I'm looking for some ladies who would like to get together to form a supper club in the Kansas City area. I think it would be a blast trying out some of the Cooking Light dishes and then feasting with new found friends.

Hi! We have a supper club in the KC area. All of us are in the Overland Park/Olathe/Leawood area. We currently have 5 couples in our group. I don't know if you are looking for a couples group, or just the ladies getting together. We are not exclusive to couples though..it just happened that way. We do a 'no kids' supper club. Let me know if you are interested and I will PM you with more info.

Abbey :)

Abbey, I'm so glad to hear your supper club is still going strong! I'll bet you have a great time. Now if we could just put together a singles cooking club....

Deanna and Abbey,
We are new to KC area and would be interested in either a couples group or just a ladies' group. We live in Prairie Village and are kidless... for now! Love to hear from you both.

Hi Deanna! Sorry I didn't respond earlier...I just saw your post today. Yes, our club is doing well...you should come to one of our dinners some time!...half the time someone's other 1/2 can't make it, so there is a 'single' in our group now and again. :) I'm surprised we haven't run into each other at Dillon's by now...unless we have and just didn't know it. :)

kcd71 and tfjudy,

I don't think we can add more couples into our group at this point, our last dinner had 12 people, and more than that gets hard to coordinate schedules, etc. (I was wondering if I'd have enough plates and silverware too!) :)
I would be happy to help you organize one of your own though. Or if either, or both of you wanted to meet me for coffee, I can tell you how we got started, and show you a list of our 'rules' that we agreed on. Feel free to post here, or PM me to let me know.

Hello - I live in Lenexa and would LOVE to join a cooking club in the area. Please let me know if any of you have room for a new member! My husband and I are kidless (for now) and are always trying new recipes! No picky eaters here!

My husband and I live in Overland Park - we don't have children, either. We'd love to join a supper club! I love to cook and we both love to entertain. It would be great to get something together. If you're underway, please let me know what I can do to help set something up.

Thanks!

Pammela, I tried to PM this to you, but it said my message was too long, so I am just going to post it. These are the 'rules' that we came up with on our first meeting. Hope they help! Abbey :)

Supper club notes
(from our first meeting 2/8/02)

 We will try to meet once a month for a supper, realizing that some months will be harder than others (holidays), and perhaps we will do something simpler (dessert party, or meet at a restaurant, etc.), or not at all on those months if it’s too difficult for everyone.
 We understand that some of us will have to miss a supper from time to time, for various reasons, and that’s ok. We will only make you feel mildly guilty at the next supper. 
 We will shoot for meeting the first Saturday of every month, at 5:30 PM. If the first Saturday is bad for most that month, then we will shoot for the 2nd Saturday. Also, we will try to schedule our suppers a few months in advance.
 We have decided on adult only suppers, however, if the host has children and wishes to have them join, then everyone seemed fine with that.
 Whoever is hosting the supper will chose the theme of the meal, and then email everyone in the group with her theme and entrée choice. The rest of the group will email her back (within a couple of days please) with requests/their choices for what they would like to bring to the dinner.
 The host will be responsible for providing some beverages, however, I think we also agreed that if each couple brings a bottle of wine or a 6 pack of beer to each dinner, then there will be plenty to drink without the host having the expense of purchasing so much alcohol.
 We agree that emails regarding the supper club dinners will be cc’d to everyone in the group. This way everyone knows what is going on, and who is bringing what, without the host having to relay it over and over.
 We agree that if there are any smokers in the group, they will smoke outside.
 We have some members with pet allergies. They are willing to take medication before they come to supper where the host has pets. They ask that the host send out a reminder about having a pet in that supper’s email, so they can remember to take their meds before coming.
 Everyone is in favor of serving alcohol at the suppers.
 We agreed that it would be easier to bring most of the food to the supper, already prepared. We also agreed that perhaps certain foods would be best prepared at the host’s house, and we will let the host know that we will need to do so, ahead of time. We also thought it would be fun to cook an entire meal together, perhaps once a year.
 We are not sticking to the Cooking Light magazine recipes exclusively, nor are we sticking to ‘light’ recipes only. Anything goes. We thought it would be fun to do an entire Cooking Light menu sometime, though.
 Generally, the menu items will be grouped together as follows:
Entrée and beverages
Appetizers
Salad and bread
Side(s)
Dessert(s)
 Don’t forget to bring your Tupperware to the supper, in the event that there are leftovers to be taken home.
 Please bring copies of the recipe(s) that you made.
 Please bring your calendar to the supper, so that we can check dates and schedule the next supper.

Well, it seems that we might have enough interest to get a second club going, as Abbey's supper club is full right now. I posted earlier, but we are in Olathe, have one child and of course, love to eat, try new dishes, etc. I don't know how we'd start up, exactly, but maybe those interested could meet and discuss?

Yes, let's try to get a second group together and schedule a meeting. Would a weeknight right after work be a good time to get togther and plan?

Hi Princess Pesto, tfjudy, and kim!
It definitely looks as if we have enough to start a second club.
I would suggest that maybe January would be a good time to have our first meeting, with holidays and all.

Do Saturdays work best for everyone? I am currently not working, so could really get together whenever is convenient to discuss. I think Abbey's ground rules look great. I'm trying to think of a middle place for us to meet, although I am new to the area. What about the Whole Foods at 91st and Metcalf? They have coffee and tables in the corner. Let me know what you think and we can try to meet before Thanksgiving or the first part of December.

Looking forward to meeting you all

Princess Pesto, tfjudy, and kcdee -
Saturdays work well for me. And, Whole Foods would be a great place to meet - I shop there every weekend!

