I read your post and visited the web site. This sounds like the perfect solution to keeping all those magazines or buying the books--my bookshelf is overrun!

One question, though--is the $6.98 charge for each monthly update? That could get pretty expensive. Can they be purchased for a whole year's recipes?

Although you didn't ask me...I only bought the '97 full year pac because of the price. I can't justify the magazine subscription and the downloading for each month. The '97 Pac is all the recipes from '97 for like $28. So I'm waiting for '98 to be offered at the same deal. Now I just type in the recipes I really use into the software.

Laura,

Yes, the $6.98 is for each month's cookpac, but they are the complete set of recipes for each month, and it works with EITHER the MasterCook software OR the CookWare software. So the point is, if you choose MasterCook (and pay for it), and you wanted each month's recipes, you'd have to buy the cookpacs anyway. If you just want the software from cookn.com, you only have to buy one cookpac, you're not obligated to buy any more after that. You could also only buy those months that seem really outstanding to you. They do offer the whole 1997 set of recipes, like sneezles said, and when I spoke to them on the phone they told me they were working on additional years. I am personally interested in the years 91 through 94, since I have been buying the cookpacs since 1995 religiously (and they used to cost $12.98 each!!) yet, I have magazines back to 1991. Hope that helps and answers your questions. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'm happy to try and help if I can.

One other thing, that the software does that the books cannot, is search everything simply. Instead of looking up say, "asparagus" in 10 or more different cookbooks, looking for something to make, or a specific recipe you once made, with the software, you type in "asparagus", and EVERYTHING with asparagus comes up! You can also search by category. Sure makes coming up with dinner on a busy night really, really fast and simple.

mine still cost 12.98! Am I getting ripped off or what? I have the professional where I get all the recipes but still!

No, they charge you $12.98 because you probably have the diskettes sent to you in the mail. If you download them from the cookn.com website yourself, they only cost $6.98!! Oh, and they don't differentiate between the "professional" and the "regular" anymore. The downloads are for every single recipe like the "Professional". I save the downloads to a diskette instead of to my hard drive so that if my computer ever crashes, I have everything on diskette, and I just put them in the box with the other diskettes that used to come in the mail.
