Does anyone have any ideas for getting me organized? I have 2 1/2 years of Cooking Light magazines stored away. What I normally do is to display the current issue on my cookbook stand on the kitchen countertop. This reminds me to browse through it several times. When the new issue arrives, I staple an idex card inside the front cover with all the recipes I want to try. Then it gets stored with the past issues. There must be a better way. Any ideas?????

A friend of mine takes the old issues, rips out the recipe section and takes them to a copying place to get them bound by year with a year-end index at the front. Then, she has 1998, 1999, and 2000 in her cupboard. It's less to go through.
you might want to try searching old threads...a few months ago there was a whole 'debate' on this topic, and you might find some of the suggestions useful.

I highly recommend the Mastercook Cooking LIght software. I just got version 6.0 and it contains 3000 cooking light recipes from 92-98 and then some extras, holiday, etc. I have been importing the current ones and then I can shelf the magazine or donate it to someone that doesn't subscribe. Then you just have to go into the software, search an ingredient or recipe and voila...dinner!

sherry,
i just got the cl software for christmas, and i'm just beginning to learn how to use it. when you say you "import" the new recipes, do you mean you type them in or is there another way?
thanks!

crystal -- You can download each month's recipes as Cookpacs from the Cookware website (there a link in the store section of the main CL website). Each month is $6.98. Sherry also recently alerted me to the existance of an MC-CL group in e-groups. Each month, this group divides up the recipes to type in, and posts them.
If you're talking about copying individual recipes from this board, other places on the web, or emails -- for that you would use the Import Assistant feature of MC. I think this has been fully explained in other threads -- just search this board for "import assistant."

BethR and Sherry,
How can we get to this e-group or join?

Mamasue --
I just did a little exploring on the egroups site. This url should get you to the MC-AllCookingLight group: http://www.egroups.com/group/MC-AllCookingLight
I chose not to register. I couldn't find their privacy policy spelled out anywhere and I already get more than enough spam. Also I don't know exactly how the typed-in recipe deal works, but I thought about it and decided that getting my monthly recipes all in one fell swoop is worth the $6.98 to me. If you join and have a good experience with this e-group, please post to let us know.

BethR, I took a look there and did find a no spam statement, but it looks like they share info with advertisers, and I couldn't tell if that was limited to on-site advertising. I too would like to know if anyone has joined. I see joining is free, but do you have to subscribe to each group? You mentioned $6.98, but is that per section, per month, or what?

Hey everyone, The cookpacs are $7 a month....can get pricey. I joined an egroup that types out the recipes, they have a very strict policy about spam. I recommend this great resource. There are several different ones. just do a search at egroups for cooking light, and a variety of them will surface. The one I joined is for 5.0 and 6.0 users only. You have to be willing to post recipes in exchange for getting them. Right now my group posts about 6-8 recipes a month...exporting through Mastercook, then you can import the rest of those that other members posted. Good luck.

Sherry, you think $7 is pricey? I've been paying 12.95 or something ridiculous for years! I've been using the CL software, not MC. I've it it for years and have tons of disks...

Sorry to confuse, Beth. Joining the e-group and typing and collecting their recipes is free. The $6.98 I referred to is the cost of downloading a monthly Cookpac from Cookn.com, which is what I currently do.
I buy photo albums with the plastic inserts for individual pictures. I then cut out or copy recipes and insert them in the album. The plastic protects the recipes and I can quickly page through the album to find what I want. It is easy to add recipes or move them around. I have recipe albums for desserts, main courses, etc.

Thanks for the great info. I joined the MC-CL e-group. I would much rather type in 6-8 recipes monthly than pay $7.00!

Luv2Cook:
I posted this information on the other thread about the cookpacs for you, but in case you didn't see it, the reason you're being charged $12.98 for your cookpacs is because you probably receive the diskettes in the mail still. If you go to www.cookn.com (http://www.cookn.com) every month, you can download the cookpacs to a diskette for $6.98. And it includes ALL the month's recipes, just like what they used to call the "professional" version of the cookpacs (they discontinued having 2 separate versions quite some time ago). So call up and cancel the shipments of the diskettes, and do the downloads yourself (it's faster too - they are usually available on the first of the month, sometimes before the magazine even comes out!).
