I decided to try Low Fat deli meats for the first time today. To my delight they were delicious. I bought low fat turkey and smoked ham. I also tried Pepperidge Farm Light Style 7 grain bread. That was really great. I haven't tried the lower fat cheeses yet. I've heard they are terrible! Any comments????

I've been buying the 2% milk low-fat cheese (singles and shredded) and I can't taste that much of a difference. The brands I've tried are Kraft and Borden. Give it a try!

Cracker Barrel (Kraft) makes a reduced-fat cheddar that is pretty good. However, as with all reduced-fat cheeses I've tried, it just doesn't melt nicely. I prefer the CB over the bags of pre-shredded.

Lorraine Cheese (a low fat swiss found in the deli case with the meats) is fantastic! Very mild, and you'd never know it was low fat. You can always ask for a taste at the deli counter too - they are always happy to cut you a little piece of anything you'd like to try first! (So I say, try a few!!)

I also agree about the 2% kraft, but our FAVORITE is Jarlsburg light. It is a tasty swiss type of cheese with 3.5 g. fat per 1 ounce slice. It adds great flavor to sandwiches!

Who makes Jarlsburg Light, kwormann?
We use the Jarlsberg lite brand Tine, of Norway. It is very good.

We buy Veggie Slices soy cheese. I've only tried the American tho'. It tastes the same as any other American cheese and I make toasted cheese sandwiches with it frequently. It melts in a sandwich nicely.

Although I can understand being hesitant to try them, I highly recommend the Veggie Slices soy cheese as well. IMO, it tastes almost exactly like regular cheese and melts really well. I like their provolone and pepper jack the best--I sneak them into snadwiches for my SO and he never even notices!

I've tried lots of lowfat cheeses. Alpine Lace makes a great 50% less fat swiss. They also have a 50% less fat Monterey Jack and 50% less fat feta. I agree about the Kraft 2%, the taste really isn't different. The one I really like is by Land O' Lakes. It's called Chedderella and it is so good! It tastes like mild cheddar but it is very lowfat.

I vote for the less is more. Use a reg. sharp cheddar but use less. You get unmessedwith cheese(for lack of better term) and great flavor. What have they done to make stuff 50%less? that's what I want to know. To me, natural is better. Just use less.
