERY VERY nice. Now, do we want to talk about the items that were served that did NOT include white flour or sugar? Ok. I think we're done. <sigh> That's ok, so far, I've been in a good bit of control. One tea and one birthday party out of the way. Second party tonight at my house for my son. I just finished making his birthday cake.
Tomorrow...back to crustless quiche for breakfast, yummy salad for lunch, and need to figure out what to have for dinner. That's the task for this morning. Simplicity! That's the goal. I do all my cooking on Sunday's since I'm in class 3 nights a week. No other time to do anything other than homework.
Gym activities...whenever I can get there! I made it only twice this week. Oh well...that was actually two times more than I honestly thought would work out. We'll see what this week brings.
PS...I tried on about 5 pairs of pants this morning that haven't been past my thighs in several years. :D I can actually wear several of them and they look awesome! I'm enjoying the heck out of this and need to stay very focused!

I was doing great, Kim...had the best start of school ever, loved the kids, etc. Then about a week and a half ago, our district surplussed 2 teaching positions from our school. That caused massive reshuffling. We had been teaching one section of 8th graders and 4 of 7th. With the changes, we lost 30 7th graders (one section) and got 40 8th graders. That meant our 4 sections of 7th had to be reshuffled to fit them into 3, so all of those classes changed. We got 8 new 8th graders in our existing 8th, plus a whole new class of 35. Every seat is filled. These kids already had one sub who just showed videos and gave them candy for the first month of school. Plus, half of them are ELL students, and have not been in effectively managed classrooms. The behavior is a nightmare. Our Assistant Principal is having to follow them from class to class (they travel together all day--the 2 8th grades couldn't be integrated). I, of course, have them 7th hour--the end of the day.
Add to that having to redo all my seating charts (with higher numbers in all classes), get grades to my former 7th's new teachers, figure out how to get this existing group caught up (they're WAY behind, redo ALL my gradebooks to reflect the new class composition, learn each class's "new personality" with the new mix of kids...I could sit down and cry. All that work you do the first month of school is trashed, and I have to do it all again. It really is like starting over.
Okay, pity party's over. ;) Just thought I'd whine a little so you guys could feel really sorry for me. :D (I am down 3 of those 5 pounds I put back on, though! Yippee!)

Tami:
How horrible for you and the kids. You have my sympathy and admiration, being the daughter of a teacher and having a 6th and 9th grader of my own...I know it isn't easy
I am sooo close to my goal, but I really need to figure out how to add carbs back in and not go crazy. I know I can't eat apples, they really make me crave sweets. Other fruits seem to be okay though.
Is it just me or is any one else having a problem with bruising? When I was younger, I used to always bruise for no reason, that stopped awhile ago (eating more carbs, more fruits, etc). I'm back to getting black and blue marks for no reason! Any ideas?
Everybody have a great week....

Tami, so sorry this is happening. We had an issue like this a few years back and it ended up with a k/1 split class8 weeks into school with a teacher who left after Christmas and the one they hired to replace her fresh out of college:eek:  !!! Luckily she was a wonder is still around with us!

Hi guys. I am a constant poster (or a least a lurker)on The Me I Want to Be thread but am struggling to lose the last 10-15 pounds. I lost the first 25-30 on WW and although I have not been as diligent in what I eat, journaling and exercising, I also know that I eat way too many carbs. Can I join in and get some ideas/support?
Somewhere in my pile of books, I have the Atkins guide. I did it for exactly one week about three years ago....I think maybe South Beach should be the way I should go but not sure.
How do I know where to start besides don't eat potatoes at every meal :)?
TIA

Patti:
Atkins and SBD are similiar but different. You might want to check out the article from Prevention magazine (on-line at www.prevention.com) for SBD and www.Atkinscenter.com for Atkins guidelines. The first two weeks of both of them really limit carbs (Atkins to 20 net grams a day) and you then increase from there.
I personally am doing Atkins, if you have questions, holler....

Tyra, you're right--this particular thread is one where I can hang out. Assuming, of course, it's not too hypocritical to ignore all the others and only come out to play with you guys! :D
On a happy note, I've lost all the weight I gained back plus another pound. One more pound and I will have passed 3 "decade marks" (numbers ending in zero). It still counts even if I was only one pound over the first one, right? Tomorrow will be long--it's "Meet the Teacher" night, so I'll have a 14-hour+ day. Oh, how I'd LOVE to take Wednesday off! But I won't, because I'm a dedicated professional. :p Regardless, though, I can always run to Rubio's for a grilled chicken salad in between.
So, if you guys don't care, I'll just hang out here, instead of spreading my cheerful self around. ;)

Tami:
Good for you on the weight loss! I never looked at it that way, but I guess I lost 5 decades (started at 170, now 137ish). Funny, I was just realizing that even though I'm going to be 44 I have lived in 6 decades....strange thought
Please hang out with us year...we promise to be nice, unless specifically asked not to be :D

It looks like the number of participants on this low carb thread have dipped into a very low number. It would have been sad to have lost one of us. Tami, I'm glad you're staying! :D
The more the merrier!!

