La Mer skin products?

Has anyone consistently used La Mer products, and are they worth it? I am feeling old (yeah, yeah, I know I am 29, but I feel like my face went 10 years this year), and I have a friend who swears that this stuff is absolutely magic, but the smallest container is $90, and I am not usually drawn in by claims of beauty in a jar.

Any testimonials here? I could use a pick me up,and a fabulous youth renewing cream sounds great right about now.

La Mer
The original Creme de la Mer was launched by Estee Lauder as a miracle product for wrinkles based on research from Max Huber, a NASA scientist. How does space technology relate to wrinkles? Well, it doesn't. Huber at one time suffered severe burns in an accident and then, according to the Max Huber Laboratories, it took 12 years and 6,000 experiments to come up with the cream, "which he made through an arcane and lengthy process." That was over 30 years ago. Of course, given that none of this self-experimentation was ever documented, there is no way to know what Huber was using before or what else could have produced whatever results he was so happy about.

It turns out that Creme de la Mer was, and still is, almost exclusively water, thickening agents, and some algae. But this miracle product wasn't enough, at least not for the Lauder company, which was selling a lot of product and clearly understood that, in the world of skin care, if one product sounds good women will buy other unrelated products that carry the same name. With the new assortment of La Mer products, Estee Lauder has added a new range of hocus-pocus ingredients to the continuing list of concoctions that were never in Huber's original formula; so much for that mythic story having any real credibility.

Creme de la Mer contains seaweed extract, mineral oil, vaseline, glycerin, wax thickening agents, plant oils, vitamins, preservatives, and eucalyptus extract (which in only recommended for use in rinse-off products), and fragrances.

Whew. Anyway, she doesn't recommend them. But I have friends that swear by them as well, I just can't choke up the money.

i've tried the cream (i'm 24 and so sure im getting wrinkles....)
i dont think its worth $90, but you should try it for yourself! because one of my friends loves it. also, you have to aply it a certain way- take a bit, warm it between your fingers, and PAT into skin- rubbing just causes more wrinkles. if you go to nordstroms or saks or any store that carries it, they'll be willing to give you a sample (i know saks does this for sure, but i cant imagine anyone not doing it). one sample lasted me like 2 weeks or so and im sure that you can get more than one sample. also, dont fall for the Z. Bigatti Re-Storation cream either- this one is more expensive than the La Mer and it didnt do much.

I post on some beauty related BB's, and have noticed that the people who seem most consistently happy with Creme de la Mer are those with REALLY dry skin.

If this doesn't describe you, you might be better off giving it a pass.

Pinky, what's your username on MUA? Heehee, I am on there too (same username as here). I always think it's cool when I find someone on more than one of the message boards/sites that I frequent.

I use it as an eye cream only. I got mine from eBay, there are plenty of people on there selling sample sizes and the prices are much better than at the department store. I am 26 and starting to get small wrinkles under my eyes. I have definitely noticed a difference with Creme de la Mer that I did not get from retinol creams.

Jen, I've tried it and didn't like it either. Like you, I'd heard it worked miracles so I finally broke down and bought the smallest jar of the cream to see what all the fuss was about. It's really thick and they sold it to me with a little trowel! As Pinky said, they suggest you warm a little of it up between your hands and it's supposed to become a spreadable consistency. Didn't work for me. I've been using it as a night cream but when that's gone it's back to Clinique. I think it's a great idea though to try and get a sample. That way you could decide for yourself without having to make an investment.

my username is pinkyboo on MUA 1MegMeg- I'll look for you over there, although i dont really post that much there because they post at a crazy fast rate- but i always look around so maybe i'll see you there :D i love it though- i almost never invest in something until ive checked out the reviews over there.
