Another Garlic Question

I was hoping someone could explain the difference between the "normal" garlic you see in stores, and the "elephant garlic" they sometimes have.

Other than the rather gargantuan size of it, how does it differ?

I've never cooked with it myself because it's quite a bit milder than garlic; elephant garlic is actually closely related to the leek, and I've heard that it's a better substitute for onion than garlic, but I don't know - I'm a garlic lover, so I don't want mild!