I don't often come to this board (forget it's here, actually) but here I am.
I've lost about 25 pounds in the past year through WW with a higher protein focus. But lately, in the past month or so, I realized that I was having episodes of low blood sugar between meals.
If I ate, say, a 'normal' meal and then went 4 1/2 hours, I'd get a jittery, queasy feeling (classic Low Blood Sugar) that was only helped if I ate something, at which point I would get ravenously hungry.
I have to get a Glucose Tolerance Test, but I did talk to my doctor, who recommended I do a modified Atkins diet, since the higher protein tended to be helpful to people with a tendency toward hypoglycemia (pre-diabetic condition, and adult onset diabetes runs in my family).
So.... For the past couple weeks I've upped the protein intake, usually through dairy protein (cottage cheese packs quite a wallop) or chicken. It seems to be helping the LBS episodes.
Gram for gram, protein intake has been equalling carb intake, and I've been cutting down on sugar and fat. The weight loss is continuing.
So, hi, all! I'll be checking this thread.

Diana:
You can stick your head in anytime you want:) Congratulations on the weight loss so far. I'm sorry that you are having the low blood sugar problems. I know from some other support groups I'm on that Atkins does seem to help with diabetes....hopefully you won't have diabetes and can control everything through diet and exercise alone.
I also saw your post about your loss of inches...YEAH!

Hmmm... and excuse rather than a complaint... but when I saw the subject line as "week of 7/21" I assumed that someone had dredged up an old thread and didn't bother to read it until it KEPT popping up. Sorry!
After a record weight loss (4 pounds) last week, I'm holding my own this week -- my body's way of adjusting to its changes, I guess. I'm not complaining... this is the first time in a year I've been able to put on nylons without a lot of grunting, groaning, and whining. I'll take my "little wins" where I can get them!
Haven't been as diligent about the gym this week as last week -- prepping for a new window installation and a trip to the theater last night have kept me busy in the last couple of evenings (but the theater was a long uphill walk -- that's got to count for something. :) ).
Looking forward to fall fruits -- apples, pears & figs!
Well I'm rambling and lunch is getting cold. Hope the week's going well for the rest of you!

I weighed today!! I've lost at least another pound. I had to use a different scale today so it could be slightly more than a pound.
Whatever...YES!!! :D :D :D This works for me!!
I'm not sure if I've mentioned it. I've been trying for at least 3 years to lose some weight. NOTHING could convince a single ounce to please depart from my body. I started WW in the spring, lost about 7 pounds, quit WW and gained back about 4 pounds. Started SBD. I didn't have one of those tremendous weight loses during those first 2 weeks, but I was very happy with the little bit I lost. After a few weeks of just watching what I'm eating (or not eating...especially those "white" foods), I think my body has finally decided it willingly let go of a little poundage.
I never actually set a goal since I was happy with every ounce lost...but if I could lost 6 more pounds, I'll be at a weight I haven't seen in at least 6 or 7 years.
:D

Ranks right up there with "My you have lost a LOT of weight, haven't you?" and my new favorite "You aren't going to lose any more weight?" Mind you I've lost over 30 pounds in the 6 months....:D
Melanie:
Congratulations! I think if you are closer to goal the weight comes off slower anyways. There just isn't that much to loose...

Tyra..I would dearly love to hear that question, "gee...how much more weight are you going to lose! Don't lose too much!"
:D
After five years after the birth of my son, I lost a BUNCH of weight. I must have weighed between 115 and 125. I was definitely skinny. I did get that question quite often back then. I thought I looked great. When I see the pictures from that timeframe, they were right. I WAS too skinny.
Oh well...I made up for it in the 15 years since that time. :o I doubt I'll ever hear it again.

mind you I really only hear that question from my mom :) But I still love it. I have had other people tell me that I look fine (when I mention that I'm still thinking of another 5 - 10 pounds). If I would exercise and firm up, I would probably be happier...but since I have NEVER exercised and DON'T want to exercise...I don't think this is going to happen
I finally finished my dried apples...and I'm NOT going to buy anymore. They became very addictive in the last week and the scale proved I didn't need them.

Oh that is a good question too. I don't think I'll have to worry about losing too much weight or having an eating disorder. I love food too much for that!
Okay I have to confess......
(Disclaimer if you are craving chocolate or sugar do not read the rest of this post :p )
I had to make a goodie for class and instead of bringing broccoli and dip or something healthy I fell off the low carb wagon and made the Outragous Oreo Brownines from the food board. I tried one the night I baked them and had one the next night at class. I am so bad, but they were so good! I had to give away the rest of the leftover oreos and the pan of brownies or I would have snarfed them all. My little chocolate and sugar affair did not show up on the scale and I am back on the SBD bandwagon again.
Okay I feel better now that I have that out in the open! LOL
