Hi
I've started to organize some dinners for the Ronald McDonald House in Ann Arbor. I've found the volunteers from various places (co-workers, church members, my cooking club, this bulletin board, etc.)
If you are not familar with it, the Ronald McDonald House is a low cost place where families can stay when their child is in the hospital. It's also convenient because it's on the same campus as the hospital. The families do have a place to store groceries and kitchen facilities, but the house tries to have groups come in and prepare meals: After the family has spent the whole day at the hospital, it's nice not to have to come back and prepare a meal.
Anyway, this coming Sunday will be the fifth time I've participated and the third time I've organized. The other group I participated with brought a lot of prepared food (ex: large Stouffer's ravioli, meatballs, etc.) The past few times I've found people who really like to cook and have brought homemade items. The staff and residents have really liked that. It really is enjoyable both to cook with others there and to get to visit with the family members.
The upcoming dates for this fall are: Oct. 12 (this coming Sunday), Nov. 30 and Dec. 28. These are all Sundays. We serve dinner at 6p.m. and need to be there about 5p.m. for last-minute prep and set-up and stay until about 7p.m. for clean up.
It really is enjoyable both to cook with others there and to get to visit with the family members. If you would be interested, please let me know.
(I know this isn't really a supper club, but wanted to post here since I know some people visit here but not any other topic on the board and thought there might be some interest.)
