I have a TV in my kitchen (some of you may think that's insane, but for me it's a necessity - I'm in there so much I like to hear what's going on with the news and whatever cooking show is on - now if I can just get my husband to hook up the dish to that TV, I'd be all set!!!)
Anyway, I digress. I was making pizza last weekend (Sunday?) and flipping the channels I came across a TV show called America's Test Kitchen on PBS. It was hosted by the founder and editor of Cooks Illustrated, Christopher Kimball, and it was a great show!!
I saw reference to this program on the food processor thread, and thought I'd find out if anyone else saw the show, do you know if it's on with any regularity, etc. Usually you have to hunt around for shows on PBS.
The web site is www.americastestkitchen.com (http://www.americastestkitchen.com,) and it's a pretty neat site.
NO THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

SandyM - Got curious...couldn't get your link to work but found out the program is just debuting. The list of stations and dates is available at http://www.cooksillustrated.com/show_document.asp?iDocumentID=4174&iBDC=50088

The link should work now - I inadvertently put a comma behind it, and that made the link bad. I've edited it and it's good now.

I'm disappointed that I did not see it debuting in San Diego. If anyone from S.D. happens to come across the show, could you drop me an e-mail? Thanks!

Did everyone else get the ad for the magazine recently? I think I may suscribe. Any thoughts on the magazine?

I subscribe, and I really like the magazine, even though their recipes aren't light. There are no advertisements, they do product reviews, they have tips and techniques, and the recipes are good. It's not cheap ($26/year), and it only comes out every other month (sound familiar?) but the no advertisement feature is a big winner with me. Just my two cents.

I love Cook's Illustrated. For each recipe the author goes into detail about the process they used to develop it. It's a great way to learn how different techniques and ingredients affect a recipe. I also love the tips and the product testing. I use this magazine more for learning how to cook than for the recipes (because, as stated before, they aren't usually light and there aren't a lot of them). Thinks for letting me know about the show. I have to work that day http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif but I'm going to set my VCR to tape it.

I've gotten CI for years. I love the tips page (if I could only remember half of them) and their reviews. I don't always care for their recipes but some are good. I can usually take any recipe and make it low-fat. I also belong to their website...try it out is my recommendation...
Oh, got a small TV for xmas for the kitch. My mother got me an under-the-counter one, but I don't have enough space for that so I took it back. Still haven't bought one. If we hook it up, we have to get a splitter or something for the dish or else I'll have to watch what is going on in the bedroom..grrrrrrrrrr...so needless to say, no TV yet. I get lonely by myself in there and would like it to keep me company, if I'm not talking on the phone or burning myself!

This TV program was on (again) in the Detroit area at 4:30 pm on Saturday afternoon. I'm hooked! They reviewed soy sauce (La Choy ranked LAST - it's completely SYNTHETIC!!! I'm sorry I don't remember the brands that were recommended); they also reviewed knives (Henkels and Wustoff rated highest, of course); they also showed the best way to cook stir fry (toss out your wok!!!).
Find this TV program on your local PBS station (link is above) - it's so informative IMHO!!!
