This article is from Time and is about how food techs engineer foods to taste a certain way. The origin of the McGriddle is explained. :)

Interesting, if a little scary.

That is so interesting, ellamay--I'm always surprised at the precision used to make consumers happy. (squid flavored pringles?? ) Thanks for posting.

Very interesting - thanks for posting!
I sent my DH the blurb on the different Pringles flavors they develop for different markets. He has always complained that the one thing lacking in the U.S. is an abundance of potato chip flavors! He grew up with about 40 flavors of chips, and weird ones too! Beef flavored, Dill pickle (though I've now seen that), etc.
Wow! I'm amazed at how much thought and science goes into making... junk food.

My boyfriend has his PhD in food engineering, and has commented that one of the reasons he cooks "real" food (as opposed to packaged) is that he knows "the kind of twisted logic that goes into what they put in those foods".
