After a couple of years of my (economic) Austerity Program, I'm loosening up! I now have a not-so-great job, but it's paying my bills and carrying me through for now. Carrying me through enough that I decided to take Mom's sweet gift of a little birthday cash and be totally irresponsible with it! Go crazy! Do something I would never ordinarily do! No, I didn't buy lotto tickets or a smart new handbag or take a girlfriend to a fancy lunch: I took myself on a lovely early autumn stroll out to one of my favorite independent book shops and bought...bought...well... several new cookbooks! Here goes:
Passionate Vegetarian by Crescent Dragonwagon
The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook by Ina Garten
Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
30 Minute Meals2 by Rachael Ray
Gear For Your Kitchen by Alton Brown
A Sweet Quartet : Sugar, Almonds, Eggs, and Butter: A Baker's Tour, Including 33 Recipes by Fran Gage
The Tante Marie's Cooking School Cookbook by Mary Risley
I know that's completely crazy, but MAN did I have a good time there! These are all books I've wanted, and I'm looking forward to just reading them in the wintery days to come...let the cooking come when it comes!
As an aside, most of you have probably never heard of the Tante Marie's book, but it's LOVELY - a cross between "how to cook" and "great classic and contemporary recipes" - laid out in a simple and classic format. Tante Marie's is a delightful little cooking school here in SF, and I've taken some wonderful classes there. My birthday present from DBF was a gift certifcate to that school, so I'm really looking forward to some cozy days there over the next few months.
Anyhow, just had to share my excitement about my new cookbook booty with someone who might appreciate the fun of that shopping excursion!!