January would be a good time to start - and early December sounds like a good time for our first meeting. How about either December 6th or 13th for a meeting? Any time will work for me - morning would be better.

Let me know what works for you!

Kim, Princess and Kcdee,
A Saturday morning meet at Whole Foods sounds good. Dec. 6th will not work, tho, but how about the 13th?

I may have been confusing... I meant to ask if Saturday would work for the actual dinner club. As far as a "pre-meeting"... any day works for me. If the weekends are bad, we could do it during the week???
Whatever works for everyone else. Having said that, I can do the 13th.

The 13th will work for me, too. Would 10 am work? Let me know if that's too early.

Saturday nights would be great for the actual dinners for me as well!

OK guys, I will send a PM to Princess Pesto but let's go ahead and plan to meet at Whole Foods on Dec 13 at 10:00 am. I'll be the one wimpering at the bakery counter! :p

See you then! Kathleen

I have read about supper clubs in Cooking Light and am excited to hear that a club may be starting up in KC.

Sounds like Kim, Princess, Kathleen, and tfjudy have a good start. Can I crash your meeting on 12/13? Let me know if you are interested in an additional member.

Have a great weekend!

Sure! The more the merrier. I got hold of Princess Pesto and she will be joining us as well.
See you guys on the 13th!

Looking forward to meeting everyone today, but looks like the snow will keep me (and maybe more of us) in. I am still interested-if people didn't make it to Whole Foods, can we reschedule for after the holidays? If folks did meet, please let me know what was decided.
Thanks!

KCMo- We have had 3 dinners so far but you are welcome to join in with us! We are not meeting again until May 1 but are trying to get a "girls' night" sometime in April. This might be a good way to meet half of us anyway and then you can join in in May if you'd like.
Let me know if you are interested and I will keep you posted with details.
Thanks!

I was just reading through this thread and wondered if the existing Supper Club is still in place. If so, would you have room for two more? My family just moved to Olathe, and my hubby and I would be interested in joining an existing club (or even starting a new one if the current groups are filled up). Please let me know! We were in a wonderful club in our previous city and would definitely like to be a part of one here.

Thanks!

Welcome to the area! I too am new to this neck of the woods. We are meeting on June 26th and this time, we are going out to eat. We will be eating at Lidia's, an Italian restaurant downtown (near Union Station I believe). Then we will pick up again with meets at our houses. If you are interested in joining us at Lidia's, please let me know. We'd love to have you!

Hi-

I P'Med a couple of you, but I thought I would post for good measure :) I am not in the area yet but we are about to relocate to the KC area (maybe Olathe, Overland Park, Mission) my husband has started working in Mission already and my children and I will be following him around October. I am involved in a supper club here in Florida that three of us started three years ago, and which has grown to about 8 or 9 women. My husband isn't really into it, but he would gladly come along- however when we get there we will know no one so we will not be able to do a couple thing *and* no children if that makes sense.

I apologize for rambling ;) My husband was just offered the job last Thursday and here it is Monday 4 days later and he has already started his new job- so I am a little stunned, to be honest. I am sad to be leaving my current supper club but I am looking forward to making new friends. I know from experience how rewarding being involved with this kind of club is.

Anyway, I haven't quite figured out how to navigate this board, so if anyone with information about a supper club will e-mail me at addeyr@yahoo.com I would love to hear from you. (Abbey, I got your mail, thanks!)

Take care everyone, hope to "meet" some of you soon!

After reading the September issue, I thought what a great idea! A Supper Club could be tons of fun. Currently, we live in the Roeland Park/Mission area. We are a young couple mid to late 20's. I love to cook and my husband loves to eat and try new foods, so we make a great team. Please let me know if any club has a couple open spots or if anyone is forming a new club.

Hello! My husband and I are relocating to KC from Tampa in mid-December. We were in a supper club in FL, and would love to join a group in KC. Is there room in yours? Or if not, is there enough interest (from others who might read this) in starting another group? We'll be living in S.Plaza/Brookside area. Thanks! Stephanie

Hi Ladies-

I haven't checked this board in a while and see there is a lot of activity about KC. I am a member of another supper club that has been meeting for several years. We meet on the third Sunday evening of each month and rotate between members homes. The host/ess picks a "theme" usually ethnic, but not always and everyone brings a dish (and tupperware.) We have members from all over the Metro area so we often travel. We recently lost few members due to moves and new babies so we have plenty of room for more.

If anyone is interested in joining us, please let me know and I'll get the details of our next event out to you!

Hi catnap70! My husband and I are still looking for a Cooking Club to join. We would like to find one that is primarily couples. Sunday nights work good for us too. Can you give me some more details about your club?

Hi kristinandmarty--

I sent you a PM about our club!

I realized I used the wrong date in my first post--we actually meet on the second Sunday evening of each month--this makes it easy for everyone to plan the date.

We are open to new members, so if anyone else out there is interested--please let me know!

I am currently in the process of moving down to the plaza and would love to either join or start a new club. I see that there are already a lot of grous; however, it seems like they are mostly for couples. I am looking to be in a group for 20's and 30's singles. Anyways, if you know of one, or would like to help start one...let me know!!

I am new to all this so I am not even sure if this will work. I would be very intereste in a Supper Club, either with or without my husband. We live in mid-town. I have always loved to cook and entertain.

carollarson,

I am in a KC supper club that has been meeting for about 4 years.
We try to get together once a month but often have trouble because
everyone has such busy schedules. If you are interested, send me an email at achristifano@kc.rr.com and I will give you some details. Would love to hear from you! Oh and by the way most of us are married and our husbands attend also.

My fiance and I are getting married in October and would love to join a cooking group. We were referred by a friend and thought this would be a good way to try out the Cooking Light recipes and meet some new people.
